Chapter 4: Apologize

After listening to Xiao Pai’s vivid description, Tan Mo lightly curled the corner of his lips: “There’s such a strong antagonism right from the first meeting. Did they have any past conflicts?”

“I don’t know,” Xiao Pai replied.

Tan Mo pointed at the screen with his chin: “Why not check the comments?”

“The comments are just way too many, they’re blocking the screen,” Xiao Pai said, but still reached for the mouse. “Should I open them?”

“No need.”

“???

Xiao Pai was confused, thinking this guy was either here to observe or just to see faces.

Yu Haotian also pulled up a chair and sat down, showing interest: “In a one-on-one match, does this young man stand a chance against him?”

“Hard to say,” Xiao Pai replied. “I’ve never even heard his name before, so I’m not sure about his skill level. But judging by his appearance and style, he seems more like an entertainment streamer. His provocative remarks might just be for show, and with Lu Qikai’s reputation, it’s unlikely he’d let a newcomer embarrass him.”

“Entertainment streamer, huh…” Yu Haotian leaned back in his chair. “Well, in that case, forget it.”

Sang Ye entered the custom game room and took one last look at the comments.

[“Fu Gui is a beauty streamer, his skills aren’t in the technical side, so losing wouldn’t be embarrassing.”]

[“Fu Gui is a PK streamer, talking some trash during the match isn’t excessive, right? Kay’s fans can just go back to their own stream and cry.”]

[“Fu Gui is clearly a prize-giving welfare streamer, he’s already indifferent to winning or losing, it doesn’t matter.”]

While other fans were wildly supportive, his own fans were frantically making excuses, giving him a bunch of unrelated titles, as if they were fake fans.

Sang Ye pressed his lips together: “Could it be that I’m a game streamer?”

The comments paused for a second.

[“Hahahahahahahahahahahaha! A clown streamer!”]

Being abandoned by everyone was about the same.

Sang Ye turned off the comment assistant:

It wasn’t surprising that fans didn’t believe it.

Sang Ye had just turned eighteen a month ago, and it was on that day that he started his streaming career.

During the Spring season, he spent the first week watching the games in the stream, then disappeared for a week to watch the games live, leaving him with very little time to actually play. Most of his fans were attracted by his youthful appearance, so their expectations for his gaming skills weren’t high, and they had completely forgotten he was a game streamer.

The game interface loaded up, and the two players arrived at the arena entrance to select their weapons.

In the PUBG 1v1 mode, the match is a best-of-three format, with each round lasting 60 seconds. Players start with 200 health points and cannot use healing items during the round. The match ends as soon as one player dies.

Lu Qikai chose an AK as his main weapon.

Sang Ye selected a Beryl M762 assault rifle.

“Oh, M762, Tan Shen, that’s your signature gun,” Xiao Pai commented honestly. “I wouldn’t dare use this gun in a 1v1 match. The recoil is too strong, it’s hard to control. Even Shine said it makes him want to curse. The gun’s fire rate is fast, so if you handle it well, it’s better than the AK. But if not, you’ll end up just outlining your opponent’s body.”

As he was speaking, the first round began.

The players spawned at opposite ends of the arena.

Both took cover behind a stack of oil barrels.

Sang Ye quickly moved sideways to get a better line of sight, exposing a small part of his body.

Lu Qikai seized the opportunity and aimed down the scope.

However, just as he stood up to aim, a bullet whizzed past his head.

Lu Qikai was startled. His opponent had fired a split second earlier, anticipating his move.

He tried to dodge.

Too late.

Sang Ye fired several shots at the edge of the distant oil barrel. Amid the rapid burst of gunfire, Lu Qikai’s head was blown open.

[You eliminated nsn_kay with a Beryl M762]

The match ended in three seconds.

Staring at the darkened screen, Lu Qikai was stunned.

Both livestream chats had an awkward pause—those shameless taunts hadn’t even had time to scroll across the screen.

The WLG Team 1 training room also fell into silence.

Xiao Pai nervously scratched his soda cup, “It turns out I’m the one who’s the ‘body-outline master’…”

Lu Qikai forced a smile, “I guess I didn’t need to go easy on you. I even chose a gun with weaker firepower.”

Blaming it on the gun.

Sang Ye couldn’t even be bothered to refute him.

As soon as the match ended, the characters returned to the arena entrance, ready for the next round.

This time, Lu Qikai switched to the M762.

Sang Ye, on the other hand, chose an AK.

The second round began.

Lu Qikai didn’t immediately expose himself, playing it safe while looking for the perfect moment to strike.

Sang Ye moved laterally with his gun, quickly weaving through brightly colored obstacles from a first-person view. As he passed a spot, he swiftly aimed down his scope.

At that moment, through the 2x scope, the audience caught sight of a figure crouching behind an oil barrel over 100 meters away.

But before they could get a clear view, Sang Ye had already pulled the trigger, firing a burst in that direction.

Lu Qikai, with his pro-level reflexes, quickly fired back.

But the incoming bullets were fast, fierce, and precise, hitting their mark every time. Dark green splatters of blood erupted on the screen.

Realizing he had made a mistake, Lu Qikai rushed toward a nearby container for cover.

Sang Ye tilted his head slightly, adjusting his aim.

See you next time.

“Bang——!”

[You eliminated nsn_kay with an AKM]

“What the heck!” Xiao Pai exclaimed, holding his face in shock. “He chased down a pro and landed a headshot! Are streamers these days all this terrifying?”

Yu Haotian instinctively sat up straighter. “What’s his name again?”

Tan Mo glanced at the streamer’s ID, letting the name roll off his tongue before saying it casually:

“Song.”

If winning the first round was luck, then this round clearly demonstrated his gunfighting skills.

Sang Ye quickly tapped the space bar, waiting for the results screen, and lazily said, “When I picked my gun, I purposely chose one with less firepower.”

This was a direct counter to Lu Qikai’s earlier excuse.

Lu Qikai hadn’t even managed to hide his awkward expression before his face darkened further.

Looking at the chat, Kay’s fans were equally agitated.

[“Definitely hacking. In the first round, Kay’s head wasn’t even exposed, and the guy still shot him. Ridiculous.”]

[“Hacks are common in these smaller streams. He’s good-looking, so if he also plays the genius kid card, he’ll attract a lot of fans.”]

[“Brothers, help report him. We can’t tolerate cheaters.”]

The match was a best of three, and with two wins, Sang Ye didn’t need the third round—he had already won.

Sang Ye exited the game, not forgetting to ask his “fake fans” in the stream, “So, do you know what kind of streamer I am now?”

His fake fans were on the verge of tears with excitement.

They had followed Sang Ye simply because he was handsome. It was only today they realized he also had serious skills. With a face like a beauty and insane gunplay that had him taking down a pro with a headshot, they were certain they had struck gold!

Lu Qikai forced a smile. “You’re good at the game. Ever thought about going pro? NSN is always on the lookout for new talent.”

“He’s already recruiting before anything’s even official…” Yu Haotian, sensing a potential crisis, couldn’t sit still. He stood up and called out, “I’m going to contact your coach.”

After speaking, he left the room.

Sang Ye leaned back in his chair, tossing his head against the backrest. He raised his hands and tousled his blindingly white hair, then said to Lu Qikai, “Not interested.”

Tan Mo blinked and lowered his gaze.

At that moment, Lu Qikai received a gift and naturally changed the subject, “Thank you, Brother Hai, for the Super Battleship!”

There were two minutes left in the PK match. Although Sang Ye had won the game, the amount of gifts he received was far less than what Lu Qikai had, accounting for only 4% of the popularity score, while Lu Qikai had 96%.

The gap between their fanbases was huge, incomparable.

Lu Qikai regained his pride in terms of popularity and his tone became condescending again: “I remember PKs come with a punishment mechanism, right? I’ll have to think about what to make you do. How about we get some ideas from the chat? Come on, everyone, let’s brainstorm.”

Indeed, there was such a rule—the loser had to accept a punishment.

As for what the punishment would be, it was up to the winner to decide.

Xiao Pai felt uneasy and frowned. “Lu Qikai has a serious vindictive streak. If he gets the chance, he’s going to make life miserable for this newcomer.”

Tan Mo remained silent.

After a while, he smoothed the creases on his pants, uncrossed his long legs, and stood up. “I’m leaving.”

“Huh?”

“If we keep watching, the kid’s going to get bullied.”

Xiao Pai took a detour and shouted at Tan Mo’s retreating figure, “Even if you don’t watch, he’s still going to get bullied!”

In the livestream, however, Sang Ye remained calm. “The time isn’t up yet, why are you in such a rush?”

“Still not giving up?” Lu Qikai laughed. “Do you think you can receive two million in the next minute? Sorry, I don’t mean to make things difficult for you, but my fan base just sent that much. Once again, thanks to all my supporters.”

As soon as he finished speaking, more Super Battleships flooded Lu Qikai’s stream.

Sang Ye’s fans were fuming with frustration, but there was nothing they could do.

With one minute left in the PK match, Sang Ye seemed to sense the right moment. He finally curved his lips into a sly, devilish smile.

This was what he’d been waiting for.

“You can’t beat me.”

Lu Qikai’s heart skipped a beat. “You…”

The next second, a booming sound effect exploded through the livestream.

Sang Ye’s stream was suddenly ablaze, beams of light flooding the entire screen, as countless battleships streaked across in rapid succession.

System notification:

[User myaimissteady sent Super Battleship] x200

Each Super Battleship was worth 10,000, and this wave had just hit the two million mark.

Lu Qikai froze in shock. When he finally snapped back to reality, his face flushed red, then turned pale. He couldn’t utter a single word, his lips trembling as he frantically tapped at the keyboard, desperately trying to send more gifts to himself.

Sang Ye lazily twirled a lock of hair around his finger, watching Lu Qikai’s panicked reaction.

But it wasn’t over yet.

The person sending all the battleships was Sang Ye’s friend. Earlier, when Sang Ye had linked with Lu Qikai, he had picked up his phone. Though it seemed like he was just playing around, he was actually borrowing money from his friend.

He borrowed a total of three million yuan, all to be used on gifts during the PK match — enough to secure his victory.

Sure enough, the system promptly announced:

[User myaimissteady sent Super Battleship] x100

Sang Ye clapped his hands once and sat up straight.

Job done!

Lu Qikai’s face turned ashen. He was about to grit his teeth and make a last-ditch effort when—

[User myaimissteady sent Super Battleship] x200

The entire chat exploded in disbelief!

Sang Ye suddenly leaned forward, frowning.

More?

The countdown ended.

A banner flashed across the middle of the screen:

[Song defeated nsn_kay!]

Lu Qikai slumped in his chair. As arrogant as he had been moments earlier, the sting of his defeat now burned even deeper.

Sang Ye didn’t waste time dwelling on it. He delivered his verdict to Lu Qikai: “You lost.”

Lu Qikai wiped his face, barely holding on to his composure. “A loss is a loss. Say what you want. What’s your demand?”

Sang Ye replied, “Apologize.”

Lu Qikai raised an eyebrow, incredulous. “Apologize?”

“Apologize to Talk,” Sang Ye said calmly, repeating himself. “You owe Talk an apology.”

The stream froze for a couple of seconds before the chat was flooded with comments.

Only now did the viewers realize that the five million was entirely Sang Ye’s doing — he had hired people to bombard the stream with gifts, all to force Lu Qikai into an apology for Talk.

What a power move!

This is undoubtedly the strongest support in the universe!

In the lobby on the first floor of the WLG base, a tall figure cast a long shadow on the ground, standing solitary in the center of the hall.

Tan Mo looked down at his phone, intending to exit the livestream. However, when the young man clearly pronounced “Apologize to Talk,” he stopped all his movements.

Lu Qikai chuckled. “Why should I apologize? We’ve already deleted the Weibo posts. From now on, it’s an issue between the league officials and WLG. Besides, as long as Talk hasn’t done anything wrong, the truth will clear itself…”

“Clear yourself!” Sang Ye’s anger flared up suddenly, tearing through the facade of false politeness. “You posted a vague, ambiguous photo that led to Talk being questioned by the entire internet. Once the seed of suspicion is planted, no matter what Talk does in the future, people will always think he’s involved with drugs. Every time someone searches for Talk’s name, drug-related keywords will pop up. This isn’t an era where the truth will clear itself. Under such widespread rumors, even if he’s done nothing wrong, his career will be tainted. Can you honestly say this isn’t your fault?”

Sang Ye became more and more agitated, causing the barrage of comments in the chat to halve in fear of his intensity.

Lu Qikai opened his mouth, looking as if he wanted to respond, laughing in frustration. He shook his head, seemingly finding the situation incomprehensible, and ultimately didn’t say a word.

Tan Mo watched as the young man’s eyes burned with anger, shining brightly, clearly and cleanly, staring straight at the person outside the screen.

Fleeting memories flickered like electrical currents, a vast and bright sea appeared behind the forest…

At that moment.

The PK connection was cut off, and Sang Ye’s livestream suddenly went black, displaying a system message:

[The broadcaster is suspected of violating regulations and is currently being rectified!]

[“???????”]

The incident happened in an instant, catching everyone off guard and clueless.

Sang Ye sat in front of the computer, and the black screen reflected a confused little white face.

After a while, he moved his mouth: “D*mn.”

Who did he offend?
