Episode 4: Silence

Deku:

He finally got back to the dorms. Almost everyone was in the livingroom. Bakugo, Kirishima, Kaminari and Jiro was playing on the Xbox and as he could see.. Bakugo was about to win.. (surprising, isn't it..) Uraraka, Tsuyu, Yaoyorozu and Hagakure sat on the couch and talking. Sato, Koji, Shoji and Mineta was cooking something for dinner. Tokoyami and Iida were sitting on the sofa reading something.

Seems like they all have fun. I wanted to talk to Bakugo but I am not going to bother him when he is trying to socialize once in his lifetime so I'm going to leave them alone. Earlier I told Todoroki that we could hang out soon. To be honest I had remorse when he caught us talking about something. I didn't want him to feel left out but since it wasn't my secret, I was unable to tell him what was going on. I kinda wanted to fix this. I don't see him anywhere in the livingroom, so maybe it's the perfect time to hang out.

He went to Todoroki's room, hesitated for a second, then he knocked. This time, he answered.

Todoroki: Come in.

When the door opened he was laying in the bed looking at the ceiling with his arms on his neck. He just turned his head to see who's in the door.

Deku: Are you busy?

Todoroki: Do I look like I'm busy?

Deku blushed and took a step forward, while Shoto sit up on his bed.

Deku: Do you want to hang out?

Todoroki: Isn't it too late for a hangout?

Deku: Well.. Sato and the others are making the dinner so we can do something before we eat.

Todoroki: Right.. What do you want to do?

Deku: Well.. I invited you so.. you can choose!

Todoroki: Have you seen me staring at the ceiling like 2 minutes ago, right? I don't think I should choose.

Deku starts laughing. Todoroki smiles.

Deku: Okay, follow me.

They leave his room and Todoroki closes the door. As they are passing the livingroom some of the classmates are staring them curiously, including Kirishima and Bakugo. They walk out to the cold and dark weather and Deku starts walking on the pavement.

Todoroki: Where are we going?

Deku: You will see..

After 15 minutes of walking in silent they arrive to a park near the dorms. Midoriya leads his classmate to a bench right next to a lake under a willow.

Todoroki:

What a beautiful place! I have never been there at night, it is even more fascinating.

Deku: I like this place, it always so calm at night. No one is there, no one is bothering, there is just silence.

Todoroki: Right.. It is better than my ceiling.

They both starts to laugh.

Deku: Do you often go to your room to do nothing?

Todoroki: Basically I have things to do, like homework or workout but.. Today I wasn't feeling good.

Deku: Why not?

Deku looked at Todoroki's face while he was looking at his hands. He hesitated but then he started speaking softly.

Todoroki: I just realised that I don't really have friends but everybody else does and it's just.. Whatever..

Why did I tell that? I supposed to say nothing.

Deku stared at his face for a second but then he tried to cheer him up.

Deku: Well.. You have.

Todoroki looked at him with a questioning face.

Deku: I mean.. I am here.

Did he really say that? Are we friends now?

He still stared at Deku but his face showed some relief. Deku started smiling and turned his head to the lake in front of them and said: You don't need to look at the ceiling anymore.

They both started to laugh.

Todoroki: Right.. I can stare at the moonlight reflecting in the lake.

Deku: I mean.. It is way more interesting than a white wall..

Todoroki: Right..

They sat in silence for a second, and kept staring at the lake.

It is so harmonic and idyllic. Even though we don't talk, I am having fun. I wouldn't be anywhere else right now. Once in my lifetime, I feel like someone actually cares about me and wants to be with me.

Deku: Do you like the silence?

Todoroki: I am always silent.

Deku: Yeah I could experience that but.. Do you like it? Or you just can't make a sound?

What does he mean by that? Can't make a sound? Are we talking about the silence or me being silent?

Todoroki: What do you mean?

Deku: I mean.. I am always surrounded by people, who talk a lot and I also talk a lot, but still.. I like to be in silence sometimes.

Todoroki: I like to be in silence, but I can't make a sound. I don't talk too much.

Deku: Well.. You can't or you don't want to?

Todoroki: Both?

Deku: What do you mean?

Todoroki: I don't want to talk to them because I can't.

Deku: Why can't you?

Todoroki: Because I don't want to.

Deku: Well.. It is hard to talk to you, not gonna lie..

**** that.. I don't want to kill the conversation..

Todoroki: I don't know what can I say.

Deku: You can say anything.

Todoroki: I'll try.

Oh my god it is so embarassing.. I can't even have a normal conversation with someone, why did I ever think that I can have friends one day..

Deku: It's okay.. I wasn't that talkative in elementary school. I used to be the silent Todoroki except I was bullied. You can guess..

Todoroki: Was it.. Bakugo?

Deku nods.

I can't believe that Bakugo used to be like that even in elementary school.. I thought he just hit puberty and wants some kind of attention or something but this.. This is way worse than that.

Todoroki: I didn't know he was like that when he was younger.

Deku: He was.. But I liked him anyways.. He was my first friend. We were together since kindergarten. I just couldn't hate him.

Shoto turned his head to Midoriya but he didn't say anything. When Deku looked at him, he started speaking slowly.

Deku: You don't need to be afraid of not being able to talk. It doesn't matter. I didn't talk to him either. I still consider him as my friend.

Todoroki smiled and looked at Midoriya's eyes. He blushed and smiled back. Todoroki was about to say something when.. Midoriya's phone rang.

Deku: Oh, sorry..

He picked up the phone and Shoto turned back to the river and pouted.

-Hello?

-Oh what's up, have you finished playing?

-Outside, why?

-Why are you not?

-Okay, we are on the way.

-Yes, I'm with Shoto.

-Okay, bye!

Todoroki looked at him with a questioning face.

Deku: The dinner is ready. Let's go back to the dorms.

As we were walking back to the dorms.. I was wondering how could I be so lucky that he noticed I was alone. Nobody did. Not even Yaoyorozu. Do they really think I am cold-hearted? Do they think I enjoy being by myself? Whatever they think.. It can't be so good if they are not talking to me. Except this guy.
