Elijah groaned, clutching his head as a sharp pain pulsed through his skull.

His eyes fluttered open, and for a moment, he thought he was still dreaming.

The ceiling above him wasn’t the familiar one of Aurelius’s apartment.

No warm morning light filtered through those tall glass windows...

No faint scent of Aurelius’s cologne lingered in the sheets.

Instead, he found himself staring at the luxurious white ceiling of his apartment—

The one he hadn’t seen in years.

Elijah sat up abruptly, chest heaving.

Fuck… my head...

He muttered, pressing his palms against his temples.

Panic rushed in next, hot and suffocating.

His gaze darted around the room—

The unmade bed, the luxurious decorations, the pile of books stacked carelessly on the floor.

Home.

But not the home he wanted.

Not the one with Aurelius.

He staggered to his feet, nearly tripping over his own legs as he scanned the room.

Every inch of it screamed familiarity, yet it felt foreign...

Like a place he’d already said goodbye to.

His heart hammered painfully.

The weight of realization sank in, pressing tears from his eyes before he could stop them.
