Chapter 3

Yeonjun have been feeling under the weather ever since he came back to Korea. It was a weekday, so his parents have gone out for work, meaning he was alone in the house. He has nothing much to do so he rests on the couch putting on his earphone and blasting music loud enough to not hear if someone spoke to him very softly, and slowly drifting asleep.

Miae on the other hand is outside Yeonjun's front door as she has been given a task by her mother, which was to deliver some dish over to their neighbor. She was quietly praying that Yeonjun was not home before finally mustering up the courage to knock on the door. She knocked three times and waited a bit but there was no answer, so she knocked one more time "Is anyone home? Mrs. Lee?", she called as she knocked but again, there was no answer. Just as she was about to leave she heard a faint voice telling her to come in, she thought she heard wrong, so she leaned near the door listening and heard Yeonjun coughing.

"I'm coming in… she said once more and opened the door and her eyes directly landed on the sick boy sitting on a white couch. Miae walked in the house and put the dishes she brought onto their table.

"What's that?", Yeonjun asked getting up, taking out his earphones from his ears, he walked and stood next to Miae picking up one of the containers opening up its lid.

"That's cucumber salad and this one is braised potatoes and this is steamed eggplant." Miae pointed at the top of each container as she explains which is which. She noticed how Yeonjun scrunches up his nose a bit at the mention of eggplants "you still don't like eggplants?", she asked curiously.

"Its squishy and I hate the texture", Yeonjun calmly said, turning his head to the other side and coughed as he covered his mouth with his arm.

"You're still the same picky eater, huh?", Miae muttered.

"And you're still so short." Yeonjun spat back wasting no time to respond to her.

"Short?? I'm like...the second-tallest girl in my class.", Miae fought back, she was surprised to be called short when most people would compliment her height.

"What? Is your school, the school of dwarfs?? And how tall are you? Like 5'1? 5'2??"

Miae felt her blood boiling, she couldn't understand why she was getting so worked up because of Yeonjun's comments. If it was Beomgyu or any one of her friends would she get this defensive too, she wondered.

"Whatever, put the dishes in another container or pot and give it back soon".

Miae tried to keep her cool and walked towards the door, she couldn't see Yeonjun but could hear him coughing again. She pulled the door knob and opened the door, "And I'm 5'5" she said closing the door as she walked out.

Later the same night Miae couldn't fall asleep and felt like talking a walk just nearby, perhaps at a park near their apartment. She had on her hello kitty socks, white flops, a plain black shirt and white shorts, and headed out.

The park was very calming and quiet, sounds of crickets and some other bugs and insects could be heard very clearly. Miae was on her way to sit to a bench where she would call her spot or seat but had second thoughts when she was someone else sitting on it.

She turned her heel to walk back home, but heard a cough from the person sitting on her seat which made her stop her tracks, turning her head around slowly to look at the person more clearly. However since it was dark and the person had on a white cap, she couldn't see their face. Until the person coughed again once more which gave her the affirmation that it was no other than her next door neighbor.

"Choi Yeonjun?" she called though her guess that it was him was 50-50.

She could see that the person in the white cap turned their head to look at her but the streetlight reflects their cap which gives more shadow on their face, so it was difficult to see their face.

"Han Miae"
