Chapter 2
MARLOWE WILLSON/CHIEF
What the hell are you talking about, you crazy girl?
RAYA LENNOX/ FL
You might fool people with your eyes, but your actions? Not so much.
RAYA LENNOX/ FL
*Casual shrug*
Just as Marlowe began to speak, Raya gently interrupted him,
RAYA LENNOX/ FL
By the way, you mentioned human trafficking
RAYA LENNOX/ FL
But how can we be sure? What evidence do we have?
MARLOWE WILLSON/CHIEF
I am the boss here, you can't stop me out of nowhere
RAYA LENNOX/ FL
So do you want me continue about your flirting life boss.
The room grew quiet again — not with awkwardness, but focus. All eyes shifted to Marlowe.
MARLOWE WILLSON/CHIEF
*Nodding slightly, voice steady*
KIERAN BLAKE/ML
We found matching burn marks on both victims — identical symbols, likely used for identification or control.
JULIET RHODES/ 2ND FL
The barely surviving victim had a chip implanted just beneath her skin, something not easily detected.
CLAIR WATSON
*Stepping in, placing her cold coffee on the tabl*
CLAIR WATSON
We ran a deep scan. It’s encrypted, military-grade — not something you find on the black market.
CLAIR WATSON
And there are traces of a substance in her bloodstream… something used to suppress will and memory
A chill passed through the room.
ASHER MADDOX/ 2ND ML
So this isn’t just trafficking. It’s organized, high-level, and dangerous.
RAYA LENNOX/ FL
Then we’re not dealing with street thugs. This is something bigger.
Kiener looked at her coldly and said,
KIERAN BLAKE/ML
So all the previous cases seemed like street thugs to you, Miss Icy Queen?
Raya didn’t like his tone one bit. She turned to him, eyes sharp but voice controlled.
RAYA LENNOX/ FL
Because those are exactly the kind of cases you used to bring in, Mr. Non-Human.
A heavy silence followed. The rest of the room exchanged glances, sensing the heat rising between them again — one that was all too familiar
Kiener took a few slow steps toward her and leaned in slightly, his voice low but cold.
KIERAN BLAKE/ML
Do you even realize how serious this case is, Miss Raya?
KIERAN BLAKE/ML
If you don’t want to be involved — which you clearly said earlier — then just tell the Chief. There’s the door.
He pointed toward the exit with a sharp gesture
KIERAN BLAKE/ML
You’re free to leave. But don’t stay here just to waste time.
Raya held his gaze, her expression unreadable. Then, softly but firmly, she spoke.
RAYA LENNOX/ FL
I wasn’t planning to be part of this case anyway.
She turned to Marlowe, her tone shifting.
Without waiting for a response, she walked away — her footsteps echoing behind her as the room remained still.
Raya stepped out of the room. She walked a few paces down the corridor, her heels echoing faintly in the silence. Then she stopped.
Leaning against the wall, she exhaled shakily and dropped her gaze to the floor.
She began rubbing one hand over the other — fast, restless, almost like trying to scrub something off her skin.
RAYA LENNOX/ FL
I’m so pathetic...
She whispered under her breath.
RAYA LENNOX/ FL
I’m so pathetic...
The words spilled out again, this time barely holding back the crack in her voice.
She squeezed her eyes shut, trying to hold herself together. But the weight on her chest only grew heavier.
RAYA LENNOX/ FL
Be strong, Raya.
She muttered, clenching her fists so tightly her nails dug into her palms.
