Le Chandelier was one of those restaurants where even the waiters looked like they had modeling contracts. I spotted him immediately — corner table, black suit, watch gleaming under the light. His steel-gray eyes tracked me from the moment I entered, unreadable but unrelenting.
I slid into the chair opposite him.
Adrian Vale ( MC )
I hope you’re buying, considering you didn’t give me a choice.
Lucien D’Aramond ( ML )
I never give choices I’m not prepared to take away,
he said smoothly.
Adrian Vale ( MC )
Is that how you do business?
I asked, arching a brow.
Lucien D’Aramond ( ML )
“That’s how I do everything.”
The waiter approached, clearly nervous. Lucien ordered for both of us without looking at the menu. Normally, I’d be annoyed — but the way he did it, as if he had already memorized my tastes, made something in my Alpha instincts bristle and… hum.
Adrian Vale ( MC )
So,
I said, leaning back.
Adrian Vale ( MC )
Why me? You don’t exactly strike me as the type to make social calls.
Lucien sipped his wine, gaze never leaving mine.
Lucien D’Aramond ( ML )
In Blood & Vows, Adrian Vale dies in Chapter 36. I find that… unacceptable.
My grip on the glass tightened for just a second. He knew the book.
