Daniel (still in Sam’s body) stood in line, tray in hand, scanning the food like a warrior studying an enemy.
Rice, curry, noodles… and one golden, crispy samosa left.
He smirked. “Mine.”
Just as he reached for it, another hand grabbed it — quick and confident.
“Excuse me,” a sharp voice said. “That’s mine.”
He looked up.
A girl stood there - toned brown skin, long braid, bright eyes that could cut glass. Her accent had the soft rhythm of Hindi.
The name tag on her uniform read: Sera Ahmed
Daniel blinked. “You sure? I saw it first.”
She scoffed. “You saw it, I grabbed it. Welcome to the food chain.”
He chuckled. “You’re feisty.”
“Feisty?” she crossed her arms. “You mean assertive.”
Daniel raised an eyebrow. “I mean dangerous.”
The students behind them whispered. “A new girl is already arguing with Sam?”
“Whoa, she’s brave.”
Sera noticed and frowned. “You done staring or you want an autograph?”
Daniel leaned closer, amused. “Depends — do you sign on napkins or hearts?”
Her eyes widened. Then she smacked his tray with a spoon.
“You’re flirting over a samosa? Get a life!”
The cafeteria burst into laughter. Daniel grinned.
Oh, this world’s more dangerous than the last one.
Later, they both got sent to the library — punishment for “disruptive behavior.”
Sera groaned, sitting across from him. “Can’t believe I got detention in my first week.”
Daniel shrugged. “I can. You've got the main characters energy.”
She glared. “You think this is funny?”
He smiled lazily. “A little. You remind me of someone.”
“Your ex?” she shot back.
“Worse. My mirror.”
She rolled her eyes but couldn’t hide a smile. “You’re weird, you know that?”
“Yeah,” he said quietly, flipping a book open. “Been told that… lately.”
Sera studied him for a moment. “You’ve changed, haven’t you?”
Daniel looked up. “Excuse me?”
“I heard from others. You used to be lazy, loud, and always half-asleep. But now you talk like some… old philosopher.”
Daniel chuckled. “Maybe I had a long dream and woke up differently.”
She tilted her head. “Or maybe you’re hiding something.”
For a second, her words hit too close. He froze.
Sera smirked. “Relax, I’m joking. You look like a guy who reads manga at 3 a.m. and cries over sad endings.”
Daniel looked away. She’s not wrong.
The rain hit just as detention ended. Students ran for cover.
Daniel stood under the roof, watching drops fall.
He sighed. “Didn’t bring an umbrella.”
“Here,” Sera said, holding hers up halfway. “We share.”
He blinked. “You sure? Thought I annoyed you.”
“You did. But I hate seeing people drenched.”
They walked side by side, and the umbrella tilted between them. The rain made everything softer — the light, her voice, his heartbeat.
“So, Sera,” he asked quietly. “Why’d you transfer here?”
She looked at the sky. “Dad’s job. We move a lot. India, Singapore, now here. Feels like… I’m always the new page in someone else’s story.”
Daniel smiled faintly. “That sounds familiar.”
She glanced at him. “You too?”
He nodded. “Yeah. Maybe we’re both lost chapters.”
A pause. The sound of rain filled the silence.
Then Sera said softly, “You’re not what I expected, Sam.”
Daniel chuckled. “I get that a lot.”
Her fingers brushed his hand — just slightly. He froze.
“Cold?” she asked.
He shook his head. “No. Just… human.”
She didn’t understand what he meant, but she smiled anyway.

That night, the link between the two boys pulsed again.
Sam’s voice echoed in Daniel’s mind.
“Bro, you won’t believe this — Princess Eira made me tea. Like royalty tea! I think she smiled at me.”
Daniel smirked. “Congratulations. I got hit with a spoon by a girl over a samosa.”
Sam laughed. “Wait, you met someone?”
“Yeah,” Daniel murmured. “Sera. She’s… loud. Honest. Kind of like thunder before rain.”
“Ooh, sounds like love’s brewing.”
Daniel frowned, but couldn’t hide a smile. “Maybe… or maybe she’s a storm I shouldn’t chase.”
Sam’s tone softened. “We’re both chasing storms, aren’t we?”
Daniel looked out his window, where the rain still fell. “Maybe. But for once, I don’t mind getting wet.”
And somewhere across worlds, two hearts — one noble and one ordinary — began to beat the same quiet rhythm.
