I made eye contact with him for a moment through the mask before he grabbed my knife and removed the gag to speak.
"Not a chance, kid. I let it slide last time considering the situation, but you aren't getting such an easy hit on me again."
"Hay wait, I wasn't going to stab you this time,"
I grabbed at the knife as he lifted it up out of reach.
"Speaking of what was a young one such as yourself doing in the new wood alone anyway, It is off limits for a reason."
I was still trying to get the knife as I started to answer before I even realized what I was saying.
"First of I'm not a kid, and second, I wasn't alone..."
As the words left my mouth, I started to crumble again. As I replied, everything In my mind again, I felt tears sting at my eye's. I was breaking, and there was nothing I could do I needed to calm down. Keep moving, survive because if I didn't, then this hole thing was pointless, and everything that happened wouldn't matter anymore.
He started to panic, letting up for a moment, as he awkwardly tried to comfort me by placing one hand on my back.
"Hay, Hay, now it's alright. Just tell us what happened and where the rest of your group is."
I was crying harder now, barely forcing the words out of my broken sobs.
"They- hic... are all... 'sniff'... all dead."
It was quiet again, as they had a silent conversation between the group.
"OK... Little one, where is your home, we can return you to your tribe if you tell us where it is."
He was talking as calmly as he could as he tried to figure out the situation. He was still awkwardly paying my back and hashing me as I whimpered and sobbed.
"I...hic... don't hic... have a home hic... anymore."
I felt like balling my eyes out, but I needed to call down. I had all but quenched my tears, but the hiccups were much arder to get rid of. As I continued to fight the emotional breakdown that this conversation had been trying to cause, I watched as the group of men had another more intense conversation with their eyes.
Finally, the young man who had given me the weird bloody plant knelt down by me and started to cautiously ask.
"Little one, I apologize for bringing up such a sore topic, but we need to know before we bring you to our tribe... can you tell us why your family left your tribe? and... what killed your parents?"
I thought it was weird how he was trying to comfort me, almost like a child, but it suddenly made sense... he thought I was a child? he was being so patient with me cause he thought I was just some scared lost kid. Did he think my family was kicked out of our old tribe?
I was speechless. Should I correct him? How would I even do that? Oh no, sorry, I'm actually a fully grown adult alien who traveled to this world to scout out a place for my entire civilization to take residence, but when my team was killed off I was abandoned.
That sounded crazy. But what was I supposed to say then?
"I... my tribe was... destroyed... me and my companions were the only ones who could escape. But as we were trying to find somewhere new to settle, we were attacked by a beast... we didn't stand a chance in our current state. I... I didn't even get to bury our dead... I... couldn't do anything."
The tears were coming back, and I couldn't do this again.
There was another exchange off looks before the group agreed to take me with them. As I once again fought back the tears in an attempt to calm down, the group began to get up, reminding me of my main objective.
"Wait, please, you need to at least clean and bandage your injury."
Forcing him back down, I grabbed yet another knife and moved in an attempt to cut back the cloth of his pants before he grabbed my hand.
"How the... How many of these things do you have, woman?"
Answer 2 on each leg, one on each arm, and one around my waist. I already lost one of my small wrist ones, and he had both my upper leg knives right now, so I had 3 still fastened to me. So, even if he took this one from my hand, I'd still have more.
"Just let me help you, please."
Between my eyes being still damp from my cry fest and the fact he thought I was a pitiful child that had lost everything, he must have felt quite a bit of pity for me. He eventually let me continue, but it was clear he would stop me the second it looked like I was actually going to break the skin.
I didn't waste a second making him regret his choices as I quickly cut his pants up to expose the wound. But when he took my knife away this time, I didn't fight it. I had already finished with it anyway.
While he was still dazed, I pulled out some alcohol whipes and used them on my hands. It wasn't ideal, but it was something I then dumped som alcohol on his leg using a small rag to clean up around the blade.
I would need to use the tourniquet a few inches above the injury before I removed the blade to reduce the amount of blood he would lose. I quickly took out the band of the tourniquet and brought it up to his upper thigh.
"I need you to lift your leg while I attach the tourniquet."
"Ohh, no, you don't kid, let's just slow down a moment. What exactly do you think you are doing?"
I look at him, then back at his injury one more time before giving into his questions.
"I am trying to slow the bleeding, so it will be safe for me to remove the blade and bandage your injury before we start to move again. Now lift your leg so I can attach the tourniquet, please."
He was completely dumbfounded, He looked at the strap in her hands and thought very carefully.
"You can put the strap on, but I'm not letting you take the knife out, okay."
He needed to calm this kid down enough to be allowed to start moving again, but that didn't mean he would just sit by while she put his life at risk.
He lifted his leg, and I moved to attach the tourniquet tightening it with the small metal stick it came with. Once it was tight enough, I clipped it in place so it wouldn't release while I was working.
"Thank you for cooperating."
That was the last thing I said before I caused his heart to stop as I took hold of the blade and cleanly but quickly tor it from his leg, causing him to let out another pained scream.
There was still blood, but it was far less with the tourniquet in place. I needed to act quickly before he could stop me I quickly took the cleaning alcohol and dumped it on the wound causing it to know doubt sting before I took some gauze and a wrap out to finally dress the wound.
I was able to finish taking care of it, although it was the bare minimum it would at least hold out for a bit.
"You... gahh! what the mmm!!!" he took a deap breath before he continued. "Never do that again."
I was pleasantly surprised he was handling this fantastically, and his ability to keep his cool with what he thought was a child was absolutely incredible. Then, I picked up each of my blades, wiping them down and placing them back in their holders as I answered.
"Yes, sir, sorry, sir."
I then went to the river clearing of all the tools I used on him and myself before storing them away and panicking up to leave while the group stared with cautious eyes.
