Chapter 5

???

I woke up to the feeling of a soft pillow under my head and a thin blanket covering me.

I was in bed, but this wasn't my bed.

My eyes snapped open to see I was in a large dimly lit room, I shot up into a sitting position.

A pain in my side instantly made me regret the sudden movement I made. Holding my hand over my side I felt the bandages that covered the painful spot.

A sense of dread came over me as I realized I wasn't dreaming. I had crossed worlds and ran away from home.

Those who I ran away from are probably furious with my betrayal but I am much more scared of my current situation, I was in a entirely new world, and the last time any of my kind were here they were either killed or driven back to our home dimension. I was on a potentially hostile enviroment. Alone.

I looked around the large open room. It seemed to be some kind of infirmary, three beds were spaced out on the opposite side of the room and two were on my side of the room. Medical supplies such as bandages and gauze were sitting on the small table in the opposite corner of the infirmary, next to what looked like a cabinet. On my left there were two giant wooden doors, no doubt the exit. On my right at the opposing side were two giant curtained windows.

Two of the beds in the room seemed to be occupied, but curtains were drawn around them for privacy.

There was no guards inside the room luckily, but there was more than likely some outside the door.

At least I wasn't dead or in a prison cell. For now.

I tried to recall how I had gotten here. I remember running away and jumping through the portal, Then once on the other side I watched it close behind me.

I faintly remembered someone calling out for me to 'watch out', after that its all a blur.

Looking at my bandages I could easily tell I had been worked on by a doctor or healer. At least it was professionaly done and I wouln't have to worry about an infection, unfortunately I have no idea how bad the wound is, but by the pain I feel, I can tell its not good.

Quietly I swung my legs over the edge of the bed. I had to get out of here before someone finds out im awake and they do god knows what to me.

Due to my peoples history with humans, and other species, I'm sure they'll have no problem killing me or doing something much worse.

My side hurt but it was more a blunt pain, probably due to some kind of medicine they gave me.

I looked at my bag that was attached to my hip, it now laid on the small table beside my bed, along with my cloak and corset.

I grabbed my bag and looked through it, my stuff was still inside, of course all I brought was some old human currency called coins.

I found these coins while exploring my home, they were more like antiques to my people and quite useless, I only hoped they were worth something here.

Besides the small bag of coins I carried a small dagger, two fruits, a ration bar, and...

My gut twisted into a knot. The necklace, it was gone.

I looked all over my person and the small space I occupied. Nothing.

This was bad. That necklace was the key to the portal between my world and this one, now it was lost to me, and if someone used it to open the portal again...

The color drained from my face.

My escape would have been for nothing, and this world could perish.
