Amira woke up to the of sound alarm clock on her phone. Streching her body, she yawned and look at the analog wall clock.
"7:23, earlier than yesterday." she noted.
She rolled on to her right side, swung her legs off the bed and got down. This way she could avoid hurting her abdomen.
It had been three days since she created the new motto of her life, 'Keep a distance from Kei'. She was confident it would be an easy task.
After brushing her teeth and doing her morning skincare, Amira went to her room while wiping her face. All of a sudden, her phone started ringing.
She looked at it, a video call. As soon as she clicked on the 'answer' button, she heard someone sob. "Babe"
A short haired woman could be seen on the screen, eyes hidden under her messy bangs.
The woman pushed back her jet black hair with a headband and sobbed again. "Babe, are you okay?"
Amira gave her a small smile, moving to a place with better lighting and, angled her phone to show her full face. "Hello to you too, Meiko. Yes, I'm okay."
"I'm sorry for not calling earlier. I had final exams." , Meiko said, wiping tears from her eyes.
"It's okay. I know how busy you are."
"I wish I could go and see you right now."
"But you can't, you're in another country.", she reasoned.
Meiko was her childhood friend. They went to the same middle school and high school. After graduation, Meiko moved abroad as an international student.
"How are you, now?" Meiko asked.
She had answered that question everyday it seemed. She was feeling a lot better than before. The pain had subsided, and her head didn't hurt anymore. In a few days, she would be able to go bungee jumping without worry…that's how good she felt.
"I'm doing great." Amira beamed.
She decided to change the subject. "Aren't graduating soon?", she asked.
Meiko nodded. "Yeah. Next month."
Amira saw her move from her study table to her bedroom. "You must be excited."
"I'm Exhausted.", she groaned, "So glad that it's finally over. Choosing Architecture was a huge mistake. The amount of assignments! My hands are still hurting.", she complained showing her hands to the camera.
"Those dark circles make it pretty obvious."
"I know, right? Anyway, I'm going back next month. We should meet up."
Amira nodded. "Okay. I'll throw you a party to celebrate."
"You don't have to do that. We can just go clubbing and, enjoy ourselves."
She was not fond of clubs but Meiko loved them for some reason. "Eh, we'll see about that once you get back."
"Um...okay. I've to go now. My dad's calling."
"Okay, bye" She waved at the phone and then cut the call.
It was refreshing to talk to her long distance friend after so long.
She stretched her body for a few minutes before walking downstairs. She should probably go jogging tomorrow onwards.
As she walked down the stairs, she saw servants scrambling around the house. Carlos, the butler, was instructing three maids to change the curtains, the cushion covers and the table cloths.
The other four were busy cleaning the cream colored walls and the marble floors. Sounds from the kitchen could be heard too, as the private chef ordered his assistant to hurry up and peel the vegetables.
She slightly parted her lips and furrowed her brows in confusion. Why are they in such a hurry at nine in the morning?
She took a few steps towards Carlos. "Why is it so hectic today, Carlos?" she asked.
He turned his attention to her. "We have an important guest coming over for lunch, miss Amira."
"Who is it?"
Could it be one of her dad's business partner?
"I wasn't informed the name. All I know is that he's someone important. You should ask madam." He answered before turning his attention back to work again.
She walked towards her parent's bedroom. "Mom?" She looked around for Emily. "Mom?"
"I'm here, sweetie." She could hear her voice coming from the living room. She strode to the living room and saw Emily sitting on the couch.
"I heard someone important is coming over for lunch." She asked, standing beside Emily.
"Yeah. Your father invited him." she answered and patted on the spot next to her, signaling her to sit.
Amira sat down and asked, "Who is it?"
She looked at her. "It's the eldest son of Emerson family. Kei Emerson."
She stared open-mouthed at her mother. The person she vowed to avoid three days ago, was coming?! She was not ready to face him! Not yet!
"W-why?"
"To thank him, of course. Show our gratitude." She simply answered.
Amira was still staring at her. This time her expression morphed into a questioning look instead of a shocked one. Thank him? For what?
Her mother noticed it. "Silly me. I forgot to tell you. On the day of the accident...", she paused for a bit before speaking again, "... it was Kei who took you to the hospital."
Amira's eyebrows rose and eyes widened, the skin of her forhead wrinkled. Kei was there?
She suddenly recalled a vague memory. She remembered feeling a man pick her up before she fully lost her consciousness.
So that man was… Kei !
