Making friends

"And this is the place you'll be working at, based on your paper. You are assigned to be in our floor. though your desk is near Ms. Gao's. You can do it. Fighting." She encouraged me.

We have been touring for the past 35 or 40 minutes, thanks for the elevator.

I bowed at her as a thank you. "Thank you for touring me around Ms. Gail. I hope we can be friends." I laid my hand out for her to shake. She smiled instantly and shook my hands.

"Sure thing, cutie." She said with the widest smile. I smiled widely and sat at the chair. "I'll log you in to the computer then so you can start your work." Ms. Gail said and opened the computer before doing her work and logging me in.

"Thank you very much Ms. Gail." She nodded and left to do her work. I on the other hand looked at the paper given by Ms. Gao. It says here that my first work is to make a report about the phone or something.

I shrugged and searched the said phone and looked through it. After I find some words that made sense and I connected them.Typing through the keyboard softly. After some time of typing all people stood up.

The person beside me stood up as well. he looked towards me and smiled. He suddenly laid out his hand to me.

"Hi I'm Shin Jiyein. I didn't get to talk to you earlier because you seem busy. Anyways welcome to Tech No company." He said. I smiled back and shook hands with him.

"My name is Yu Mishe. Feel free to call me Mishe." I said. I hesitated to ask him about the employees going out but asked him instead. "Ah Mr. Shin, do you know why the other employees got out just now?" I asked.

He thought for a moment and replied to the question. "Oh it's because it's already lunch time. Maybe you were too cope up with your work you forget to check the time. But that is not a problem." He explained.

"Oh." I nodded understanding his words. I opened my mouth to say something but got city off as I heard Ms. Gail call my name.

"Mishe." We both turned to her as she waved her hands at me and made her way towards our spot.

"Hi Shin. I see you have become friends with Mishe. That's good. considering Mishe is still new maybe you can help him up." Ms. Gail said and smiled at Shin.

I noticed Shin blush and scratched the back of his head. "Ah w-well. Yeah, su-sure. I can help Mishe." He stuttered out. Ms. Gail smiled and ruffled his hair while saying she will go ahead to eat lunch.

"See you two later." Ms. Gail said and left. I turned towards Shin's direction and saw his literally red face. "Shin-ssi. Do you have a crush on Me. Gail?" I asked directly. He looked at me before blushing more. "N-no. o-of course not. I-I just, ah uhmm, a-admire her?" He stuttered out more likely questioned.

I laughed at him and patted his shoulder. "Don't lie Mr. Shin." I said. He huffed and sighed in defeat. "Fine. Yeah, I may have a slightly crush on her." He voiced out. "Little?" I teased. He glared at me before sighing again. "OK fine I like her, Happy? But don't tell anyone." He said.

I nodded my head and smiled widely. "Of course Mr. Shin. I won't lie to you and say Ms. Gail is ugly because she isn't." I said.

His cheeks heated up immediately before lightly punching my shoulder. "You know what? How about I treat you to lunch?" He asked.

I shocked my head and showed him my lunchbox that mom packed for me. "I already have a lunch. You can go first, I'll eat lunch while continuing my work. Thank you for the offer though." I said politely to him.

He smiled and ruffled my hair. "You are too polite kid. Anyways, why don't I just order take out and eat with you? I'm sure you don't mind some company." He stated.

"Of course I don't Mr. Shin. I don't know some people in this company well. Though I talked to some while in the elevator and touring the building it still doesn't compare to you, Ms. Gao and Ms. Gail. Add Ms. Venice to that." I replied.

Shin chuckled and nodded. "Then I'll order now. You can continue your work. I'll be back in 16 minutes or so." The last thing he said and quickly left.

There was nobody left here than me. Though it didn't bother me, it kinda scared me a little. I just shrugged it off and continued with my work.

After some time, Mr. Shin came back with a paper bag. "I hope you didn't wait for long?" He asked. "No it's fine. I'm almost done with my work anyway. Let's eat first Mr. Shin." I said while smiling. He smiled back and sat down at his chair.

I opened my lunch box and got my spoon. Considering I am a half American, I usually use spoon and sometimes chopsticks.

I opened the container and the smell of my meal suddenly hit my nose. "Ey. What is that? It smells delicious." Shin asked.

"Ah yes. Mom mostly cooks this. It's called Lumi." I replied as I dip my spoon in and got some soup before blowing it and eating. I moaned as the taste got in my mouth.

"Can I try?" Mr. Shin asked me with hopeful eyes. I just nodded and laughed when he excitedly picked his spoon and tasted the soup. He smiled widely when the spoon is inside his mouth. "Yummy."

"I know right? I prefer my mom's cooking than some restaurant in Cali before. There are some restaurants there that has tasteless food, and whenever Dad buys some I will always ask mom to re-cook it for us." I explained.

"OH. You've been in California?" Mr. Shin asked. I nodded and took a bite of my meal again. "Yeah. I grew up there. We just moved here last, last year because of my father's parents." I replied.

"We were supposed to leave after their funeral but mom's parents said that it's better if we just stay here, after all I'm also half Chinese." I added. Mr. Shin just nodded and took his food out.

"Ah. So your mom is living in California before which means she's English right?" "Yeah. My mom is American and my dad's a Chinese." Mr. Shin just nodded.

"I also belong to dual nationality. My dad's Korean and my mom's half Chinese half Thai." "Really? Wah, that means you're 1/4 Chinese, 1/4 Thai and 2/4 Korean? Wow." I said.

"I know. It's shocking since people are not aloud in China when they have dual nationality. But I just kept a low profile." Mr. Shin.

We talked for minutes until we finished lunch and some employees got back. "Nice taking to you. I have some work to do now." Mr. Shin said and got back to work.

"Chat to you later Mr. Shin." I said and focused myself onto my work again. Once done I red the whole report and edited some mistakes. "Uh hi." I looked up to see the Sir from earlier that stopped Ms. Gail from squashing my cheeks.

"Hi." I cheerfully greeted him with a smile. He smiled back and laid his hands out. "I'm Ethan. Ethan Crease." I shook his hands and replied "Mishe, Yu Mishe sir." He smiled again.

"Ah, Thank for saving me earlier sir." I quickly added. "No problem. And please call me Ethan. I feel old whenever you call me sir." He said.

"Oh. Sorry Ethan." I said. "It's OK. Anyways, I just wanted to make friends with you." "No problem Ethan. Uh it's nice having someone to be friends with quickly." I said.

"Yeah. If you are busy I'll not bother you then. Let's talk more later?" I nodded and smiled as he waved and walked away.

I got back to work and immediately approved it. I turned towards Mr. Shin. "Sorry to bother Mr. Shin but can you help me print this out?" I asked.

He looked at me and smiled. Of course. Come, I'll teach you." He replied and got to my side. Lucky me the printer is just beside me.

"First let me save it here and then press it here then....." Mr. Shin stood straight and did some things in the computer then went back towards the printer.

I was memorizing his steps as he quickly finished and printed my report. "Here. By the way, what is it for?" He asked.

"Ah it's my first task that Ms. Gao assigned me. It's a report about some phone or something." I replied. "OK but you could've just said that it's a report from Ms. Gao." I laughed in response and shrugged it off.

"Thank you by the way." I said. "No problem." Mr. Shin replied and went back to his work. I looked at the printed report and put it in the table before printing the other part and staplered it.

I made my way towards Me. Gao's office and knocked. Hearing a loud "Come in" I opened the door and immediately saw Ms. Gao.

"Oh Mishe. What brings you here dear?" Ms. Gao asked when she saw my face. I smiled politely and handed her my report. "I finished the work you assigned me ma'am." I replied.

She grabbed the paper gently out of my hand and red it. "You can go first OK? I'll read on your report and let you know what my opinion is."

I nodded and bowed before going out of the door. I headed back in my desk and looked through my Nokia phone. Mom's number flashed through the screen and I quickly answered it.

Me: Hello Mom?

I kept my voice low, not trying to attract or disturb some workers.

Mom: Ah yes. You answered quickly son.

Me: It's because you called in the right time I checked my phone and just finished my work.

Mom: Oh is that so? Have you eaten the food I prepared?

Me: Yeah. My seatmate also likes it.

Mom: Oh. Maybe sometime you can invite them to have lunch with us. You can invite some friends too.

Me: OK. I'll tell them mom.

Mom: Anyways, I actually called to inform you that we'll be part timing again today. You can cook your food for tonight.

Me: Eh? Why so sudden?

Mom: Employees are getting 20% raise if we ever work full-time. So your dad messaged me to tell you.

Me: Oh OK. I understand.

Mom: Maybe this time we can buy you a new phone so that you don't have to always borrow brother Sheng's phone.

Me: Mom it's really not necessary. I can work for it. Besides you'll need the money to buy groceries. I have a lot of friends here."

Mom: If you say so. But we'll still give you some pocket money. No argument.

Me: Fine.

"Attention Mr. Yu Mishe. Again Mr. Yu Mishe please come to my office." Ms. Gao's voice suddenly echoed through the speakers.

Me: Mom I got to go now. I'll see you guys tomorrow. Take care.

Mom: OK. Take care later also. Remember to lock the doors and windows.

Me: Yeah. Bye.

Mom: Bye.

I hang up and got up before making my way towards Ms. Gao's office again. Knocking less than two times I heard Ms. Gao's 'Come in.'

I opened the door and smiled at Ms. Gao. She looked up to me with the same smile.

"Well I have already finished reading your report and you know it's very well explained. I really like the explanation and the way every word gets attention." Ms. Gao said.

I smiled and bowed at her. "Thank God. I was kinda nervous the report didn't make sense. I research some of the sentences there and added my opinion." I explained.

"Yeah I can read it well. You know, you can pass it to the boss. Surely you know the floor and office right? I'll let you pass it to him." My heart pace quickened as I try to calm down.

"Ms. Gao you're making me more nervous. Sir Mei has a very strict policy right?" I asked.

"You're right. He doesn't like people who are not obedient and respectful. He gets mad when people's report doesn't match the theme. The last intern here didn't last for a week or so as her report has mistakes. Although I approved it, he didn't like the report and fired her immediately."

"Not helping Ms. Gao." I said sarcastically. Sh laughed then handed me my report. "You should go. I'm sure it will be OK. I already told boss that you are the one passing your own report. Now go. Shoo." She said and pushed me out of the door.

"Ms. Gao I hate you." I said before she closed the door. "Thank me later." She shouted. I huffed and mad my way towards the elevator.

Gao's Pov

I laughed and sat back at my chair as I heard Mishe huff from behind the door and his footsteps slowly disappeared.

I just laughed and leaned back. "Oh gosh this two. May you bless them Lord God."
