chapter 1

Suddenly, the bell rang. "Let's go, Danica," I said, as we navigated through the long hallway. Just as we turned a corner, I accidentally bumped into a boy.

"Oh, sorry," he quickly apologized.

"No worries, I didn't see you there," I replied.

"Do you guys know where class A is?" he asked, looking slightly flustered.

"Yeah, we're headed there now," Danica chimed in.

"Thanks. By the way, I'm Ethan. What's your names?" Ethan asked with a friendly smile.

"This is Danica, and I'm Ava," I introduced us.

"Nice to meet you both," Ethan replied warmly.

"Here we are, Class A," Danica announced as we reached the classroom door.

We entered the room, Danica and I took our seats while Ethan stood near the door, waiting for the professor to arrive.

Five minutes had dragged by before the professor finally arrived.

"Good morning, class. Meet your new classmate, Ethan. Will you please introduce yourself?" the professor requested.

"Gladly, sir. I'm Ethan James Carter, 15 years old, and just moved to this city," Ethan responded confidently.

"Okay, please take a seat" the professor directed.

"Hello, Ethan!" Sam greeted warmly from his seat.

"Nice to meet you, bro!" Sam continued with a friendly smile.

Ethan took his seat next to Sam, who was seated directly in front of me.

"Guys, listen up! Did everyone complete their research for physics?" the professor asked.

We all nodded in agreement. "Alright, let's begin the quiz on Isaac Newton's three laws," the professor continued, looking directly at Sam.

Sam started off by explaining Isaac Newton's first important law, followed by John and then Ashley.

"Good job to everyone who answered," the professor commended. "And those who got perfect on this quiz will receive an A."

Some students, including myself and Danica, were excited at the prospect of an A. I noticed Ethan seemed unsure about the topic.

"Alright, it's break time. Please return in 30 minutes," the professor announced.

As the bell rang, all the students, including myself, headed out to the canteen.

Danica and I queued up in the bustling cafeteria line, eagerly anticipating our lunch.

"What are you getting for lunch?" Danica asked, eyeing the menu.

"Spaghetti and juice," I replied, scanning the food options ahead.

"Okay, maybe I'll have the same. I hope they don't run out," she replied, her stomach audibly growling.

After what felt like ages, we finally grabbed our trays and settled at a table near the sunlit window. As we chatted animatedly, my gaze shifted to Monica approaching us.

"Don't get too cozy with Ethan. He's going to be my boyfriend, and I don't want other girls around him," Monica asserted firmly.

I was taken aback, trying to make sense of her unexpected possessiveness. "Monica, we hardly even talk to Ethan. He just asked us for directions to class because he's new," I explained calmly.

"I don't care. Stay away from him or you'll regret it," Monica replied sharply, her voice tinged with anger.

"Fine. But remember, this isn't just about me," I shot back, unwilling to let her dictate our friendships.

Monica stormed off, clearly irritated. Danica and I exchanged bewildered glances, unsure of what sparked Monica's outburst but relieved the tension had subsided.

"What's her deal?" Danica asked, clearly annoyed.

"Maybe she's just jealous of other girls talking to Ethan. Looks like she's heading over to Thea's table now," I replied, observing Monica's movements.

"That girl seriously has issues," Danica chuckled.

As we returned to class and settled down, Ethan suddenly spoke up, "I'm really sorry, both of you, about what Monica said. I don't even like her, and she keeps pestering me."

"I think she likes you, Ethan. That's probably why she gets so jealous when other girls talk to you," I suggested, trying to make sense of Monica's behavior.
