Chapter 3.1: I Will Save My Beloved Maid (Pt.1)

'Hmm... I know I said that I'll talk to Father about learning magic but how do I do it?', I said while wondering how to convince him.

'Once Father already made a decision, he stays with it until the end, which is good but when that decision is wrong, that's where the problem finally appears because his firmness could also mean stubbornness. Even my cuteness doesn't work on him, which only means I have to use determination. Father loves it when someone is determined to achieve their goal, and that's what I'll show him', I said to myself with determination and resolve blossoming within me.

After planning on how to change Father's mind about my safety during magic lessons, I called Selene.

"Selene?", I got out of my chair as I call out her name.

"Yes, Milady?", she responded while suddenly appearing behind me.

"Um, can you tell me where Father is? And for the umpteenth time, stop doing that", I responded with and awkward smile, 'I know that Selene pays a lot of attention to me, but she still spooks me every time she suddenly appears behind me like a ghost', I said to myself while wiping the cold sweat that was forming on my forehead.

"Ah, Master is in his study. And I'm not sure what your talking about, Milady", she replied with an innocent smile as if she didn't do anything wrong.

"Ugh, never mind. I'll go to Father, I have something to discuss with him", I said with an obvious tone of defeat, that said, 'I don't care what you do anymore'.

And with that, I left my room and walk straight at the of the hall, where my Father's study is located.

With every step, cold sweat on my back increases as I reached his study. I gently knocked on the door and as soon as I did I heard a voice.

"Come in", Father replied as soon as he heard the knock.

As soon as I heard those words, I opened the door. Inside the room, you would see a man with a messy black hair and dark blue eyes, sitting on a chair, wearing his tie loosely and looking at the documents seriously. He looked up and as soon as he saw me entering the room, all the seriousness on his face faded away.

"Oh! Lumi, did you want to play with me?~", he quickly stood up from his seat and asked sweetly while giving me an overbearing hug.

"Ugh, Father. I'm suffocating...", I said to quickly while slapping his shoulders with all my might.

"Oh, sorry dear", he said when he heard my plea, before finally letting me go.

'Ugh, I almost fainted', I said to myself with a sigh.

"Father, can I ask you a favor?", I asked with great resolve.

"Sure, what is it, my dear? And please take a seat", he asked before offering me to take a seat.

I sat opposite of him, facing him directly as if I was facing the final boss in an RPG game, before stating my request.

"Um, Father, would you let me learn magic?", I asked him carefully and nervously but not an ounce of resolve nor determination faded within me.

"What do you mean, my dear? Haven't I already given you my permission?", he asked sheepishly as if he doesn't know what I'm talking about.

"You already know what I mean, Father. I don't want to study the spell's formula anymore. I want to practice, I want to apply my mana onto the formulas that I have studied and practice some spells, not just to study the formulas like I'm some amateur scholar", I replied with complete resolve and determination.

'Yes, finally! I'll study real magic!', I said to myself while trotting back to my room happily.

Hearing my reply with resolve and determination.

'Flashback'

"Alright. If that's what you want", he said with a sigh, as if he has been defeated.

"Thank you, Father!", I said before stepping out of my seat and giving him a hug.

"Alright, your teacher will be arriving in 2 days, so get ready", he said before returning the hug.

"Very well, Father. Thank you, again!" I replied with a big smile before stepping out of the room.

'End of the Flashback'

'I'm happy and all, but it felt like something was wrong with Father. When I asked him to let me learn magic, like real magic, fear flashed in his eyes for a moment. I wonder what he's afraid of', I said to myself while thinking of what he was afraid of before getting interrupted by Selene's greeting.

"Oh, welcome back, Milady", she said when she noticed coming inside.

"Ah, yeah. I'm back, Selene", I replied slightly startled.

'I guess I've been thinking so hard, I didn't even know I've already entered my room and I wouldn't even notice it, if it weren't for Selene', I said to myself sheepishly while secretly being thankful for Selene.

"Um, is there something on my face my lady?", she asked awkwardly when she noticed I was staring at her intently.

"Oh, it's nothing. I was just thankful for having you by my side, that's all", I said to her gratefully with a gentle smile on my face while giving her a hug.

"Not at all, Milady. Rather, I should be the one thankful for keeping me by your side", she replied while returning the hug and patting my head.

"Then, I guess were thankful for each other", I said with a smile. Selene was slightly taken aback, as if my answer was unexpected, before suddenly laughing.

This time, I was the one taken aback because I've never seen Selene laugh like that. Even when we got to know each other well, she has been reserved at showing her emotions.

'Well, I guess it doesn't matter. I wonder who'll be my teacher. I know learning magic will be hard but as long as I have Selene by my side, I know I'll be fine", I said to myself before laughing with her.

And, that night, warm laughter of the girls echoed in the room, without them knowing what the future has in store for them.
