Chapter 4: The Sanctuary(Part 1.1)
Anya climbed the massive tree, her hands finding purchase on the rough bark, her feet seeking out sturdy branches. The climb was strenuous, but she was fueled by a mixture of adrenaline and curiosity. She had to know what awaited her at the top.
The plant-like creature moved with an effortless grace, its form blending seamlessly with the tree. It seemed to be guiding her, pausing occasionally to ensure she was following. Anya felt a strange sense of trust in this being, a feeling that grew stronger with each step.
As she climbed higher, the jungle floor receded below, revealing a breathtaking view of the island. The sun was setting, casting long shadows across the landscape.
The ocean shimmered in the distance, a vast expanse of blue that stretched to the horizon. Anya felt a sense of awe, a feeling of insignificance in the face of this vast, ancient world.
Finally, they reached the platform. It was larger than Anya had anticipated, a circular space woven from branches and vines, adorned with glowing flowers and strange, luminous fruits. In the centre of the platform stood a small hut constructed from the same materials.
The creature gestured towards the hut, then stepped aside as if inviting her to enter. Anya hesitated for a moment, then took a deep breath and stepped onto the platform. The surface was surprisingly firm, the woven branches and vines providing a stable base.
She approached the hut, her curiosity piqued. The entrance was a simple opening, covered by a curtain of woven leaves. Anya reached out and pushed the curtain aside, stepping into the dimly lit interior.
The hut was small but surprisingly cosy. The walls were lined with soft moss, and the floor was covered with a thick layer of leaves. In the centre of the hut, a small fire burned in a stone hearth, casting a warm glow. A figure sat beside the fire. it's back to Anya.
"Welcome, Anya Sharma," a voice said, soft and melodic.
Anya gasped. The figure turned, and Anya found herself staring into the face of… a woman?
The woman was unlike anyone Anya had ever seen before. Her skin was the colour of jade, her eyes glowed with an inner light, and her hair was a cascade of vines and flowers.
She wore a simple robe woven from leaves, and her hands were adorned with intricate tattoos that seemed to writhe and shift like living things.
"Who…" Who are you?" Anya stammered, her mind reeling.
The woman smiled. "I am the Guardian of this island," she said. "And you, Anya Sharma, are the key to its salvation."
