Morning sunlight hit the school gates, but all I could see was her.
Luna was standing just a few feet away, smiling at that guy teacher again. He leaned in close, laughing at something she said, and she touched his arm casually. My chest tightened.
Why him? Why does she laugh like that with him?
I gripped my bag tighter and walked faster, trying not to stare. It felt like every sound around me faded—students chattering, lockers slamming—until all I could hear was her soft laugh echoing in my head.
“Whoa, someone’s in a mood.” Emma’s voice snapped me back to reality. She jogged up beside me, Ava and Emily trailing behind.
“You okay?” Ava asked, smirking. “You look like you want to kill somebody.”
“I’m fine,” I muttered, keeping my head down.
Emily grinned knowingly. “Sure you are. Is this about Alex? Did he text you again? Or… wait.” She gasped dramatically. “Do you actually like someone?”
“No!” I snapped a little too quickly. My friends exchanged looks, grins spreading across their faces.
“Mm-hmm.” Ava raised an eyebrow. “You’re blushing. You’re totally into someone. Who is it?”
I walked faster, ignoring their laughter, my face burning. If only they knew the truth. If only they knew that the person I couldn’t stop thinking about was a woman. A teacher.
Class felt like torture. Every time I looked up, Luna was there—writing on the board, brushing her hair out of her face, smiling at another student. My chest ached, my stomach twisted.
“Mimi” Luna called suddenly, making me jump. “Can you answer the question?”
I scrambled to look at the board, but I couldn’t focus. My voice cracked as I stammered through an answer. A few students snickered.
Luna didn’t laugh. Instead, she tilted her head, her gaze softening. “See me after class.”
My heart pounded the rest of the period.
When the bell rang, I stayed behind, clutching my notebook. Luna looked up from her desk, her expression calm but curious.
“You seem… distracted today,” she said gently. “Is something wrong?”
I forced a laugh, shaking my head. “No, I’m fine. Just tired.”
Her eyes lingered on me for a moment too long, like she didn’t believe me. “Alright. But take care of yourself, okay?”
The warmth in her voice made my heart skip. I mumbled a quick “Thanks” and rushed out of the room before I could embarrass myself further.
By the end of the day, I was exhausted—emotionally and physically. But as I turned the corner near the faculty hallway, there she was again. Luna. Talking to that guy teacher. This time, he leaned close, showing her something on his phone, and she smiled softly.
I froze, anger and jealousy bubbling in my chest.
“Wow,” Emma whispered behind me, startling me. “You’re really staring. You… like Alex, don’t you?”
“No,” I snapped too quickly.
Ava smirked. “You’re acting like a jealous girlfriend.”
Emily laughed. “Exactly. Who knew our Mimi could get this worked up over someone?”
My face went hot. I muttered something and walked off, ignoring their teasing, but their words echoed in my head. Jealous girlfriend.
As I reached the front doors, I glanced back one last time. Luna’s gaze met mine. She wasn’t laughing anymore—she was just watching me, her eyes calm but unreadable.
And then she smiled. Just a small, knowing smile that sent shivers down my spine.
Did she notice my jealousy? Does she… know?
