Chapter 4 – Tom’s Hidden Battle

Chapter 4 – Tom’s Hidden Battle

The penthouse felt cold, despite the city lights glowing through the large windows. Tom’s hands trembled slightly as he adjusted his blazer, pretending to check his reflection in the mirror. He had spent years perfecting this calm, confident mask — the one fans and media saw — but tonight, it barely held together.

Alex had been relentless lately. More demands, more manipulations, more reminders that Tom owed him everything. And Tom wanted out. He wanted to break free. But every time he tried, the fear of losing his career, his fame, his carefully built image, tethered him back.

He paced the room quietly, alone, whispering to himself: I have to do this. I have to survive… I can’t let him win.

The tremors in his body weren’t just fear. They were exhaustion, frustration, and grief. Losing his father, relying on Uncle Eti, navigating an industry that never stopped — all of it weighed heavily. Alex had become more than a manipulator; he had become a shadow over Tom’s life, one that crept into every room, every conversation, every thought.

Tom clenched his fists, trying to will the trembling to stop. In the mirror, he saw the actor the world adored — smooth, composed, untouchable. But inside, he was a boy of twenty, terrified and alone.

He wished desperately for someone to notice, someone to intervene. A friend who could understand, who could reach past the fame, past the facade. Someone who could heal him.

But no one did.

The phone buzzed. Another message from Alex: “Don’t forget who made you, baby. Tonight.”

Tom stared at it for a long moment, his pulse racing. He wanted to scream, to throw the phone across the room, to vanish from the city entirely. But he didn’t. He typed back a short, calm message: “Okay.”

Inside, his heart ached. Every word, every breath felt like a lie. Every action he took was survival, every nod was compliance. Yet, despite everything, a flicker of hope persisted somewhere in his chest.

Someone will notice. Someone will help me. Someone will see the real me…

He took a deep breath, forcing the tremors to settle, straightened his blazer, and stepped into the living room where Alex waited. The smile on Tom’s face was smooth, effortless — the smile the cameras would have loved, the smile the world expected. But inside, Tom felt like he was shattering.

He would endure tonight. He would act as though everything was normal. And somewhere, in the quiet of his mind, he allowed himself one fragile hope: that one day, someone would come and heal him.

The city outside continued to buzz. Lights flickered. Cars honked. The world moved on, unaware of the private battle raging in the penthouse, a battle that Tom had fought quietly for far too long.

And inside, a boy of twenty trembled — hidden beneath the mask of a star.
