Mia Wright
Wiping my sweaty hands, I glanced up at the tall building in front of me nervously. It alone was enough to intimidate anyone.
It was times like this that I wish my mother hadn't been so overprotective of me. I was never allowed to socialize, have any friends, or do things most girls did growing up.
I had been homeschooled by my mother by whole life . Only time I got to speak to anyone was in stores but even then, I was made to wear my hood.
I never understood why she kept me so isolated and always thought she was hiding something from me.
I finally decided to walk into the building and straight to the clerks desk in the lobby.
Mia Wright
Hello, can you please tell me which floor the design department is on?
CLERK
Hmmm, you have to sign this contract with the company before you can start
CLERK
I'm also required to go over the main 4 rules in this company to make sure you are clear on them
CLERK
1.) Dont ever use the presidential elevator at any time, it's not for employee use
CLERK
2) Don't ever be late for work, it will not be tolerated
CLERK
3) Never talk to the CEO unless one of them speak to you first
CLERK
4) You are to address them as Mr. President
CLERK
Do you have any questions Miss Wright?
CLERK
Then sign this paper saying you read the rules and agree to them
CLERK
Go down the hall to your left and take the elevator to the sixth floor, that's where the design department is
Mia Wright
okay, thank you
I breathed a sigh of relief when I finally spotted the elevator, pushed the button, and rushed inside quickly
I was standing inside waiting for the elevator to close when I happened to look up and see a man standing in the lobby staring strangely at me as the elevator door shut.
For some reason, that man's stare sent chill down my back
Arriving to the sixth floor, I set out to find the managers office to introduce myself and let him know I was there
MANAGER
Oh, you made it Miss Wright, please read over our guidelines and fill out the paperwork and you're good to go
MANAGER
Come with me and I'll show you where your desk will be
Mia Wright
Sir, I just noticed it says we don't get lunch breaks here
MANAGER
That's correct, you are expected to work while you are here
Mia Wright
So they expect us to work properly without lunch?
MANAGER
Each floor has its own break room that equipped with food, snacks, and beverages to purchase or you can bring a lunch from home but you are required to eat at your desk while you work
Mia Wright
That sounds kind of harsh
MANAGER
The presidents are very strict with time frame, they also take their lunches at their desk
Mia Wright
Still seems kind of cruel, everyone needs a break at some point, thats what keeps businesses running
MANAGER
Here is where your desk will be.
MANAGER
Please keep in mind that if the presidential elevator opens, all employees must stand in respect of greeting them
Mia Wright
You make them sound like royalty
MANAGER
They are royalty in the city and known far and wide
Mia Wright
I was taught in order to get respect, you have to give it yourself
MANAGER
Not here, you are never to interrupt when they are speaking and always raise your hand if you have a question for them
Mia Wright
It sounds more like school instead of a job 🙄
MANAGER
I'll leave you to your desk Miss Wright,
please have your paperwork turned in before you leave
Mia Wright
I will, Thank you
Mia Wright
Is it alright if I go tell my godmother hello and Thank her for helping me get this job?
MANAGER
Yes, just be quick about it, work starts soon , I should have put your desk near hers.
Sorry
Mia Wright
Oh that's fine, I'll find it, thank you sir
