Chapter Five

"Hey, what is your daughter to you?"

"Why is a mere assassin asking me that?" The Duke raised his eyebrows at her.

"Well, I just want to know since I don't have my biological parents with me. Sometimes, I feel curious. Are you just looking for an heir?" Kai said looking straight into his eyes.

"Nonsense. I can just train one myself. She is not a tool at my disposal."

"Then what is she to you?"

"A treasure I know I shouldn't have but I am greedy. I know she is probably living well already but I still want her to have everything. I want to give her everything I have."

"Then what do you think about meeting her next week."

"What now? Why? When? Where? How did you even get to that point in conversation? Kaizel," Eldrine said wide eyed.

"He brought me to her grave. Mom's. Now that I think about it, why did he bring me there?" Kai pondered.

"Probably to gain sympathy so he can learn more about his unknown daughter. Instead, he got the chance to meet you?" Eldrine shook his face. "Are you going to reveal your alias too? What if he asks your name?"

"I already have a plan in mind. And since I know I'll be busy after that meet, can we go on a week vacation?" Kaizel asked, took of her mask and blinked her eyes trying to look adorable.

"Why is my daughter like this? Come here and let your papa hug you," Eldrine opened his arms for her and she ran into it.

"This is the best place in the whole wide world! I will always come back every time," she smiled as she snuggled closer to him.

"Kaizel, I will let you do what you want but be careful okay? And if you need anything else, I'll be here my love." Eldrine kissed her forehead and she giggled.

"I know. We should also pick up casual clothes to use when I meet him. I want to be comfortable," she said as she looked up at him.

"Let's buy everything you want tomorrow. My treat," he said patting her head. "I should probably go and finish my paperwork first."

"Okay, I'll leave you to it."

A week later, Kai's alibi's were already made. The story was that she was adopted alongside the Knight of Death, her alias. But she didn't want to learn how to kill so Eldrine made her learn academics instead. She works as a secret strategist alongside her other alias.

She let down her long black hair and took off her brown eye contacts. She looked at herself in the mirror and thought that she haven't seen herself in a long time.

She was wearing a dark green turtle neck and a black coat with black pants and a black shoes. Her clothes smelled like ink and paper. The guild made sure to add small details to her cover.

Eldrine saw her off at the Duke's front gate. She introduced herself to the guards. They were skeptical at first but luckily, the butler came and let her in.

"Nice to meet you, My Lady. My name is Ichel. I am the butler here," the old man said.

"Nice to meet you too. Please call me 'K' for the mean time," she smiled.

"Yes, Miss K."

They entered the mansion and it was luxurious. It looked minimalist but each piece in the room was at least more than five million dosos. She would know since Eldrine took her to buy luxury materials for some clients.

"The Duke will be here shortly. Please take a seat and enjoy some tea for the meantime," Ichel said.

"Thank you," she said. "Did the Duke go somewhere today? I could've came another day."

"I'm afraid the Duke wouldn't let you do that," Ichel chuckled at the thought of his master stressing out.

Later, they heard footsteps coming in a hurry and the Duke burst open through the doors.

"Ichel, where is she?!"

"Right in front of you, Your Grace."

He looked down at her sitting at the couch. He stared in amazement at the resemblance oh him and his daughter. She has all the features he had and his wife's green eyes.
