Episode 5: Forged Bonds

(2 days later)

Mr Chen: Good Morning students!

All: Good Morning Sir!

Mr Chen: I’ve graded your math tests from yesterday

Midori: I’m sure I aced this (He adjusts his glasses). What about you Mizuki?

Mizuki: Erm..... (He scratches his head) I’m not so sure (He smiles)

Mr Chen: (He walks to everyone’s desks and slips their test sheets unto their tables) I’ve graded your scores fairly, just in case you feel there’s any injustice towards your score. (He gives a stern look to Midori)

Mizuki: Hey! Midori why’s he looking at you like that?

Midori: It’s something of the past forget about that, what’s your score?

Mizuki: Errr... I got a 55

Midori: Out of a hundred!? Jeez man you gotta start catching up on this stuff?

Mizuki: Hehe, it’s normal. What’d you get?

Midori: As always a 75!

Mizuki: As expected of you! Let’s go ask the girls.

(They walk up to the girls seats)

Mizuki: G’morning girls. We just came by to ask what you got in the math test (He smiles)

Midori: Yeah!

Yumi: Well I got a 65.

Midori: Hah! I surpassed your score easily. What about you Himari?

Himari: I got an 80.

Midori: WHAT!!!, Mizuki do you know what this means?

Yumi: Hah! She passed both of you. Girl power rules. Take that Midori!

Mizuki: What does it mean Midori?

Midori: She’s smarter than both of us at the same time. Don’t you feel embarrassed?

Mizuki: No, not really. Himari has always been smart. (He gives a wide smile)

Himari: What’d you boys get?

Midori: Well I got a 75 and he got a 55.

Himari: Let me guess Mizuki you didn’t study?

Mizuki: Heh! Yep.

Himari: Why?

Mizuki: I’ve been doing a lot of stuff these days.

Himari: Like?

Mizuki: Boy stuff, ya know being 16 isn’t easy.

Himari: Well, I can help you erm.... be your math tutor just to get your grades up a bit, is that okay?

Mizuki: Sure!

Himari: (She blushes but tries to hide it) Okay we’ll start off today after school.

Mizuki: Perfect, today I won’t be doing anything.

Midori: Hey Yumi, do you need some help?

Yumi: (She grabs his collar) DO YOU THINK I’M INCAPABLE OF UNDERSTANDING MATHEMATICS!!!, I DONT NEED YOUR HELP I’LL HELP MY SELF.

Midori: Okay, okay relax it’s okay, no need to get fired up I didn’t mean that (He straightens his shirt) Sorry okay?

Himari: So... see you after school. I think you guys should get back to your seats now class isn’t over.

Mizuki: Okay, Yeah you’re right! Bye. (He waves)

Midori: Let’s go! (He drags him)

(They get back to their seats)

Mr Chen: Excuse me class, I have to attend to some pressing matters please stay seated and keep the class orderly, Thank You!

Mizuki: Isn’t she nice?

Midori: Who? Himari? umm... yeah on a regular day but when she loses her temper she goes ballistic.

Mizuki: Simple solution, don’t get her angry. Speak to her calmly and politely.

Midori: Ummm if you say so. But Yumi on the other hand is a handful, she’s always hitting me or messing up my clothes.

Mizuki: (He chuckles) But it’s funny when you two fight cos you do it a lot. It’s like a comedy show right in front of me.

Midori: Idiot!

(At Yumi and Himari’s desk)

Yumi: I know you’re probably thinking about how polite he is and all that.

Himari: How’d you know?

Yumi: There’s this weird look you have whenever he’s being nice to you or something like that.

Himari: Really?

Yumi: Really!

Himari: Ya know, it’s funny watching you and Midori quarrel. You’re like a mini husband and wife that’s always fighting over trivial matters. You look so cute together. Hehe

Yumi: What? That boy...... and me? Nope. Never. Not ever.

Himari: Why?

Yumi: He’s soooo weird, and obsessed with anime, urgh.

Himari: Like you aren’t weird.

Yumi: Whatever.

Himari: And so what if he’s obsessed with anime and stuff like that, he’s a boy. And everyone has their obsession even you!

Yumi: So what?

Himari: It’s not wrong if he really pays attention to something he finds interesting.

Yumi: Urghhh!

Himari: Don’t worry, I’ll patiently be waiting for you to come around.

Yumi: Hmm? What’s that supposed to mean?

Himari: Forget it. (She smiles)

Yumi: Hey!! What are you hiding?

Himari: Nothing. (She smirks)

Yumi: Hmmm...

(After school)

Himari: Where is he? He’s supposed to be here by now. He’s already 15 minutes late.

Mizuki: Hey! (He pants) Before we start can I get some seconds to catch my breath?

Himari: Fine, where were you?

Mizuki: I went on a little trip.

Himari: Where to?

Mizuki: I ran all the way to Mr Aizawa’s Flower Shop.

Himari: Why?

Mizuki: I got you something, ya know for helping me out. (He pulls out a flower from his backpack)

Himari: (She blushes) You shouldn’t have

Mizuki: I had to, it’s my way of saying thank you, ya know my dad told me that when anyone does something nice for me I should always say thank you and make the person smile. So this is my way, Thank You! (He gives her the flower)

Himari: A sunflower? How’d you know?

Mizuki: I didn’t I just picked the one I felt would go great with your hair. (He collects it and places it in her hair) Perfect!

Himari: Thanks.

Mizuki: Okay, Let’s get to work!

Himari: Alright, Let’s start with the first topic Trigonometry.

Mizuki: Okay, I’ll do my best.

Himari: Firstly we’ll talk about the formulas.

Mizuki: All of them?

Himari: If you want to get a higher score then yes!

Mizuki: Alright!

(An hour later)

Himari: I guess that’s all for today, we’ll be meeting every Monday, Wednesday and Friday in the library okay?

Mizuki: That’s nice. I guess I’ll be walking you home today since Yumi isn’t here

Himari: But you don’t even know where I live.

Mizuki: Doesn’t matter, I’ll find out today.

Himari: Okay, let’s get going then.

(They leave the school)

Himari: Oh My God! It’s already 4pm. My parents are gonna freak.

Mizuki: There’s no problem just tell them you were busy in school.

Himari: Hm. What about you Mizuki, I’ve never heard you talk about your parents.

Mizuki: They travel a lot so they’re not really at home most of the time, ya know business matters and all that. So there’s not really much to talk about.

Himari: So you live alone?

Mizuki: Ermm... Kinda but most times Midori comes over and he’s like the brother I never had. But sometimes I visit my grandpa at the Senior Citizen’s Home.

Himari: Oh, that’s great!

Mizuki: How close are you and Yumi?

Himari: We’ve been bestfriends from as long as I remember

Mizuki: Like since childhood?

Himari: Sort of, Yes.

Mizuki: That’s great, bonds like that are said to last for a lifetime.

Himari: Yep. So how long have you and Midori been friends?

Mizuki: Ermm... We became friends like 7 years ago when he moved from his previous house to like 3 houses before mine so we basically lived on the same street and stuff like that. We had lots of stuff in common and our parents were friends so we had lots of play dates and we became best friends.

Himari: That’s awesome, Well I guess this where your journey ends Mizuki.

Mizuki: Whaddya mean?

Himari: We’re already at my house.

Mizuki: Huh? Already?

Himari: I guess you lost track of time as you were sharing yours and Midori’s friendship story.

Mizuki: Heh, I guess so. We’ll see ya I gotta run home!

Himari: (She waves) Byeee.

Mizuki: Byeeee! (He runs without looking forward and hits his head on a pole) Owwww!

Himari: (She laughs) Look where you’re going next time okay dummy?

Mizuki: Hehe, Alright!
