I Slept With My Ex’s Uncle
Zulema De la Puente was about to turn twenty-five years old and believed that her life was absolutely perfect; however, in recent months her world had fallen apart and she had seen the true face of the people around her. There is nothing more revealing than when misfortunes arrive, they show you hypocrisy, and only the people who truly love you and true friendships remain by your side; you discover what you are made of and how much courage it takes to move forward.
It all happened since her father was accused of embezzlement, an accusation that destroyed her life. She did not understand how he could commit a crime, especially since he was always an ethical man, with high morals and strong convictions, someone who had guided, taught and supported her to become the person she was.
Without much detail, it must be said that the accusation and quite murky judicial proceedings led Don Santiago De la Puente to prison; where after a confusing and unfortunate incident, he died supposedly after having hanged himself with some sheets; the most traumatic and painful situation she had faced until then, but it was not the only one.
Zulema is convinced that such a situation could not be true, she refused to believe that version of the story, her father claimed his innocence despite the evidence against him, the actions of the embezzlement had been so obvious, that Zulema could not imagine that someone as intelligent as Don Santiago, could have left such loose ends in the denied assumption that he had committed the mentioned crime.
In addition, Zulema De la Puente was sure that her father would not choose to commit suicide but would demonstrate his innocence with conviction and strength, a man like that would not leave his family adrift.
After this terrible news, Zulema's mother suffered a stroke, leaving half of her body paralyzed and with problems speaking and eating, she has spent months hospitalized, with rehabilitation and therapy, with high costs that given her circumstances were difficult to cover.
To add to her sorrows, given the scandal, the company where she was working fired her, they did not want to have on their payroll the daughter of a presumed embezzler, most of her co-workers, who before congratulated her for the achievements she was reaching, began to turn their backs on her, and the professional career she was building was fading irremediably before her eyes.
Only Yanira Santibanez, the secretary of the design department, helped her take out her things and wished her good luck, telling her that if she could help her in any way, she could count on her; Zulema did not know that in the future Yanira's help would be of vital importance to clear the name of her father and her family.
They say that evils do not come alone and that rats are the first to abandon the ship when it is sinking; and for Zulema it was exactly that, her fiance Javier Belmonte, broke their engagement. A five-year relationship; in which she gave everything, building a future that collapsed instantly.
Not only that, when all the family's assets were confiscated, she wanted to sell the things she had bought for their life together; however, she was surprised to find that Javier had blocked all access to the penthouse that his mother had given them to live in after the wedding; which was going to take place three months after Zulema's twenty-fifth birthday.
There was Zulema, sitting at the bar of the pub, alone and wanting to distract herself a little from her evils, drinking a Cosmopolitan; that combination of cranberries, citrus fruits and vodka, passing through her throat, did not feel as strong as the bitterness she feels in her heart, she would like to go back in time and that none of what happened had happened.
"I never imagined seeing you in such a miserable state, the great Zulema de la Puente, in jeans and a cheap jersey," said Grecia Lujan with a disdainful look.
There was Javier's new girlfriend. Grecia had been after Javier for years, but he had never paid attention to her; until now.
