The Truth

Charles

After Charlotte has calmed down. Grandma showed her to her room which was right next to mine. I lay on my bed, I didn't know what to do.

She stayed there for a while. I wish I knew what she was thinking of. She said that she was now okay but I know she's not. I wanted to be the one who kissed away her tears and never saw her in pain but now her pain is caused by me. I should have told her the moment I met her 4 years ago but my parents were worried that if I did, people might just be with me for my money. I knew Charlotte never did.

I have always loved her but she never felt the same way. She was always in love with Michael and now I guess I am afraid she still is even if it's over between them.

And now, I'm apparently with Ally.

Suddenly, I felt the urge to get up which I did, and walked into the room next to mine.

I stopped in front of her door.

I knocked and then walked in.

Charlotte was sitting on her bed. She looked lost in thoughts, I have a feeling she didn't know I walked in.

I sat on the other side of the bed and pulled her close to me.

"I'm sorry," It pains me to see her in such a sorry state. She didn't look angry though she just looked confused. Did she feel betrayed that I hadn't told her earlier despite all our years of friendship?

She smiles back at me, "I just wanted to know, if you were this big shot heir, why did you become friends with someone like me? A poor person, someone who can never help you."

I furrowed my brows. Why would she think that?

"I became friends with you because you are you, you were like the greatest friend that ever lived," I told her. That was part of the reason why I wanted to be friends with her so I wasn't lying.

She laughs gently.

"Are you mad at me, I know I should have told you earlier," I ask her.

"No," she says.

Then there was a soft knock on the door, Grandma walked in and said, "Dinners ready."

Charlotte got up from my arms and followed Grandma down the stairs.

I smile, she's not mad at me.

With that thought, I went downstairs.

Charlotte

We were all in the dining room.

The tables were made out of fine marble, I slid my hands through the smooth surface.

I didn't know what to expect now. I know that it isn't their fault but I couldn't help but feel betrayed they didn't tell me earlier.

We all ate in silence for a while until Grandma spoke up.

"Charlotte, Charles, we have something to tell you."

What was the thing they wanted to tell us?

I look at Charles to see if he knows what they are talking about, but judging by the look on his face, he doesn't. He is just as clueless as I am.

"We want you two to get married," Grandma says casually.

"What!" me and Charles cried at the same time.

I almost spit the thing I was eating out.

They want US to get married?

We aren't even good together, and besides Charles has Ally. He wants her, not me.

They've got to be kidding.

"You two are going to get married," Grandpa says firmly.

This can't be real.

I look at Charles to see what he was thinking about this.

His brows were furrowed, and on his face was a grim but unreadable expression.
