A joke

"Why don't I give him a call instead? Perhaps he might really want to see me?" Without waiting she dug out her phone and began dailing his number.

First ring, Second ring, third, fourth and fifth. A consecutive five calls and yet none of them was picked.

Coincidentally she looked up right in time to catch the contemptuous look that flashed past the Security guards face.

The alarm bells in her head went off all at once.

With the last of her pride, she forced a smile and said "it seems he really is busy. I would come back another time"

The man hummed half-heartedly and didn't even bother to say anything else. Like a wet dog, Ariyah dragged herself away from the entrance but she didn't completely leave, once she got to the bend at the end of the street, she hid in a corner and kept watching the entrance of the house from there.

She was curious. No anxious and restless to knowing who it was that has warranted her getting such a treatment. She had gotten a glimpse of the girlish car parked at the parking lot in front of the villa but had no clue who it was that was inside the house, so she would wait. Wait till that person comes out and she could see who this person threatening her relationship was.

Seconds turned to minutes and finally the gate wound open. A purple Bugatti Veyron Super sport car drove out of the compound. At the same time A black cayenne rushed into the street. It had flashed by Ariyah so swiftly but she immediately knew who it was driving the car. It was none other than her Boyfriend, Nate.

He rushed forward and blocked the path of that purple car with his.

Standing at the side. Ariyah watched his alight from the driver's seat and march to that car. He knocked on the driver's window but got no response.

After a few minutes the door opened and a beautiful young lady stepped out.

Ariyah's face tightened at the sight of the girl. How could she have forgotten about this girl?

Willa Todd!

Only child to the Todd family and childhood best friend of Nate William.

If there was anybody that could push her existence to the side, it was definitely this girl. Jealous bubbled up in her heart. It changed to panic when she saw the girl lurch into Nate's arms with a tear stricken face.

She continuously reminded herself that they were just best friend and there was nothing else but the successive cordial interaction between the two people caused her to jump out of her hiding place. Before she could stop herself, her feet had already walked up to the two people cuddled up on the street.

Big mistake!

Due to their standing position, Willa was the first to notice her. She lifted her tear filled eyes and stared at Ariyah in confusion.

"Ariyah?" They attended the same school and were in the same grade although different classes yet this was the first time they were ever seeing each other at such a close proximity but somehow they both knew who each other was.

One was the childhood best friend and the other the legitimate girlfriend yet it was funny how their positions were ironically switched. Ariyah was the one standing at the side like a stranger while the best friend was snuggled in her boyfriends arms like a lover.

How could her heart not clench at this sight. The panic and insecurity, she had struggled to suppress was starting to overflow.

At the mention of her name, Nate turned around and their eyes met. Nate was shocked to see Ariyah at the place, still he didn't move to hide or push the woman away from him. He just readjusted his hand to rest on Willa's shoulder, removing her from his arms with half her figure still in his grip, whilst keeping this calm look on his face. The woman sheltered in his arm pouted a little and moved to dey her wet face before facing Ariyah with an elegant smile.

"Finally we get to meet face to face Ariyah. It's nice to meet"

Nice to meet her?

Ariyah tried to return the compliment but her voice was croaked making the words come out weirdly.

"I don't know you were coming over I would have stayed inside a little more rather than come out here in a mess" she chuckled wryly but Ariyah wasn't in the mood to humour her with words.

She would have stayed inside?

Is that what she was supposed to say? It should have been that she would not have come but she... Doesn't she know her words make her sounds obnoxious. Ariyah became displeased.

Talking about being a mess, compared to her whose hair was dry and styled, clothes neat and couldn't be more tidy, and face still covered in a fabulous make up, Ariyah whose dress was ruffled and wet, shoes muddy and worn and hair disheveled looked more of a mess than she could ever be.

She looked like a Joke!

"I only came to check up on Nate. I called but you didn't pick up so I was worried" the last part of the sentence was meant for Nate. Ariyah looked at him hoping to see an apologetic look surface after knowing he missed her calls but there was nothing.

So he had deliberately not picked them up.

Why? Because he was rushing over to come console Willa or because he didn't want to speak to her?

Her heart broke.

Nate turned to the her and said "I was going to call you after I was less busy"

Ariyah was even more surprised, she thought he would at least try to cover up but he...he...

Less busy?

Ha! She should have known.

She thought he loved her? he had always been so loving towards her so why is that when Willa comes into the picture she was no longer a priority? Didn't he like her anymore? Did he love Willa more?

She got so angry that she wished she could shout and pull at Willa's hair but she knew doing just that would make her look like a shrew so she bottled up her anger and instead choose to showcase her understanding side.

"I understand. I was going to wait for you to call, since you weren't at home anyway" Her eyes was in affection. She wished her feelings could penetrate his heart and melt away every confusion clouding his mind. Her fingers dug into her palms when he stayed mum.

"Since I've seen you, I'm no longer worried. I would go back now" she turned and immediately began to walk away, she could not stay here any longer. Only God knows how she had managed to keep her composure till now.

"Ariyah wait!" That feminine voice called out.

Ariyah halted. But didn't immediately turn back.

Why was Willa stopping her? Was she trying to display her Dominance over Nate or was she trying to humiliate her further?

"Actually Nate was going to throw a party for me to celebrate at the club later tonight, if you're not to busy, then you can drop by" Smooth and innocent. With such a tone, it would be hard for one to hold her words against her, especially since it was hard to tell if she purposely said the words she said to get on others nerves.

Nate was going to throw a party for her?

That piece of information was enough to cause the displeasure in Ariyah's heart to turn to spite.

If he was going to be busy all night celebrating with Willa then when was he supposed to be 'less busy' enough to give her a call? The next day?

The tears Ariyah was fighting to hold back threatened to pour out of her eyes. She loved him way too much and although he had always reciprocated her feelings, it was hard to not see that in truth, his attention was divided. Considering that fact, she had tried to stick to him as much s she could just so she could always be the only one in his heart.

What stupid thought she had!

It seems she was losing before the battle even started.

There would always be this annoying childhood best friend!

In a way Ariyah blamed Willa. If she wasn't so clingy, not knowing the difference between male and female relationship then Nate would have long been able to solve the confusion in his heart but Willa was always there to keep getting him confused without putting a clear demarcation in their relationship.

It ended tonight!

"Sure I'll be there. What club is it?" She made up her mind instantly

"Blossom" Willa answered gleefully.

Blossom?

Ariyah was once again soddened with chills. Isn't that club famous for love confessions? Was he going to confess his feelings tonight?

"I'll definitely come celebrate with you" she said through clenched teeth then turned around and left before anyone could retract the offer of her invite.

As she walked down the road, her fingers dialled the only person she knew could help her at the moment.

"Sister!" A tingly melodic voice erupted from the speaker.

"Quinn where are you? Please I need your help" she spat out hurriedly, already crying her eyes out.
