A Sudden Visit

The day seemed gloomy as usual, with fog enveloping my thoughts just as it did the sky. I was lying in my bed, rethinking everything that had happened, facing the specter of loneliness and despair. Suddenly, I heard the sound of light footsteps approaching my room.

A woman entered slowly, her face a mixture of sadness and confusion. I raised my eyes slowly to see her—it was her. My ex-girlfriend, Jina. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. How did she know I was here? And why did she come now?

“Jung-woo…” she called my name hesitantly. “I heard what happened and came to check on you.”

“Jina? What are you doing here?” I asked her in astonishment, unable to hide my anger and confusion. “I didn’t think you’d show up again.”

“I know things didn’t end well between us,” she said, trying to find the right words. “But when I heard what happened to you, I couldn’t stay away. I was worried about you.”

“Worried?” I repeated sarcastically. “Where was this worry when you left me? When I was suffering alone?”

“Please, Jung-woo, this isn’t the time for blame. I came because I care about you, despite everything.” She tried to defend herself, but it was clear she was hurting from what had happened.

“Caring now won’t change anything,” I said coldly. “I still feel the same pain, the same loneliness.”

Jina sat beside me on the bed and tried to hold my hand, but I pulled it away. There was a long silence, heavy with the weight of unspoken words.

“Jung-woo,” she began again in a soft voice, “I know you don’t want to hear this, but I want to be here for you. Even if you don’t want it, even if you hate me now. I’m here.”

“Why now, Jina? Why after all this time?” I asked bitterly. “Do you think your mere presence will make everything alright?”

“No, I don’t expect that,” she answered honestly. “But I at least want to try. I want to be here to support you, because I know I made a mistake.”

A mix of anger and sadness surged within me. Part of me wanted to throw her out of the room, but another part yearned for that warm touch, for the feeling that someone cared about me, even if it was temporary.

“If you think this will change anything, you’re wrong,” I said sharply. “But I won’t stop you from trying. Maybe you deserve a chance to fix what you messed up.”

“Thank you,” she said in a voice barely above a whisper. “I promise I won’t let you down again.”

Those words didn’t carry much hope, but they were a start. Jina stayed by my side the whole time, and there was a strange sense of comfort that began to creep into my heart. Maybe there wasn’t much hope, but her presence made the day a little less gloomy and made me feel like I wasn’t completely alone.

In the end, Jina left the room, promising to return the next day. As I stared at the ceiling, I began to think about that sudden visit. I wasn’t sure what the future held, but at least there was one person who cared enough to be here. Even if it was temporary, it meant more to me than I could admit.
