The Last Light She Gave Me

The Last Light She Gave Me

"Heartbeat In The Silence"

“The Last Light She Gave Me”

A Girls' Love Story — Vampire x Human

I first saw her under the library’s flickering light, her head tucked in a book, her fingers dancing across the pages like they held secrets only she could understand.

She smelled of sun-warmed paper and honey-sweet tea.

And to someone like me — centuries old, blood-bound, long since numb to the world — she was a pulse. A heartbeat I hadn’t felt in a hundred years.

Her name was Elira.

A human.

A girl who laughed softly and wore socks that never matched.

Who hummed under her breath and read vampire novels with the kind of fascination that made me nervous.

I didn’t want to fall.

But I did.

I, Celeste, was not the monster you read in stories.

I didn’t hide in shadows to hunt.

I walked in them because I didn’t belong anywhere else.

I drank from blood bags.

I lived alone, far from the coven I abandoned long ago.

But Elira?

She was a storm in my silence.

The more I watched her, the more I wanted to be seen.

So one day, I let her see me.

“Do I… know you?” she asked that rainy evening, when I held the door open for her outside the bookstore.

“No,” I whispered. “But I know the way you smile at books like they love you back.”

She laughed. A blush lit her face.

And I knew then — she was dangerous in ways even immortality couldn’t shield me from.

We began meeting often.

Coffee shops, libraries, long walks under moonlight.

I’d bring her obscure books.

She’d bring me laughter.

And slowly, I let her in.

She didn’t know what I was.

Not at first.

But she said once, with a smirk,

“You’re so cold. Like you stepped out of a grave.”

I smiled, bitter and true.

She had no idea.

The truth came out the night I saved her.

A man followed her down an alley.

I didn’t think. I moved.

Too fast. Too strong.

Too unnatural.

She saw me —

Fangs bared, eyes glowing, voice like frost.

And she didn’t scream.

She stepped closer.

“So the books were right,” she whispered.

“You’re real.”

I waited for fear.

But she touched my cheek and said,

“You saved me.”

After that, things changed.

She asked questions.

“Do you feel love?”

“Do you dream?”

“Do you miss being alive?”

I answered everything — except the last one.

Because I didn’t miss being alive...

Until I met her.

We kissed in the graveyard once.

She said it felt poetic.

I said it felt like home.

But time isn’t kind to the ones who stay.

And humans, they slip through your fingers like sand,

no matter how tightly you hold them.

Elira began to fade.

An illness.

One of those names I couldn’t fight with ancient strength.

She wore her smile like armor and her scarf like a promise.

“I’m not afraid,” she said.

“But you… you’ll stay, won’t you?”

“I’ve watched empires fall,” I whispered. “But losing you will be the thing that ends me.”

In her last days, she made me promise two things:

Don’t forget how it felt to be alive with me.

Don’t turn me, even if you want to. Let me go human. Please.

I held her hand until her final breath.

The sun rose outside her window.

It bathed her face in gold.

And for once, I let it touch my skin too —

just to feel what she felt.

It burned.

But it was worth it.

Now, I walk with her scarf wrapped around my wrist.

I read her favorite books every autumn.

I visit her grave every full moon.

And sometimes, I think I hear her laugh in the wind.

She once said,

“Love isn’t about forever. It’s about who you are when it ends.”

She made me someone.

Not just a creature.

Not just a shadow.

She gave me her last light.

And I’ll carry it in my immortal chest until the stars forget how to shine.

The end.

(Or maybe... never, if love still lingers.)
