The Secret's Out

Charlotte

Charles seemed a little different from usual, he was really quiet on the car ride, too quiet, we used to talk all the time.

I sighed, things really are changing between us. I looked outside of the window and a gigantic mansion came into view. It had a big water fountain in the middle of the huge structure.

The enormous golden gate started to open. I stared out the window in awe. I have never seen a place anything like this before. We surely can't be in the right place, can we? I thought we were just visiting Charles's grandparents. I have met them many times before but they only have come over to our house to visit. Now, thinking about it, we have never been to our grandparent's house, have I?

That means that this could be the place, but that's impossible isn't it?

This house could easily belong to the richest person in the whole city, or maybe even the whole country.

Before the heavy gates could open, I saw in the middle of the gate that it said Denver Resident.

So this is the place? How is that possible?

I turned around confused and glanced at Charles.

"Where are we?" I asked him.

"We are at my grandparent's house, remember? That's where mom said to go to?" Charles asked nonchalantly.

Charles acted as if this was normal.

"This is their place?" I asked.

"Yeah," Charles says as if this was the most normal thing in the world.

Soon the car circled up onto the front door of the mansion that was like 20 feet off the ground and on a hill. The driver opened the door for us the arc door of the mansion opens.

Grandma came rushing out. I ran into her arms. It's so good to see her, I haven't seen her in so long.

"It's so good to see you Charlotte dear," Grandma says stroking my hair.

Charles came over and merely went inside.

Our parents were inside. They were seated on a fancy couch arm-in-arm. Charles went to sit on the opposite side next to them and next to Grandpa. Soon me and grandma followed him in.

I sat next to Charles.

"What is this place?" I asked. It was a question I have been dying to ask since we've got here.

Grandma frowned, "You didn't tell her yet?"

"Not yet Mom," my father told her.

"Tell me what?" I asked.

"Um, Charlotte," Mom started. "We are actually a part of one of the most prestigious family in all of Avenport."

Billionaires? What since when? I opened my mouth to take but no words came out.

"Our family is one of the most powerful families of all time," Grandma says kindly.

"I know that this is a lot to process," Charles says, he wrapped his arms around me and pulled me into a big hug.

"Why did you guys never tell me?" I asked.

My eyes fell onto the coffee table. There were a bunch of magazines. They were those expensive magazines that I never have read. On the magazines were pictures of Charles, the family, everything.

I knew that they were well off but I didn't know that they were a billionaire well off. I mean the school was prestige, the only reason I got in was because I got a scholarship.

Before I looked up, a magazine caught my eye, it read "Charles Denver, heir of Denver Group and much more".

Denver Group? That big famous company that is practically everywhere? I thought the name was just a coincidence but now everything starts to make a lot more sense. Charles was the Heir to a billion-dollar company? The Charles I have known since 9th grade?

"We just never found the right time," Grandpa who was quiet this entire time spoke up.

I buried my head into Charles's shirt and he held on to me tightly.

"I'm sorry Charlotte I should have told you earlier," Charles says.

I look up at him, "It's fine."

It has to be.
