Library Chapter 5

I’m Legendary When I Go To Work Even After Being Possessed

After a while in the tense atmosphere, it was Carlix who opened his mouth first.

He glared at William with a somewhat softened attitude.

“Tomorrow morning. If you make me wait again, I will light your office on fire.”

Only the atmosphere became calm, but the tone of his voice remained the same.

I was inwardly surprised at their nonchalant appearance. Why does the male lead act like that towards him?

On the other hand, William only smiles benevolently. It was like an honorable older brother who was hard on his bad-tempered younger brother.

“After all, you are an understanding friend. Oh, by the way, my office has a protective barrier, so it’s safe from disasters such as typhoons and fires.”

No, the director may be more advanced than I thought.

William smiled at me, ignoring Carlix’s furious gaze.

“Miss Erika, why don’t you rest at the library mansion today and start working as a librarian tomorrow?”

“Thank you so much for providing me with a place to stay.”

That’s what I wanted to hear the most right now.

It had been an exhausting day since morning, as I didn’t even have time to eat and was sprinting to the library from dealing with Verdi. I just wanted to go to bed right away.

“Would you mind waiting in the hallway for a moment? I’ll just finish the paperwork and then take you straight to the official residence.”

Enduring the urge to offer a big bow to William, I left the office.

I didn’t know why, but Carlix followed me.

“Your Grace, let’s go down first.”

He is the male lead, so a supporting actor shouldn’t block his way.

I stopped deliberately and gave way to him.

Carlix suddenly stopped. He also looked uncomfortable.

Why does he frown when he sees me?

“Why?”

“Huh? What do you mean?”

“Why do you talk to me like that while being polite and obedient to William? Did you forget that I was your guardian?”

I was speechless for a moment. What are you talking about with that tone of voice? However, there is a skill that one learns after three years of social life.

‘Good things are good’ and ‘Don’t make enemies’.

With a forced smile, I spoke politely.

“I am sorry if the guardian’s remarks made you uncomfortable. I will never forget that you helped me. Thank you, Grand Duke.”

Perhaps the thank you had calmed him down, since he changed the subject.

“Why did you apply for a librarian job? No matter how honorable it is, it’s not an easy task for a noble lady to do.”

I couldn’t easily answer Carlix’s question.

To be honest, I don’t know much about Erika in the original.

Her role in the original was as small as an ant.

But I know two things for sure.

That she had terrorized the Royal Library for the sake of her crush on the rebel leader.

And…

“I…”

It is said that the person who will put ‘I’ on the guillotine is the man in front of me.

I lifted my head and looked straight at Carlix.

The cobalt blue eyes were as beautiful as jewels, but if a mistake were made, they would become as cold as if they would cut off hearts at once.

“…I really like the library.”

I had my business smile on.

There is only one way to avoid the same ending. It’s by doing the opposite.

If the Erika in the original was hostile to the Royal Library, ‘I’ would stand on the side of the library.

“So, I will be a great librarian.”

Then you won’t kill me

“Miss, are you up?””

When I opened my eyes, a maid wearing an apron greeted me kindly. She was a maid that belonged to the residence.

I got out of my fluffy bed and slightly stretched.

“I’ve prepared some washing water, so please wash up and come down to the restaurant on the first floor.”

“Yes, thank you.”

After washing briefly, I changed into a stiffly ironed librarian uniform.

A blouse with a light blue ribbon and a silver cloak. The cool blue skirt came down to my calf and was comfortable for moving around.

The exclusive shoes were brown boots which were also comfortable due to their low heels.

I swallowed a sigh as I combed my long brown hair and tied it with a blue ribbon.

“I can’t believe I’m going to work even after I possess this body.”

Others live leisurely while being cared for as a royal princess or a princess of a prestigious family, but I am the only one having the experience of life here.

Who knew the quiet and calm Erika would have tried to sell the country for love.

For now, it is best to stay quiet as a librarian to avoid the guillotine ending.

Fortunately, I knew who the head of the rebel forces was.

While working in the library, I’ll collect information and find a way to get back to reality.

Since it is a royal library where all the knowledge of the kingdom is gathered, there must be at least a book on how to return.

As a supporting actor, I have no power to overturn the original work.

After getting ready, I went down to the dining room of the official residence, and William was there waiting at the table where breakfast had been prepared.

“Good morning, Erika. Did you sleep well?”

“I slept comfortably. Thank you for your concern, Director.”

William took out a chair, helped me sit comfortably, and looked closely at my clothes.

“You look great in a uniform.”

“I like it too.”

While savoring the bread and chicken stew served for breakfast, William glanced at me while drinking tea.

“Do you like the food?”

“It’s really good.”

“You seem determined, but I won’t order Miss Erika to do so much work. Above all, I, the director, am the guardian of Miss Erika.”

Director William smiled softly as if he were relieved.

“Thank you for your consideration.”

I lamented my poor fate of working even after being possessed, but I am grateful that the sweet, handsome boss is a strong backer.

I smiled with a puzzled feeling.

After breakfast, William called me to the drawing room.

He brought the bookfinder I returned yesterday and politely asked.

“If you don’t mind, can I see the power of a book leader?””

“What should I do? Actually, I don’t know how to use it.”

“Simple. Put the bookfinder on the palm of your hand and tell it the title of the book you want to find; the needle on the compass will then tell you the location. Say .”

I said the title quietly as William told me.

“.”

The compass responded immediately to the remark. Light emanated from the jewel, and the needle began to spin violently.

Light stretched out like a shining thread toward the southwest. It was an amazing compass that pinpoints the location of a book with light.

When I looked at William in surprise, I saw a face staring blankly at the light.

He exclaimed with a low sigh and carefully wrapped the compass around my hand.

He then put his forehead on it and spoke reverently as if praying to God.

“I’m telling you… What a wonder.”

His embarrassing lines made my heart race for a moment.

William also hurriedly stepped back, perhaps realizing that his actions were excessive.

“I-I’m just amazed by this… I’m sorry if you feel disrespected.”

William, whose ears turned red, apologized in embarrassment. I answered calmly because I was afraid he would be embarrassed if I felt ashamed.

“It’s okay. I’m glad my ability will help the Royal Library.”

William still had a red face, but spoke in a calm voice.

“Shamefully, I couldn’t properly grasp the problem caused by the magic book loan. I feel deeply responsible as the director of the Royal Library. I’m sorry to pass the blame on to Miss Erika.”

“You don’t have to apologize. I owe a lot of money to the Director. I’m rather happy to be of help.”

William looked at me with deep thoughts.

“I have something for Miss Erika.”

What he took out of his arms was a fountain pen, which seemed to be made of black stones and had a luxurious gloss.

“It’ll be helpful if you keep it.”

William’s expression was serious and solemn.

The pen is stronger than the sword, but a fountain pen won’t help me. Did you give it to me as a token of being a guardian?

Doubtful, I looked around at his fountain pen, and William urged with a big smile.

“Okay, let’s go outside. There’s a carriage waiting.”

“A carriage? I can walk.”

“You can commute by carriage from now on. I’m your guardian, so let me do this much.”

He got up first and reached out his hand.

~*~

A driver with a four-wheeled carriage was waiting in front of the official residence. It looked like it was exclusively for the Royal Library, as it was painted with the goddess of wisdom holding a book.

It’s so impressive that I think I’m going to cry.

A job that also pays for transportation.

It’s a treatment that can’t be compared to my previous job, where I even paid for transportation for a ride that felt like going through hell.

Dedicated to working as a librarian, I got into the carriage with William.

As the wagon departed, the scenery passed swiftly out the window. Artemia, the capital of the Ruberian Kingdom, was dyed with the vivid colors of early summer.

It was a rich and splendid city.

The central road was wide and straight; there were even beautiful small parks and various shops all over the downtown area.

The townhouses, where the nobles who entered the Royal Palace stayed, had an old-fashioned style like an old European city.

The carriage stopped in front of the main gate of the Royal Library.

The white stone building was dazzling. Delicate and magnificent carvings could be seen on the walls under the elegant and beautiful dome-shaped roof.

“Miss Erika, please come down carefully.”

William held my hand so I could get off the carriage. I supported the second male lead because he was a gentleman.

After walking along the beautiful garden and long corridor for a while, we finally arrived in front of the library entrance hall.

William opened the library door ahead and smiled sweetly.

“Welcome to the Royal Library, where all the wisdom and intelligence of the continent, mythology and history coexist.”

Following his guidance, I took a step inside.

At the same time, the scenery of the majestic library came into view. The ceiling was made of elegant and beautiful dome-shaped glass windows, allowing the blue sky to be seen as it was.

The round walls were lined with ivory columns, bookshelves were adorned with gold and silver, and books were wrapped in leather or silk.

Crystal chandeliers lit up everywhere and the artworks on display gave the impression of a splendid museum.

On my first visit, I was too busy finding a place to hide to view it properly, but it was really, really beautiful.

At the information desk on the first floor, a young girl with Mrs. Marian was waiting.

“Miss Erika, this is Mrs. Marian, who manages the overall affairs of the library. She is called the godmother of the library.”

William introduced Mrs. Marian with a friendly smile. She was a warm middle-aged woman with her dark brown hair pulled up.

I was about to say hello, but she grabbed my hand.

“I heard a lot from the manager. Did you have a lot of heartache during that time? I hope Miss Erika is comfortable in the library.”

“Ah… Please take good care of me, madam.”

Mrs. Marian also introduced her daughter next to her.

“This is Miss Rose. She is a reliable researcher and librarian who is also in charge of the information desk and lends out magic books. You two are around the same age, so you can be friends.”

Rose seemed like a cheerful young girl with wavy blonde hair hanging gracefully. She wore a lace-up green dress, which was gorgeous enough to make it feel like she was at a ball rather than a library.

However, Rose glanced at me from head to toe with an arrogant expression and Mrs. Marian continued.

“She’s a newcomer. Anyways this is Rose Madison.”

“Nice to meet you. Miss Madison. I am Erika Diel.”

“You didn’t have to introduce me to her.”

She spoke to Mrs. Marian and I felt a little dazed.

Is this bullying? Bullying at work?

Seeing her openly arguing in front of her boss, she’s not a normal person. Was there a villain like this in the original?

Before I could even grasp the situation, Rose hurriedly approached me.

“Because I know!”

Her hands raised wildly.
