Slayer Sister pt.1

"Here's your payment." The guild staff said nervously. Her hands were shaking as she handed the reward money for the last demon elimination quest.

As usual, The Slayer just snatched the clip of notes from her hands and was about to walk away, before I could grab his hand.

"Wait."

Both of The Slayer's and the staff's attention turned to me.

"Aren't you forgetting something?" I asked The Slayer.

He stared at me then he shook his head.

I sighed, "Huh~ Say thank you or something would you?"

"Eh, no you don't have to. I'm merely doing my job!" The staff rejected.

"No, don't be like that! If you do, it's just gonna make him worse than now. Come on Mister Slayer, show her some appreciation." I have a threatening glance at him.

He slowly turned around and looked at the staff. He slowly moved his hand towards the staff. She closed her eyes and gripped her skirt.

"Eh?"

She opened her eyes to her astonishment, I could tell. Even her fellow staff members and the other adventurers in the guild dropped their jaws.

The Slayer just patted her head. Then-

"Aah!!" She screamed and shot up.

The Slayer immediately retracted his hand, but he stood his ground. Me, personally, I flinched when she screamed. Was I really not supposed to do that?

Well, too late now I guess.

Perhaps noticing our reaction, she quickly and frantically regained her composure. Her face was red for some reason.

"Err eh, s-sorry about that." She bowed repeated to everyone.

"N-no it's fine. Right, that's settled. Lets go and get some rest Mister Slayer." I grabbed him by the hand and was about to leave.

"Ah, w-w-w-wait! There something for you Mister Slayer!" For some other reason, she was not as nervous as she was when handing over the reward money. "There is personal letter for you. Here." She handed over a letter.

"Huh?" I was mesmerised. Who would anyone send a letter to The Slayer?

The Slayer took the letter and opened it on the spot. Maybe he already knew who it was from.

He unfolded the piece of paper within the letter and read. I tried to steal a peek of the letter. He was tall so I had to stand on my toes to see. He was not bothered though.

I read the letter too.

"Dear Slayer,

If this letter reaches you, it means that you are still well and alive out there. Ehehe, well of course right?

Anyway, I am also well and healthy over here. I hope that you are doing well in your adventures. Though, I already what kinds of quests that you take.

Why not stop by sometime? It gets really lonely when you are not around. Hope to see you soon.

With love, Ail, your... Sister...." My voice trailed off upon reaching the end of the letter.

"EHH?!" I screamed.

It drew everyone's attention in the guild.

"You... You have a sister?!" I was taken by suprise by that fact.

Who knew that someone like him would have a sister. Then again, he is still human nonetheless.

The other adventurers gasped, along with the staffs. I guess it's a first for everyone since he never says anything.

I could hear some of the chatters between the adventurers.

"That guy has a sister?"

"I wonder what she's like?"

"Is she also a brute like him?"

And some other stuff. Honestly, I guess no one would've thought that he would even have any relative as they kept referring him as the devil of humans.

Without caring what I or the others said, he folded the letter back and patted the staff's head again before heading out.

I guess that's just how he says "thank you" now.

The staff stood stiff behind the counter. I bowed to her before catching up with The Slayer.

The next day.

The wagon that we were riding rattled on the dirt road. Crossing over bumps and rocks, as the horses pulled.

The wagon's shade protected us from the summer sun. We were sitting on floor of the wagon as it did not have seats aside from the driver's.

I wore my usual attire, only that I kept my quiver and chainmail in my pack. The Slayer on the other hand still wore his usual blood red armour even his helmet. He put his sword beside him against the wagon's fence while still holding with his hand right hand.

He didn't move an inch ever since we seted off. Was he sleeping? If he was, I won't be able to tell if he doesn't take off his helmet.

I rested my chin on my left hand and stared outside. As I watched the scenery move past our wagon, I recalled on why we were on this wagon in the first place.

"Meeting his sister huh..."

Yes, we were on our way to his home somewhere at the countryside. His hometown, the Barne Village. Off to the west of the capital, the northwest of the town that we stay in.

.........

"Sir, miss, wake up. We have arrived. I'll be dropping you off here."

"Ah? O-oh sorry." I flinched hearing the driver's announcement.

The Slayer had already got down and payed the fee before I could grab my pack and hopped down.

The driver waved us goodbye before heading off on his own.

I turned to The Slayer. "Well, lead the way." I said.

And with him showing the way, we headed to meet with his sister.
