Game of Fate
Two weeks had passed and now came the long awaited math fest. Everyone were waiting with baited breaths as they anticipated the pageant competition.
Each section had 1 representative, only 1 boy or 1 girl. Due to their looks and poise, Zed and Gian were elected as their section's representatives.
Merrily
Weird… I thought that only one representative per section is allowed, so how come we have two?
As usual, Merrily is sitting beside the window, admiring the birds and humming a tune. That was before a loud bang suddenly echoed through his ears as the classroom door flung open.
Merrily
"What…?" I turn around to face the door in shock, and I saw both Zed and Gian leaning against the door frame, both looking at me.
Merrily
"Is there… A problem…?"
Silence. Both boys only stood there, gazing at Merrily silently. Merrily swallowed his saliva nervously and stood up, making his way towards the door.
Zed
"Wait." I grab his left hand and pulled him, followed by Gian grabbing his right hand and pulling him close as well.
Merrily
"... Is there a problem?" I chuckled nervously and tried to pull away, but the two boys' grip were strong, leaving red marks on my wrist.
Merrily
Their figures were towering over mine ominously. How can they be so tall when they're only 13?
Gian
"You might be aware that the two of us were elected as the Mr. Math Fest of our section, correct?" I glared down at Merrily, my breath caressing his face softly.
Zed
"Only one representative is allowed per section, and we want you to pick who you want to run for Mr. Math Fest." I pulled his arm closer, his wrist lightly touching my lips.
Merrily
"The teacher exists for that, not me." Merrily shook them both away and sighed, making his way towards the exit again.
Gian
"We want you." I grab his arm again, determined to let him pick.
Merrily
"Just play rock, paper, scissors, okay?"
Gian and Zed looked at each other hesitantly and sighed.
Zed
"Why are you so…. Oblivious..?" I groaned and pulled out a coin in my pocket.
Gian
"How about a classic game of toss a coin?" I grinned and looked at the coin in anticipation.
Zed
"You determine the sides, Merrily."
Merrily
"Fine. Tails for Gian and heads for Zed." I took the coin from Zed and flipped it.
The small metal coin spun in the air. Merrily quickly grabbed it and the two boys approached Merrily, cornering him in the corner.
Gian
"What does it say?" I clasped Merrily's hand and opened his fingers gently.
Zed
A cheeky grin spread across my face as I glared at Gian, then back to Merrily. I chuckled and pressed the coin against Merrily's chest.
"Keep the coin."
Merrily
"... There you have it. Now, please excuse me." I dropped the coin in my pocket and left the room, leaving Gian and Zed alone.
Zed
"You can never win against me, let alone Merrily." I smirked at Gian and followed Merril.
Gian was left there, silent and frustrated.
Gian
"Let's see about that, Mr. Murderer." I clicked my tongue and went to my dorm.
