Elizabeth
The morning sunlight gently peeked through the curtains of my cozy little apartment, injecting a warmth into the room that was comforting and pleasant. I sat up slowly, feeling the weight of my growing belly, which was becoming increasingly evident. It was a constant reminder of the new life I carried within me. Today was my medical checkup, a moment filled with nervousness, but also a deep emotion at the thought of having the opportunity to see my baby once again.
I arrived at the clinic and registered at the reception desk. The nurse, with a kind smile, led me to an examination room and asked me to lie down on the cot. As I waited for the doctor's arrival, my mind raced with anxious thoughts and speculations. An endless number of possible scenarios began to besiege my mind. Would everything be alright with the baby? Was there a problem I hadn't anticipated? Uncertainty washed over me, as I tried to calm down and patiently wait for the doctor to arrive and dispel all my doubts.
The doctor entered with a broad smile on his face and greeted me cordially. "Good morning, Elizabeth. How are you feeling today?" he asked in a kind and reassuring tone.
"I'm a little nervous, but overall I'm fine," I replied, trying to convey tranquility despite the nerves that gripped me.
"It's absolutely normal to feel that way," the doctor commented, as he carefully organized the ultrasound equipment around him. "We're going to do an exam and make sure everything is okay."
The cold gel he applied to my abdomen gave me a little shiver, but it quickly shifted my attention to the screen. The doctor began to move the transducer skillfully, and suddenly, my heart skipped a beat as I caught a glimpse of my baby. However, there was something unusual this time. There was not just one figure on the screen, but two.
“Elizabeth, I have a wonderful surprise to share with you,” the doctor said, a wide smile illuminating his face. “The results indicate that you are expecting twins.”
“How is that possible, doctor?" I asked. "In the tests they did on me, the results indicated that I was expecting one baby, not two."
"These errors tend to happen frequently," the doctor said.
My heart stopped for a moment, as if time froze around me. “Twins?” I repeated, unable to contain my disbelief.
"That's right," confirmed the doctor with a warm and confident smile. "Two healthy babies. Congratulations!"
Tears began to slide down my cheeks as my eyes fixed on the screen. Disbelief washed over me, and I couldn't believe what I was seeing: two babies. My mind was flooded with a wave of questions and agitated feelings. How was I going to face this new reality? How was I going to be able to take care of two little ones at the same time, all by myself? Uncertainty and responsibility began to weigh on my heart, overwhelming me with the magnitude of what lay ahead.
The doctor patiently provided me with a detailed explanation. He took the time to answer all my questions, assuring me at all times that everything was in order. He also offered me several helpful tips on how to take care of my health and that of the babies during the course of the pregnancy. He also stressed the relevance of attending medical appointments regularly, reminding me that these visits are essential to ensure the well-being of both myself and the little ones I carry in my womb.
I left the office with an intense mix of emotions welling up inside me. On the one hand, I felt a great happiness that filled me with optimism; on the other hand, the uncertainty caused me fear and anxiety. With each step I took on my way home, I tried to assimilate the news I had received, trying to put my thoughts in order, which seemed to be overflowing. It was clear that I would have to modify several of my future plans, which gave me a feeling of overwhelm. However, in the midst of that confusion, I was certain that I was prepared to face this new challenge that was presented in my life.
I was so engrossed in my thoughts that I wasn't paying attention to where I was going, and suddenly I bumped into someone. It was a man I had seen at this clinic before; I guess he has a wife, as he always shows up in elegant suits that reflect an aura of wealth and sophistication.
"I'm so sorry, I'm especially clumsy today," I said, feeling a bit embarrassed by the incident. However, he gave me a kind and understanding smile.
"Don't worry, I was distracted too, so you don't have to apologize," he replied with a warm smile, which made me feel a little more at ease with the situation.
"How many months pregnant are you?" he asked, showing a notable interest in her response.
Somewhat surprised by the sincerity of his question, I replied, "I'm five months along."
“Congratulations!” he exclaimed, a warm smile spreading across his face. "It's sure to be a beautiful baby, especially since the mother is."
I smiled, feeling a little flattered by the compliment I had just received.
"Thank you," I replied with a smile. "Actually, it's two babies. I just found out today."
“Wow, twins! That’s wonderful,” he exclaimed enthusiastically, his eyes shining with excitement. “I’m Daniel, by the way.”
"Nice to meet you, Daniel. My name is Elizabeth,” I replied, shaking his hand firmly with a friendly smile on my face.
“Are you here for your wife or maybe a girlfriend?” I asked curiously.
"Oh, no... I don't have a wife, let alone a girlfriend. Who would want an old man like me?” he replied with a dejected tone.
"Well, I thought so. And anyway, you're not that old," I commented, trying to cheer him up.
"Hahaha, well, thank you. I'm flattered that such a beautiful woman thinks I'm young,” he said, smiling. “But actually, I'm here visiting a friend who is a doctor."
“Oh! Daniel what are you doing here?” asked the doctor, approaching us with an expression of surprise and joy.
“Victor, my friend! I came to say hello to an old friend, don't I have the right to?” Daniel said as he gave the doctor a warm hug.
"Of course you do, you're always welcome," Victor replied with a smile.
“Looks like you've already had a chance to meet Elizabeth."
"Yes, indeed, very beautiful and friendly," he said, staring at me intently, which made me slightly nervous.
“You too Daniel,” I replied, trying to maintain my composure.
"Well, I'll leave you now, I must be on my way," I said. "It was a pleasure meeting you, Daniel. Doctor, I’ll see you next week."
"Alright, take good care, Elizabeth,” replied the doctor. "Remember not to overexert yourself, especially considering your condition."
"Yes, doctor," I replied, smiling.
I was about to leave when suddenly Daniel stopped me. With a mixture of nervousness and determination, he said:
"I'd like to keep in touch with you, would you mind giving me your number?"
I agreed with a smile and replied.
"Of course. Take your phone and write down my number.” I offered him my phone and, as he did so, I smiled, feeling happy for the exchange.
“There you go,” I said at the end. "See you later!" With a smile on our faces, we said goodbye.
