The God of War Chapter 1 Windrest Village

Windrest Village basked in sunlight. Farmers returned from their fields with carts of grain, children darted between houses playing tag, and sparks of everyday magic flickered in the air. A baker used fire magic to heat his oven, a potter shaped clay with earth magic, and a pair of boys dueled with harmless water and wind spells as a crowd laughed.

At the edge of the square, Garrick stood tall among the villagers. His sleeves rolled up, he showed a few men how to channel water streams to irrigate the fields. His voice carried with warmth, his laughter steady. On the grass nearby, a small girl—swung a wooden stick like a sword, puffing her cheeks every time she stumbled.

It was a peaceful day. Too peaceful.

The ground trembled. Distant at first, then stronger—like a heartbeat beneath the earth. A shadow spread across the fields, blotting out the sun. Villagers turned, eyes widening as a massive figure emerged from the forest’s edge.

Demon. It's skin was pitch-black, veins glowing molten red. Jagged horns curled from its skull, and it's grin split unnaturally wide.

*Sneering voice, rumbling like thunder.* ...Pathetic little worms. Let me hear your screams!

The monster’s arm swept sideways. Flames erupted across the village edge, houses collapsing in an instant. Screams pierced the air as families ran. Mages rushed forward, hurling spells in panic.

Man 1

*Shouting* FIREBALL!

Man 2

*Summoning a shield of stone.* Hold the line!

Blasts of fire, stone spikes, and wind blades collided against the demon’s body. Smoke exploded—cheers rose—only for the dust to clear. The creature stood unharmed, chuckling darkly. With a casual flick, it backhanded three men into walls, bones snapping. Its tail lashed out, crushing another mage mid-incantation.

*Laughing Mockingly* IS THIS ALL YOU CAN DO?! HUMANS ARE SO WEAK! HAHAHA!!!

More spells flew. The demon barely flinched, tearing through walls, clawing through soldiers. Every strike was carnage—he moved like a beast enjoying the slaughter. Blood spattered cobblestone, fire devoured rooftops, and the sky darkened with smoke.

Seris froze, clutching her stick tighter. Her small eyes widened as the demon approached, stepping over corpses.

[MC Dad] Garrick Blackthorn [C]

*Grim voice, summoning a torrent of water around his arms* Seris. Behind me. Now!

Streams of water coiled into blades, spiraling around Garrick’s hands. He charged forward, slashing arcs of water that hissed against the demon’s flesh. Steam erupted where water struck molten cracks, making the monster snarl and recoil.

*Roaring* GET OUT OF MY VILLAGE, BEAST!

The demon swung. Garrick leapt back, raising a shield of water just in time. The claws slammed through, shattering the defense and sending him skidding across the dirt. He staggered back to his feet, panting, but raised his weapon again, defiant.

The villagers gasped, crying for their families. Seris tugged at her father’s arm, tears brimming.

*Shaking her head* Papa, don’t! You'll get hurt!

[MC Dad] Garrick Blackthorn [C]

*Breathing heavy, eyes locked on the demon* I have to. Someone must hold it back...

The demon’s grin widened. Slowly, deliberately, it turned its gaze onto Seris. The child’s small frame trembled, and the world seemed to freeze around her.
