Chapter Four

The carriage pulled up and Eldrine went out to greet it while Kai waited inside putting on her disguise. Eldrine frowned when he saw who it is. Of course it had to be Duke Alaric.

"Duke, Isn't it rude to visit without notice?" Eldrine said ignoring the manners of proper greeting, instead, he glared.

"I know," the Duke glared back with his red eyes.

"What is the purpose of your visit?" Eldrine smiled confidently as if he does not want to acknowledge the Duke's presence.

"I was told I could find the Knight of Death here?" The Duke looked around.

"Meeting them should be discussed in the guild beforehand. Please leave if you have nothing else to do," Eldrine pointed to the gate.

"I know that but I need her now, I can pay a lot of money." Duke Alaric took out a check with a billion dosos in it.

"Even so-"

"What do you want?" Kai said as she opened the door with ther disguise.

"I see money does buy everything." The Duke grinned.

"Kaizel. You don't need to do this," Eldrine gritted his teeth.

"I know but he shows me very interesting choices. You even said so before that I should consider such choices carefully right?" Kaizel smiled under her mask which Eldrine totally knew.

He regretted teaching her about the value of money in that way. He knew he should let her do it because she can take care of himself but her could not help but worry. He watched her grow up from a desperate child to a strong lady. He didn't want to lose to a father who doesn't even know her.

"Do not worry dad. I will always come back to you. I promise," Kai continued.

"That's a deal then. Be careful." Eldrine kissed her forehead and let her talk to the Duke which ended up with her escorting him to a gang raid.

She was about to sit next to the coachman when the Duke invited her to sit with her in the carriage. She refused at first but someone like her could not resist riding a comfortable carriage.

The trip was peaceful until a couple gangsters attacked their carriage.

"It seems news of our raid has already been spread. Kai, if you would kindly-"

"Already done." Kai said and yawned.

"What exactly is your power?" The Duke asked but Kai just stared at him.

"I know that is rude to ask but I am simply curious."

"I have a wind aptitude. It lets me control any type of gas. I usually make people sleep by lowering the oxygen levels in the area. Something like a drug," she shrugged.

"Oxygen levels? Did you study chemistry too?" Duke Alaric smiled as if he was plotting something.

"Yeah. So what?"

"Nothing for you to be concerned about."

"It doesn't seem so. However, I am more concerned about the speed we are going in. At this point, those gangsters in their base would have escaped." She looked out the window and she realized they were in a cemetery.

"I never said we would go to their base. I asked you to come because I needed protection from them because my guards re taking care of it. Today, we are visiting a grave." He smiled and Kai was surprised to see him smile genuinely.

They got out of the carriage and walked to the edge of the mountain and there stood a pretty tombstone with all types of flowers surrounding them. A few she could name: chrysanthemums, orchids, carnations, hydrangeas, dahlias and daisies. All of which were green. And stood at the center was a flower she had never seen before.

"That is Hellebores. A beautiful shade of light green isn't it?"  He kneeled down in front of it and just watched it sway in the wind.

"How did you get them to boom at the same time?" she asked as she looked around.

"I had an alchemist make them for me so they last all year long. You must be wondering who this is." He sat down on the grass.

"I guess so. Who is it?"

"My wife. She loved this spot during summer. Unfortunately, I only found her body fourteen years ago, lifeless. She was holding a piece of paper saying she has a daughter she couldn't take care of. That's why I'm looking for that girl you are hiding."

"Are you sure you should be telling that to me?" Kai sat down beside him.

"I don't think you will get any profit from that."

"Oh you have no idea what I can do with that information."

"You really love money huh?" The Duke chuckled looking up into the sky as if he was sharing this moment with someone else.

"Hey, what is your daughter to you?"
