chapter 2

Summer POV

It's been too long. Seasons are passing with wet lands to dry states. Things have changed from fights to silent.

And yet, I'm still stuck over here with my family, studies and career.

It's been years since my dad raised his hand on me. That's the first and the last too.

I have been proposed to by a Man, Joseph. He saw me at my house as his sister came to my mother for tutoring.

He said I'm his first ever Love and I didn't accept it at first. But later, I have seen how much of the effort he is giving to me and for the first time in the world, I felt cherished and noticed.

Joseph made me the happiest.

Joseph was everything to me.

And it is still Joseph.

Joseph has no job. His mother is deceased. His father has lots of debt. And he is roaming on the streets. Here I am, trying to convince him.

"Josh! Why don't you try the job which my friend recommended?", I asked hoping for a positive answer. Instead....

"Oh ! A friend of yours. Wait! Isn't that a friend of yours a Guy!?", he asked back.

I nodded.

" How do you both get in contact? He isn't your campus friend though!", he continued.

I nodded again holding my tears back.

" I got to know him from my friend's friend. And I have nothing to do with him. He is just like my brother's kind of figure.", I explained.

"Yeah.! ", he nodded sarcastically. And I know, this isn't jealousy. He is questioning my character.

And just like Joseph again kicked the topic of setting a career.

By collecting my courage I raised my voice,"Josh, what kind of job you want to do.?"

"Why do I have to work when you'll earn bread in the future?", he laughed…

And we both laughed.

Josh sometimes caught me off guard.

His phone started to ring. It is his friend. He left bidding me goodbye.

And I kept staring at his back until his figure faded.

I'm all alone again.

No one near me.

My confused thoughts.

My studies.

My unsettled career.

My unknown future.

And the love of Josh.

Everything is in question.

I sat in Frozen state, organizing my thoughts.

I'm the only child to my parents. And of course I want to have a marriage with all my family present. I want my parents to love Joseph as their son. But how can I introduce Joseph to mamma and dad when he dropped his studies somewhere and isn't having a job?

Will they agree to Marry me off to him? No.

Once I finish my studies I'll try to get a job. In that way, i can manage my parents with the marriage of Joseph.

"Dear Summer, is that you?"

I looked to find the person who spoke.

"Sorry , May I know who you are?", I questioned.

"Silas?",he answered.

I was surprised to see him." Silas???"

He smiled at my surprise look.

"Don't call me baby summer. I have a boyfriend now. ", I warned.

"Oh! The person who just left?" Silas said pointing in the direction to where Joseph left.

I nodded.

"I heard you are doing a Masters. What specialization?", he asked me out of the blue.

Not knowing whether I have a future in my subject or not... I replied to him "Geology."

"I met your mom a few days back, and we spoke about your studies. She told me to search for a job for you. I kind of forgot the name of your subject.", he continued

"She showed me a photo of yours, that's how I recognized you now."

Wait my mom?

Why him of all?

Silas and I are childhood classmates. As my mom is a tutor, he is one of her students. So we have known each other since a very young age.

Silas is a person whom I'm jealous of. He has that good looks, good figure, good grades and of all… Well supportive and loving parents.

That's what makes me his enemy.

"I heard you got a job?", I asked curiously to know what he is doing now.

"Yes, I'm working in a Pharma company and saving my savings to build my own company in the future.", he just ranted about his dream.

I nodded with awe.

"Lucky you. You have everything in your hands.", I muttered with jealousy comparing my life with his.

"Lucky?", he sneered.

I look up at him who is towering over me.

" Only I only know how hard it is for me to get there. Luck never gives you career opportunity Summer. You have to try and come out of that comfort zone called luck." he explained.

Looks like he really went under pressure. His face says it all. But he smiled at last, clearly stating his pressure was worth as he is earning good.

Will I be like him for a single day... Where the lift of this pressure I'm carrying will vanish?

I hesitated but spoke "please search for a job for me.", That wasn't a request, but a beg.

He nodded in response and asked out of curiosity, "what does your boyfriend do?"

That's the very last question i expect from anyone.

I replied" he is searching for a job."

Silas nodded.

"Please don't talk about my relationship to anyone. I want to confess to them once Josh and I get settled in our careers." , I requested.

He nodded again.

I know Silas is a calm man with limited words. And he is still the same even after years. Maybe he never changed for anyone. Silly me, I laughed internally. Whom will he even love? He is just a perfect man, he is highly stranded for women if he searches for one.

Silas took me to a café as we met after a long time. I rejected the offer politely yet, he was like a glue to take me out.

He shared lots of dreams of his and I was just mesmerized. If Josh was half passionate about his work as Silas. I'm not comparing my Josh , still that thing disappointed me.

In the ease of the moment , I shared about my studies and wanting to pursue a career in Geology.
