CHAPTER 4

                              JENNIFER

I am giving my email to find what I can from the evidence I got from the request I made to the head department. The thing of the killer and the victim. The victim's belongings, including the photos of the crime scene, and the first witness's report. I don’t get what I am looking for anymore. When wasas bout to close the box, my eye caught on something. I took it and its necklace. But that's not what caught my eye. It's something else. I took my phone and called one of my friends who was working in the Francie department. I called him, and within two rings he answered me.

“What SI Ma’am. You are calling me?”

“Aathi!”

“Then what ma’am. You have been so busy that you forget one idiot waiting for your calls and texts.”

“Sorry.”

“So? I know you aren’t calling me because you missed me.”

“You know me more than anyone, Aathi.”

“So”

“I want you to test a small object for me. Can I meet you today?”

“I am now out of the city; I will reach tomorrow night. Is that ok for you?”

“Thank you, Aathi.”

“You know I will do anything for my fiancé.”

“Thank you, Mr Fiancé.”

***I hung up, then stared at the small bag in my hand.  ***

I reached the place where the next person I am going to integrate around 2 P.M. I looked around to see where that person was sitting. When I found it, I walked towards there. I sat in front of the person.

“Hi, Jennifer.”

“Aathirai”

“So, Aathirai, if you don’t mind can I record our conversation?”

“Sure.”

“Thank you.”

I take out my recorder and press the button, then sit straight, putting both my hands on the table.

Jennifer: Can you tell me how you know Ragul?

Aathirai: He is my classmate from high school.

Jennifer: Can you tell me about how Ragul was with his friends?

Aathirai: He is a nice guy who wants to be friends with and wants to be a girlfriend. He always put others first before himself.

Jennifer: So, Aathirai, do you know about the incident that happened on the inter-university sports day six years back?

Aathirai: That is the only thing my friends and I don't understand why he did it like that. And when we tried to talk about it, he said he was sorry. And we don’t want to make him upset more than he already is.

Jennifer: Did he do anything strange?

Aathirai: No.

Jennifer: Do you know if he was dating anyone?

Aathirai: No, Ragul hates it when people act so lovely dovely in front of everyone and end up parting ways.

Jennifer: Do you know anything else about his personal details like their parents can’t tell me?

Aathirai: He is open with his parents. He is a good son that every parent wants. He is a friend if you want a friend to cry, he is a consulting person if you want to make you mentally confident, He is a good brother when it comes to protecting. He is a good and friendly son to his parents. My parents sometimes tell me that if we were not friends from childhood, they would have married us.

Jennifer: Thank you for your time, Aathirai.

Aathirai: I am glad I can help with it; you can reach me whenever you want.

I stayed there after Aathirai left. I let my thoughts run widely in my mind, staring at the boys who are playing basketball on the basketball court. A tall boy scores

While the other one is trying to stop him from galling.

***                    -----------------------------------------------------------------------***

My brother and I are playing tennis while our parents sit in the backyard, talking about random stuff, and our parents talk about their kids. My brother serves the ball while I push myself up to hit the ball, but I missed it and as a result, I sprained my ankle while my brother laughed at me, holding his stomach. I hate to say but I love to see him smiling without any care about this world. My dad smacks his head picking me up from the ground, while my mom twists his ear. Soon he leaves for his military training.

***                        --------------------------------------------------------------------***

I come back to my apartment; I showered and lay on my bed closing my eyes.

  “I hate you"

“I know that and I hate you too running nose”

“I want to play it”

“It's not for you running nose”

“Don’t call me like that in front of others you idiot”

“Run……Run Jeni……Run”

I opened my eyes, sweating heavily; I took my phone and checked the time. It was 4:44 A.M. I removed the blanket from me, then put my legs on the freezing tiles; I put both my hands on my face, then tossed it on my hair. I look at the photo hanging on the wall.
