Chapter 5

Although Kurt didn't quite understand what System 07 was explaining, he nodded as if he understood everything. Without pressing or commanding the proxy system, Kurt read his home page profile.

In one corner the 'advanced power' section had caught his interest. In a half-whispered voice, he commanded the proxy system to open the 'advanced power'.

There were dozens of lists of quests. For each successfully completed list, the proxy system would unlock a hidden reward. All the unlocked hidden rewards could be used by Kurt in his mission to save the greatest civilization.

"Master, as you know, humans in this world have the ability to use the power of nature. For that reason, magical system has decided to provide you with several types of power that you can obtain by completing the quests."

After Fred shop's hours were over, Kurt followed Fred to his house. Along the way, Kurt didn't bump into villagers at all.

"There's no one with natural ability in this village?" Kurt asked after a few moments of silence.

"Yes, in this village everyone is just ordinary people. How about your village? Do you also come from a village that only consists of ordinary people?" Fred asked curiously.

"Yeah, everyone from my hometown doesn't have any power." Kurt answered honestly.

It was a fact that all human beings from his world were ordinary people. Humans with supernatural powers or anything related to magical powers were mythical creatures that only exist in children's books.

Before Kurt agreed with his own statement, he remembered about System 07's question to him.

Before they moved here, the system asked him about vampires. Does that mean vampires actually exist in his world? Kurt asked himself.

He was confused by his own question before he rejected the idea of mythical beings. It's impossible, a vampire is just a fairy tale character that exists in a story book.

"Where can I buy black pearl mushrooms?" Kurt asked again.

Fred's footsteps stopped for a few seconds before moving again. "You need black pearl mushrooms?"

Kurt nodded as he watched Fred's slightly frowning expression. When Kurt checked the list of items he needed to be able to gain nature powers, he stumbled across a list of items for lighting type powers that only required a few types of plants.

Black pearl mushroom is one of the necessary types of plants. Kurt thought maybe he could ask Fred about the plant.

"I have never seen a black pearl mushroom but I have heard about a type of mushroom from my friend. My friend is a sailor and recently he mentioned an unknown black mushroom."

"An unknown black mushroom?"

"Yes." Fred nodded before he continued.

"The unknown black mushroom only grows in a cave under the sea floor around the volcanic ring area. I have never heard of anyone going down to the sea to collect the mushroom. After all, no one knows what the function of that mushroom."

"The black mushroom you're talking about, is it the black pearl mushroom?" Fred only called the plant that grew around the volcanic undersea area a black mushroom, so it was important for Kurt to make sure it was the same mushroom he was looking for.

"Maybe." Fred shrugged uncertainly. All this time he had only heard about black mushrooms from his friend.

"Could you describe the black pearl mushroom's appearance? I can compare it with the black mushroom from my memory." Fred turned to Kurt.

"The upper part of it looks a button but the shape from on top it's like a ball and the surface is slightly rough. The lower part is small like a stick and the mushroom in dark red colour." Kurt described the mushroom's appearance based on information he read from proxy system.

"Black pearl mushroom's colour is dark red instead of black?" Fred asked surprised. The colour was different from black mushroom he knew.

"Yes. It's dark red, not black." Kurt nodded.

"Then the black mushroom most likely not the black pearl mushroom. The colour of black mushroom is black. Its inside is also black."

Their conversation ended just like that when they finally reached Fred's house.

"Master, I will explain to you about the quests' reward you will obtain for this mission." Robotic voice of System 07 spoke as Kurt closed the door of his temporary room.

After dinner, Kurt went into a room that Fred's family had prepared for him. "Before that, let's talk about vampires first. Do those creatures exist in this world?"

Kurt's question sent a chill through System 07. "Master, why do you want to know about vampires? Are you a vampire?"

"Hey, 07."

"Yes?" Hesitantly the system answered.

"If I were a vampire, I would have destroyed the antique chest that I found a long time ago." System 07 couldn't believe what he was hearing.

Destroy the antique chest? If the antique chest was destroyed, it wouldn't exist and go through this mission with Kurt. That thoughts made System 07 felt sad for some reason.

Kurt waited for System 07 to speak but the system just remained silent. Could it be that he has caused the system cry again?

"Can you tell me about that creature in this world?" After a few seconds Kurt spoke again.

"Yes." The system quietly snuffed which made Kurt frowned.

"Vampires do exist in this world but they are very difficult to meet. Vampires are creatures that live in a state of hiding by doing disguises. Many of them live near human settlements to get their blood supply easily."

Kurt unconsciously swallowed when he heard the information from System 07. Creatures that love human blood were the creatures he hated the most.

"Okay, now tell me about the quest." Kurt continued. He was too annoyed to hear more about the bloodsucking creature.

"I will explain about the quest you've chosen first, the refined light." System 07 started.

"Refine light is a power of pure light. The way to get the power of pure light is by collecting five types of plants that have been specified in the item collection’s type section."

"Once you have successfully obtained one of the five types of plants, the countdown will start by itself. If you fail to collect all types of plants after the countdown ends, all types of plants that you have been successfully obtained will be confiscated as compensation."

"Such an annoying system. Why do you have to confiscate my items if I fail to complete the quest?" Kurt snorted.

"It as your payment for the failure achieved by you." System 07 answered.

Even though System 07 did not know why the main system wanted to confiscate the items collected by the participants, he still had to tell and explain the rules that had been set.
