Chapter 4

I woke up the day of my Birthday. The first person who I saw when I woke up was my Aunt Cana. She greeted me a Happy Birthday and gave me the sword I asked for her 2 months ago. It was a great sword and my Name and surname were written on it except there were two letters added to it. I asked Aunt Cana why it has two more letters. My Surname were only D, P and A. But 2 letters were added, C and S.

She only smiled and told me she'll explain everything later. She also asked if I feel okay now. I stretched my arms and told her I was alright now. Actually I feel a lot lighter and full of energy. She felt relaxed and let out a relieved sigh.

"Scarlet dear, this is for you" Aunt Cana handed me a box with a note on it. I placed the sword onto my bed and accepted the gift.

"Aunt Cana two gifts is too mu—"

"It's from your mom dear not mine"

I was speechless. How?

"Your mom left that gift to me and told me to give it to you when you turn 19" I looked at Aunt Cana and she only smiled at me and told me to open it and read what was written in the note. So I did.

I opened the box and saw a very beautiful golden circular locket. I tried opening the locket but it was shut. So I read the note from my mother. I read it in silence as I tried not to cry.

My Dearest Adorable Daughter,

Happy Birthday my princess! I am happy that you finally reached this age my princess. Because it only means you're safe and sound. My daughter I know once you read this message I'm either missing or gone in this world. But know this darling, someday we will meet and we'll finally be together once again. Find your way home dear. And this locket that I have given you will reveal who you really are in the right moment and in the right place.

As soon as I finished reading I felt more and more confused and now doubtful. What does mom mean? Find my way home? Isn't this my home? Or is it? I looked at my Aunt Cana for answer and conformations. But all she said was that they'll explain everything after the Party and that I have to get ready. I wanted to decline that but she begged me and promises she'll explain everything. I nodded. She let a soft smile before hugging and kissing me in my temple.

"I tried everything to protect you dear. But nothing never really worked long enough. I'm sorry for being weak." She whispered to me. I might not know what she meant but I hugged her and calmed her saying I forgive her.

"Aunt Cana you protected me very well aunt. So don't say your weak, you're one of the reasons why I grew up to be the strong women today. You and mom made me what I am today. So I thank you for being with me until today." Without Aunt Cana I wouldn't have a safe adolescent life. So I am thankful to her because she was like my second mother to me. We let go from our hug and Aunt caress my cheeks while smiling.

"Thank you for everything dear, thank you for making me feel like a mother once again" Once again? I was about to asked but the maids knocked and told us that the bath was ready for me. I nodded and aunt excused herself. I went to the bath and took of my clothes and went in the water that was half covered with Ivy and Lily flowers.

I'll just ask what aunt meant later. The maids were the one who scrub and bath me. They always do this every birthday. After I took a bath I was dried and wore a robe for the mean time. We went outside the bathing room and I was told that I needed to sit down because they'll do everything from here on out. I obliged and sat on the chair and every maid their own job to do. One was doing my hair; the other was doing my coloration while the other one was doing my nails. While the rest started to get all the accessories my shoes and the gown I was going to wear.

So basically everything was in a fast pace and in a rush because I woke up late. It took nearly 4 hours to finish preparing myself. Once I was finish I looked myself in the full length mirror that was brought into my room.

"Beautiful"

"What a goddess Lady Scarlet is"

"Stunning"

"Worth the time and effort indeed"

"Amazing"

"Amazing indeed"

Compliment after compliment from the maids I got. I stared at my own reflection. I'll admit they did make me look stunning. My hair was braided and then tied up from behind by a flower tie and they curled the rest that was left before placing pearls to my hair and then they added a golden flower to the side of it. My coloration in my face was toned down, it was just simple yet elegant and the red they chose for my lips definitely complimented how fair white my skin was. The gown that I wore was a simple off shoulder long laced gown that had a flower from the front down to my waist until half end of the gown and gold leaves in my waist that clashed with the lavender flowers placed in it.

It was a simple yet elegant look. The way I always liked it. I looked at the locket my mother had given to me and decided to wear it today. And so I did. The door opened and I saw my aunt who was already ready, she complimented and I smiled and said my thank you to Aunt.

We were ready to meet with the guests that Aunt Cana invited for my birthday. Aunt Cana went inside the hall first. I was told that my name would be called once the party officially started. And so I did wait. The maids offered me a seat and they checked if everything was still fine. I chuckled at how tensed they were. I reassured to them I still looked fine. And then I heard that it was already starting and so I stood up

"Presenting Lady Scarlet Estelle De Prena Arirose"

When my name got called the doors opened and I showed myself to everyone. I heard some gasped in awe and others low voices. I looked at my Aunt who was raising her wine glass at me with a smile. And so I smiled back at her.

I descended down the stairs with elegance and with a lady like etiquette. Once I arrived down the hall I greeted everyone and thanked them for coming to my party and told them to enjoy themselves. And then the music started. My Aunt Cana went near me and once again greeted me a happy birthday. I thanked her.

I was talking to some of my guest when someone called my name. I looked at the direction from where I heard the voice and I saw... the prince.

"Greetings Your Royal Highness," I greeted politely as I bowed to him.

"No need to be so polite to me Lady Scarlet. Raise your head" And so I did. He smiled to me and I gave him a small smile. I excused myself to the guest I was talking a while ago.

"Happy Birthday Lady Scarlet, you look more and more beautiful each time I see you" The prince said and handed his gift, like he usually and always does each year. I heard murmurs from every corner in the hall. I accepted the gift and thanked the prince.

"Prince Thermos, Thank you for the gift and for gracing us with your presence today in my dear niece's birthday" I was startled when I heard my Aunt Cana. Prince Thermos chuckled softly when he saw my reaction before responding to my Aunt.

"I wouldn't miss it for the world Duchess Canaria" He smiled at my Aunt and my Aunt told him that the first dance was about to start and with that I saw the look on the Prince.

"Will you give me your first dance tonight Lady Scarlet?" The Prince said while offering his hand to me has he bowed. And without choice I held his hands and agreed to dance with. The music started and we also started to dance.

"Lady Scarlet, why won't you accept my feeling towards you?" I sighed at his questioned. I always had the feeling that Prince Thermos liked me and I was right. When we were still 16 years old he confessed to me and asked me to be his fiancé. But I and my Aunt declined such offer from the royal family. And it left the whole kingdom in shock for more than 2 years. But it was a good thing Prince Thermos understood but I know he is still in denial.

"I'm sorry, Prince Thermos. But I just don't feel the same way you do towards me. I am deeply sorry. Your Royal Highness" I said while I avoided his gaze. He sighed and we continued dancing until the music stopped. I bowed down when it stop and so did he. As we raised our heads he held my hand and placed a soft kiss atop of it.

"It is alright for you to not feel the same way towards me Lady Scarlet. But always know this, even if I marry another woman you will always be the woman I will truly love." He said and he raised his head he softly smiled at me. And he escorted me towards the side away from the dance floor. It was a good thing Prince Thermos was not that neither spoiled nor hard headed to negotiate with.

And so the party went on normally like it always does. And it was a success. And the party was finally come to a close. And we sent our goodbye to every guest who went home, and especially to the Prince. Once every guest was already gone, Aunt Cana ordered the maids to clean the hall and it was time for her to tell me everything. And when I meant everything I met every single thing. I didn't change my clothes but I did let my braided hair loose and remove the makeup off my face. And I went to Aunt Cana's room where she wanted me to meet. I knocked once and she told me to come in so I did. I closed the door and went near my Aunt. She smiled at me and I saw the book she gave me. The book she wanted me to read. The book I just finished reading a while ago when I was being prepared. She told me to sit next to her in her bed and she took a long and deep sigh.

"Scarlet you said you wanted to know the whole truth right?" Aunt Cana asked while she looked at the book first before looking at me. I nodded as an answered.

"Will you believe me when I tell you that we aren't humans?"
