Complicated brother relationship

By the time Adelaide woke up, it was already 4pm. She just rubbed her eyes lightly to get rid of the sleep in her eyes. While she was yawning, an unfamiliar presence entered the ward.

" Addie ! "

" Hmm.....? "

The voice which echoed inside the ward was fairly hoarse yet, gentle and filled will love. That meant presence which entered her room was definitely a man and he might as well be a man who truly cared about the little girl.

When Adelaide's vision was finally clear, the sight of a young man with slightly tanned skin almost surprised her. He had hair as dark as she does and his face and his facial features resembled her a little bit. Even if she was a stupid person, she could recognise at first glance that his man must have blood relations with her,... perhaps denser than she might've figured too.

Yet, there was something strange, this man who fairly resembled her was completely unfamiliar to the previous owner of the body.

No matter how she skimmed through her memories, that fact was undeniable. She truly never seen the man before. It seems that the man is definitely a stranger to the previous owner of her body and he has only come to visit her. Such a conclusion, made her previously unyielding belief shaken. So, she couldn't help but be on guard with a stranger who's intentions are unclear to her.

The man was shocked to see her awoke. Without hesitation, he dropped the bouquet in his hands and ran towards the delicate woman to give her a big warm hug.

"W-who are you ? "

Adelaide's question wasn't answered however, it wasn't completely ignored either. The delicate woman's question made the man hug her even tighter but not even to hurt her or suffocate her. While hugging, Adelaide felt a tinge of humidity on her clothing. It seems that the man was crying silently while hugging her. It felt sort of weird for the little lady. Nonetheless, it was a rather comfortable hug. A hug that was filled with care and nothing else. Welding the overflowing care spread by the man, Adelaide couldn't help to just hug him back.

Even so, the question never left her mind, " Who is this man ? "

After a while, the man finally stopped crying and let her go. He finally had a chance to take a proper look at her facial features.

" Yup, you're definitely my sister, Addie,"thought he.

Unconsciously, a faint smile grew on his face. Adelaide just stood still while watching the actions of the strange man. Even if he was truly a stranger to her, she could certainly feel his care that came from the bottom of his heart. So, she let down her guard and let the man do as he'd like.

" After so long, you're finally awake, Addie."

"En."

" Have you been well ? "

" En."

" Are you over that dum- ... I mean, jerk now ?"

Adelaide stayed quiet for a while to skim through her memories again. There was indeed a man who could be considered a 'jerk' in her memories. In fact, he was one of the last memories left behind by the previous body's owner. He was a very mean person who cheated on the innocent girl and causes her to fall into a state of depression.

Remembering such things, Adelaide became annoyed with the 'her' who was so weak that she was completely vulnerable to such fools. She couldn't help but show an annoyed expression on her face.

" En. He's a cheating bastard. Big bad bastard ! "

The man couldn't help but chuckle at his adorable little sister's comment. After his continuous prayers for 3 whole years, his beloved one final opened her eyes not only to see the world but also to see the truth. If it was this kind of change, perhaps he wouldn't mind having her stay this way for all her lifetime.

" But,... who are you, mister ? "

" Mister ?! What in the -... Hahaha! "

Never in his lifetime could the man imagine that anyone would call him a 'mister', especially his own little sister... even if she hasn't met him before since childbirth. So, he just laughed at his dense beloved lovingly.

" Aid, I'm Aidan, Aidan Mireille. Nice to meet you, little girl."

" Oh, nice to meet you, Mister Aidan. I'm Adelaide, Adelaide Mi- Ehhh ?!"

Aidan just pat the little lady's head while chuckling to himself. He once thought that he'd never be able to see his little sister's face to face. Yet, because of an incident that took 3 years of his beloved one's life, he finally had such a chance. Perhaps, the incident was a blessing in disguise. However, Aidan still wanted to avenge his little sister in her place. He stole at least 30 years worth of that bastard's life by sending him to the Asylum ever since the first day he cheated on his beloved.

" Wait... if your name's Mireille and my name's Mireille. Then,... you're my..."

" Big brother Aidan ! Nice to meet you, lil sis Addie."

"..."

" What a shame though, Adam's not here."

" Adan ? "

"Oh, Adam is your other big brother. He's a little older than me so he had to do all the official work while I do just do some stuff behind the scene. In the end, I'm the only one who can visit you every week while that guy had to like LIVE in his office. Hahaha... serves em' right for teasing me for being born just a few minutes later than him. "

Unbeknownst to Aidan who was laughing happily, trouble was awaiting him just a stone's throw away. While her brother was still busy catching his breath, Adelaide sees an exact copy of Aidan entering the ward. If Aidan hadn't talked about Adam as soon as he started talking, she would've been at least slightly terrified because she might've thought that was his doppelganger. However, since she already knew of Adam's existence, she can't help but feel sorry for her big mouthed big brother.

In an attempt to indirectly warn him, Adelaide asked for confirmation about Adam's looks.

" Big brother, does Big brother Adan have the exact same hairstyle as you ?"

" yeah"

"Does he usually wears a suit too? "

" Yeah, he does. Why? "

Adam just watched the two's conversation while leaning against the wall, waiting for an appropriate time to intervene.

" Because I'm right here, stupid Aidan. "

Hearing the hateful familiar voice, Aidan just clicked his tongue loudly, purposely provoking his elder brother.

"You really has the nerves to talk behind my back, huh. I guess the beating you got 2 days ago is too light, shall I make it worse this time? "

" As if. You know which one of us is stronger, Adam. I am, so, get the hell out of here and leave me and Addie in peace."

" No way, you get out. Your stupid brain is just gonna pollute her innocent head."

The simple sentence filled with annoyance eventually lead to the exchange fierce glares and insults.

" Profiteer."

" Blackmailer."

" Workaholic."

" Gangster."

"..."

Before long, Adelaide was starting to get annoyed with the two brothers' bickering. So, she hid herself inside the blanket in an attempt to just go back to sleep. Just as she was about to go to dreamland, she suddenly remembered a very important question. But, if she wanted to even have a chance to ask, she had to deal with the two brothers first. All she could do was sigh sadly before putting an end to the ridiculous arguments.

" Shut the hell up !!!"

- Immediately, quiet down. Turns to look at Adelaide shamefully.

" Sorry, sis. He started it. "

" Don't you dare push the blame on to me ! "

" Misters, I don't care who started what but can you please shut up and listen for a moment ?!"

The brothers simply glared at each other angrily for making their sister mad. Each was blaming the other, claiming themselves to be innocent for their own reasons.

Seeing them finally shutting up, Adelaide could finally take a deep breath and talk normally again.

" Sirs, although I can vaguely see the resemblance, but can you actually tell me how and why are you guys my brothers ? As far as I know, I've never seen both of you at all in my entire life."

The brothers just glared at each other fiercely. Each was trying to make the other explain situation for the other. After almost minute of batting glances, the elder brother gave up and took on the job. He looked at his little sister with loving eyes before saying the most absurd of truths that even he, himself, felt like he was lying. Nonetheless, his thoughts didn't matter. The truth did.

" We.... weren't allowed to. It's part of the family rules that we're supposed to follow. "

Seeing her brother's regretful expressing, she immediately knew that it wasn't the brothers' fault but, there was definitely something weird going on with the brothers' family.

" That's not the end of it, is it ? Either you get to the point or get out, Mr. Mireille. "

Hearing such a domineering tone, Adam couldn't help but give himself a smile in his head. That domineering tone... definitely belongs to members of the Mireille family.

Seeing that his brother wasn't gonna talk anymore, the younger decided to slip in to lessen the misunderstanding.

" I-It wasn't any of our own will ! The elders just said that you were born with a weak sense of self so, you didn't deserve being in the Mireille family. No matter how many times we argued with them, we couldn't get them to take back their decision. So, the least we could do was let you keep the family name... In hopes that there will be a day when you can prove them wrong. So, we're - "

" Glad that you're awake. Get ready lil sis, in 2 days, you're gonna get discharged and we're all going back to headquarters. "

His brother's interruption was enough to piss him off heavily. However, the words he spoke later almost made him lose his cool. However, the presence of his beloved sister, prevented his reckless action. So, all he could was fake a carefree smile while gritting his teeth silently while hiding his killing intent.

Hearing such contrasting statements, Adelaide almost laughed to herself openly. However, what her brother said was undoubtedly true.

The previous owner of the body was certainly weak and stupid. She was very different from the two brothers who exuded majestic aura that made them seem dominant and powerful. Nonetheless, she was still confident that she wouldn't lose to the brothers in a fight against strength of presence.

So, she was fine with going back to the headquarters to take back her place in her family and punish those hypocrites who let the previous owner of the body live miserably with foster parents who barely cared for her. In this lifetime, she was determined to give payback to those to hurt her before.

" Got it. Can you prepare everything for me ? "

" No problem. Leave it to me. "

Seeing his little sister's fast reaction, Adam just praised himself for his decision of rushing here as soon as his spy in the hospital informed him of his sister's status.

Meanwhile, Aidan just swallowed down his anger silently. He didn't even have a say when his beloved little sister was gonna face those damn wolves in the main house. If she had stayed quiet, he could've just fight it out with his damn brother. However, since she already agreed, all he could do was protect her if they try to pressure her at that time. Nevertheless, there was no way that he was gonna let his brother's reckless decision go unpunished. So, he dragged him out of the ward with a poker expression on his face.

Such an action would leave anyone hanging except for Adelaide. Seeing his brother who usually wore his heart on his sleeves wearing a poker face, she knew there was something going on in his head so, she didn't bother asking and just let them leave quietly.

Once the brothers had gone a fair distance from their little sister's ward, Aidan finally spoke in a rage.

" What the hell are you thinking, Adam ?! She just woke up and you're already sending her to meet her doom, are you insane ?!"

Seeing such an expression on his little brother's face, Adam knew that this wasn't gonna end with just a simple punch in the abdomen. This time, he literally had to show his expertise in winning arguments calmly, without a single rash decision. Else, there's a possibility that he may be the one staying in the hospital instead of his little sister.

" Aidan, are you doubting my decision ? You know better than anyone why you call me a 'profiteer' , don't you ? I never make reckless mistakes and any decision I make has zero possibility of failing, Aidan."

Aidan just clicked his tongue at his big brother's words. All that he said was certainly true. Adam had a very high intuition which he didn't. Thanks to that, Adam never made mistakes all his life. However, that fact alone wasn't enough to prove that his beloved Addie was gonna be fine. So, he isn't willing to gamble with Adelaide's with such a method full of loopholes.

" Don't mess with me, Adam. If anything happens to Adelaide, - "

" Kill me."

Aidan was slightly shocked by his brother's words. If anything, both often knew that the greatest nemesis of themselves was each other. So, both them valued their own life than anything else.

However, this time, Adam was willing to gamble his life with his decision. That... might just mean that he's truly confident that he's right. Such words made Aidan stop this farce momentarily. Yet, not letting go.

" Be a man of your words, bastard."

" Don't worry, we both know I will keep my promises."

Then, both of them went back to the room. The first thing they saw was their little sister sleeping peacefully while hugging a small pillow next to her. The anger in Aidan's heart faded right away and he just brushed his little sister's hair lightly to not wake her up. Then, he reached into a safe inside the drawer next to her bed and unlocked it. There was an adorable white teddy bear and a thin glass tablet inside it. He took both of them out and put the tablet on the drawer. Then, he slid the teddy bear into her embrace.

Seeing to it that everything she might need was within her reach, Aidan left with a peace of mind. He just wanted his little sister to have a fun life without worries but if she had to face a tough battle in just a few days, might as well give her the luxuries that he had personally chosen for her now, at least she can still live like an ordinary girl even if it was just 2 days.

After Aidan left, Adam did his part. He took out a small piece of paper and a pen from pocket. Then, he jotted down a few words before putting it underneath the tablet. After a kiss on her forehead, he left immediately without looking back. He knew he had a lot to do. So, if he looked back now, he would definitely not get anything done today.
