Chapter 2: A New Odd Job

Kei woke up to find herself on the floor. This was no shock to her since she experienced rather terrifying nightmares that could get even the toughest and roughest to toss and turn. She immediately went to the bathroom and freshened herself up for the day. After she was finished fixing herself up, she was pacing around the living room, still unable to process what happened last night.

“Man, this is too good to be true….” Kei thought to herself. Her ears perked up when she heard a door open. She kept up her guard as she saw Nagisa step out of the room.

“Good morning.” Nagisa said with a radiant smile on her face.

“Yeah. Morning.” Kei responded, with some hesitation and suspicion in her voice. Nagisa sensed this and decided to try and break the ice a little bit.

“Alright, I can’t take this anymore…” She whined, Kei looked at her with a slightly concerned look on her face, though it was barely noticeable.

“...I understand that you do not trust me but we are going to be housemates for quite a while now. You don’t mind if I simply just call you Kei-chan?” She asked. Kei hesitated but proceeded to nod.

“I don’t mind…honestly, I’m sorry if I seem rather distrusting. It’s just that a lot of people have deceived me before.”

“No, it’s alright.”

Nagisa paused a bit before saying: ”You can eat anything I have in the fridge, I have to freshen up before we head to the company so I can introduce you to my boss.”

She headed to the bathroom and after a few minutes, she was all freshened up.

“Erm…so do we go to this…company of yours?” Kei asked. Nagisa nodded and led Kei to the door.

They proceeded to head out and walked to the company building. After a few minutes of walking, they entered a slim building. They proceeded to enter the elevator and headed to the top floor where the boss of the company was waiting for them.

“I assume you must be the girl Nagisa recommended.” He said. Kei nodded her head and proceeded to speak:

“Greetings, my name is Hoshinomiya Kei.” She extended her hand to shake his hand.

“She was a street performer with a lot of talent so I had to give her this opportunity.” Nagisa chimed in.

“I see. After all, one of the members of the company’s idol group has resigned.”

Kei did not seem to want to be part of the idol group but she had no choice if she wanted a job. Thankfully, she wasn’t replacing the main star of the group because she preferred performing in the background.

Unlike the main star, she and the other idols did not get as much work so they would usually go around the company building just to kill time. Nagisa would sometimes visit Kei in order to check on how she’s doing.

Today seemed to be one of those days:

“So, how’s work going?” Nagisa asked.

“I have no work yet again.” Kei sighed. ”It’s so boring having to walk around the company, only to get no work.”

“It’s been around a week since you got into the company, it kind of makes sense.” Nagisa said, as she sat down next to Kei. “You’re quite amusing, I have never heard anyone groan at the fact that they get no work.”

“I just want to do something at least….” Kei mumbled.

It took only a few minutes for Nagisa to have an idea on what she can do to help solve Kei’s problem.

“You know, the company is short of some janitors. Perhaps you can work as one as a part-time job.”

“That doesn’t sound like a bad idea, I’ll go head to our boss’s office.” Kei said, as she stood up and was about to head to the CEO’s office.

“You don’t mind if I go along with you? I’m currently on break right now.” Nagisa asked.

Kei nodded and the two headed to the CEO’s office.
