Episode 5: Distraction

When Todoroki and Deku arrived to the dorms the others' were having dinner already. There was no free spot in the table, so they went to get their food and sit on the couch. Kirishima and Bakugo sat right next to each other in the table facing to the couch so they could see them talking while eating.

Kirishima:

All of a sudden, they became this close, interesting.

Bakugo:

Stupid nerds, they needed to sit so separated from us..

Yaoyorozu:

I didn't know Todoroki had Midoriya as a friend.

Deku: ..... but then I was just sitting there like what should I do?!

Todoroki smiled and looked at him constantly. He realised that someone was watching them so he turned his head to the table and he saw Tsuyu and Uraraka watching them. As he made eye contact with them, they looked away like nothing happened.

Todoroki:

Why are they watching us? I feel like everyone is watchin us. Is that a big achievement? The scarred guy finally finds some friends? Ridiculous.

Deku: ...... are you listening?

Todoroki: Oh, sorry.. What did you say?

**** I zoned out in the middle of the conversation just because I thought that others might have bad opinion about me. I don't deserve his attention if I don't pay any..

Deku: ...... and this is how I managed to solve the problem!

Todoroki sat still and looked at his face but didn't say a thing. He didn't hear it. He turned his face to his plate and he saw that he already ate his dinner.

Todoroki: I.. I am sorry.. I gotta go.

He stood up and put his plate into the dishwasher and went to his room, slammed the door and close it. He layed down in his bed with his head in the pillow and started thinking.

Why am I not able to concentrate. Finally I got a friend and now I need to ruin this by not listening to them when they are talking. I don't even speak. He tried to have a conversation, and talk instead of me but I couldn't even do the very least thing.. Pay attention. I am such a horrible person..

Someone knocked the door. He wasn't ready to talk so he didn't say anything.

Deku: Last time you didn't answer, I ended up seeing you changing your clothes.

Todoroki: I learned from my mistakes, I closed it.

Deku: Do you wanna talk?

Do I want to? I don't know what I want. I was pretty sure that I wanted to be alone and let this go, but now.. He came here to talk to me.. I can't send him away. I don't want him to think I'm cold-hearted..

Deku: I can leave you alone if you would like to..

Uraraka appeared at the end of the corridor and she saw Deku standing in front of Todoroki's room. He was looking at his shoes, like he was desperate. She didn't know what was going on, but she definitely wanted to know. For a second, she wanted to go over Tsuyu's room which is right next to Todoroki's so that she could hear some parts of the conversation, but she tought it wouldn't be the right thing to do. So she ended up opening her room and not to think about this.

Deku heard footsteps and some clicking. Then the door opened. Todoroki was standing in front of him in sweatpants and a baggy T-shirt.

Deku: I see.. You changed it before I could interrupt you.. Genius.

Todoroki smiled and closed the door as Deku entered.

Todoroki: You can sit wherever you want.

Deku: Oh, okay.. I haven't noticed how beautiful is your room.

Todoroki: I just.. furnished it randomly.

Deku: Well.. Everything matches with everything. Mine is simple: Put All-Might stuff everywhere and done.

Todoroki started to laugh and the sat down to his chair in front of his table and he turned to Deku who was standing in front of his bookshelf next to the door.

Deku: I didn't know you like reading.

Todoroki: I used to read in my room, usually at night so.. Not surprising that you haven't seen a book in my hands.

Deku: Well.. It is better to read in a silent and calm environment where no one is bothering.

Todoroki: Right..

It is a now or never situaton.. But I don't think I will be able to share stuff like that..

Todoroki: I am sorry.

Why did I say that? I don't want to talk about it.

Deku smiled and said: It's okay, you don't need to apologise. I saw you were bothered by something. You wasn't even looking at me. I didn't want to make it a big deal. It happens to everyone, right?

Todoroki: Right..

Did he really just say that? He didn't even ask what was going on.

Deku: Don't you like superheroes? There is no comic or even a poster in here.

Todoroki: I do, I'm just not a huge fan of them.

Deku: Must have been a weird illness you are suffering in..

They both started to laugh.

Deku: I loved heroes since I was a little kid. And I wanted to become one when I grow up.

Todoroki: I didn't.

Deku: Why not? And why did you decide to join to U. A. in the end?

Todoroki: Because of my father. I hated everything that he did or what he was. I guess I didn't like heroes because I thought every single one of them is like him.

Deku: Do you have a bad relationship with him?

Todoroki: We only talk when we need.

Deku: Oh.. I am sorry.

Todoroki: Yeah.. What about your father?

Deku: I don't know much about him and my mom doesn't want to talk about it. I don't even know if he's alive or not.

Todoroki: I am sorry.

Deku: Guess this is why I look up to All-Might so much. I needed someone to be my guide.

Todoroki: I had a hard time to find mine.

Deku: Did you find it?

Todoroki: Oh sorry.. I am having a hard time to find mine.

Deku: So you still didn't find it?

Todoroki: Not really..

Deku: Well.. It can be anyone.. Your teachers, your classmates or even yourself.

Todoroki: How could I influence myself?

Deku: If you can see your weaknesses you can work on them and you can change.

He is right, but how can I change them? I don't know any way to solve them.

Deku: Do you like fantasy books?

He always changes topic when it comes to an embarassing topic that I don't want to talk about.

Todoroki: I do. But my favourite is sci-fi.

Deku: That suits you. What about detective ones?

Todoroki: I also have a bunch of them at the top of the shelf.

Deku: Oh I see..

Todoroki: Do you like reading?

Deku: I do, I just don't have books. I mean I have some but.. They are not the cheapest so..

Todoroki: My dad has a hero agency so this is the only reason why I have so much.

Deku started going through Shoto's books and suddenly he stopped for a second. He pulled out one with the title "Fire Resistence"

Deku: Wow.. You have one about heroes! I almost tought you are sick or something.

Todoroki stands up and walks to Deku.

Todoroki: Yeah, I bought this when I was younger.

Deku: It's awesome! Why did you bring it here if you don't like your dad?

Todoroki: He wasn't always like that. It reminds me of those times.

Deku: Oh, that's adorable.

Todoroki: You can have it.

Deku: Oh, I don't want to do any harm to it.

Todoroki: No, I am serious. I just have this on my shelf but I don't read it. It would be better if someone actually read it.

Deku: Really?

Todoroki: Yeah, just take it.

Deku turned to Todoroki as he started smiling.

Deku: Thank you so much, Shoto! - he hugged Todoroki. He hasitated for a second but then he hugged him back and said:

Todoroki: You are welcome.
