Jealousy in full bloom

The episode opens with morning homeroom. Hikari struts into class as usual, glossy lips shining, bracelets jingling. But her mood dips instantly when she notices Renji—at his desk with Mizuki, heads close together, quietly going over notes. Hikari freezes in the doorway.

Hikari (inner monologue):

“…Glasses-kun? With her?”

She bites her lip, then storms over dramatically, slamming her bag onto her desk so hard everyone jumps.

Renji

(startled)

“M-Momose—!”

Hikari

(forcing a grin, leaning close)

“Wow, Aozora-kun~! Didn’t know you liked studying this much. Guess someone’s been cheating on me with… textbooks.”

The class chuckles. Mizuki flinches slightly but remains composed, offering Hikari a polite smile.

Mizuki

“…We were just reviewing formulas. Aozora-kun asked me for help.”

Hikari

(voice sharp, eyes narrowing)

“Oh? Funny, I thought I was his tutor.”

The tension is thick. Renji panics, trying to defuse it.

Renji

“N-no, it’s not like that! I just—”

Hikari

(cutting him off, pouting)

“Ugh, whatever. Glasses-kun, you’re sitting with me today. C’mon.”

She grabs his sleeve and drags him across the room, glaring back at Mizuki. Mizuki stays quiet, eyes lowering, but her hands tighten around her pencil.

Later—lunch break on the rooftop. Hikari sits across from Renji, aggressively stabbing her bento with chopsticks.

Renji

(nervous)

“Momose… you’re… mad?”

Hikari

(avoiding his eyes)

“Why would I be mad? It’s not like my… my study buddy needs me anymore. You’ve got Arai-chan now, right? Smart, quiet, cute little honor student.”

Renji stares, surprised. Hikari’s glossy lips tremble slightly; she’s clearly jealous but refuses to say it outright. He sets his chopsticks down.

Renji

(softly)

“…That’s not true. I—I want you around. Even if you don’t take notes… or remember formulas… I’d rather have you with me.”

Hikari freezes. Her cheeks flush pink. She looks away quickly, brushing her hair back to hide her face.

---

Hikari

(muttering)

“…Idiot Glasses-kun… Don’t say stuff like that so seriously.”

But inside, her chest swells. She can’t stop the tiny smile tugging at her lips.

---

Cut to after school: Mizuki watches from the library window as Renji and Hikari walk home together, Hikari clinging to his arm, laughing loudly. Mizuki’s face is calm, but her fingers clutch her notebook tightly.

Mizuki (inner monologue):

“…So it really is her. Even so… I won’t back away.”

The screen fades to black with Mizuki’s determined eyes reflecting the sunset.
