The helicopter leveled out, and the city lights snapped back into focus. Jack's eyes locked onto the crystal orb, still clutched in Aria's hand. He couldn't help but wonder what secrets it held, and what kind of power it truly possessed.
Aria's voice cut through his thoughts. "We need to get the orb to a secure location. Our client will be expecting us."
Jack nodded, his mind racing with possibilities. "Where's the meet?"
Aria pulled out a small device and projected a holographic map of Tokyo's waterfront. A location marker pulsed on the display.
"Pier 17," Aria said. "Our client wants to meet at midnight."
Jack's eyes narrowed. "That's a pretty public place for a handoff."
Aria's smile was cryptic. "That's what makes it perfect."
The helicopter banked again, heading towards the waterfront. Jack's instincts were screaming that something was off. He glanced at Aria, but her expression was unreadable.
As the helicopter touched down on the rooftop of a nearby building, Jack's phone buzzed. He hesitated, then answered.
"Nova," a voice said, familiar yet unexpected. "I see you're still working with Aria. You know she's playing both sides, right?"
Jack's grip on the phone tightened. Who was this guy, and what did he want?
The voice on the other end continued, "Meet me at Pier 17 if you want to know the truth."
The line went dead. Jack's eyes locked onto Aria, who was watching him with an intense gaze.
"What?" she asked, her voice low.
Jack's smile was tight. "Just confirming our meeting."
Aria raised an eyebrow but said nothing. Jack's mind was racing. Who was he supposed to trust? The mysterious voice or Aria?
The game was about to get a lot more complicated...
Jack's eyes never left Aria's as he replied, "Yeah, everything's fine." He didn't want to tip her off, not yet. His mind was racing with questions. Who was the mysterious voice, and what did they mean by Aria playing both sides? Was this a setup, or was Aria genuinely on Jack's side?
The helicopter's rotors slowed, and the pilot's voice came over the comms system. "We're here, agents. Extraction point is secure."
Aria nodded, tucking the crystal orb into a secure pouch on her belt. "Let's move. We don't want to keep our client waiting."
Jack followed Aria out of the helicopter, his senses on high alert. They made their way to the stairwell, descending into the darkness of the city's underbelly. The air was thick with the smell of saltwater and diesel fuel.
As they reached the bottom of the stairs, Aria's pace slowed. "Stay sharp, Nova," she whispered. "We don't know what we're walking into."
Jack's hand instinctively went to his gun, his eyes scanning the shadows. "I've got your back, Aria. Let's do this."
Together, they stepped out into the night, the neon lights of the city casting long shadows behind them. The game was indeed getting complicated, and Jack was ready to play.
