I go into my room and take the check out of my bag. Estrella has already seen it, and they will leave here at any moment. I will stay in the house, and with all the money saved, I will be able to pay for my university, since I finished high school. Maybe I'll look for a part-time job for the upkeep of this huge house, but I can live well without worries for a couple of years. With that in mind, I take a shower and go to sleep.
It barely dawns, and I get ready to go to the bank and buy some things I need. I go downstairs, and Estrella is laughing, surrounded by her friends, and I avoid her, walking towards the exit.
"The freeloader is coming down," one of them comments, and I see her laughing.
"Says the one who had to abort because she didn't know who the father was," she looks at me with hatred, and nobody says anything.
"Ignore her, she's angry because a rich and handsome man like Fernando is courting me, and not even a dog approaches her. But see the positive side: Limber is free, although I've heard rumors that his parents want him to marry a woman from society. To be honest, they will never let him marry a woman like you," Estrella says haughtily, and her friends laugh.
"But Fernando will marry a useless and sponging woman like you, because I know how to work without depending on anyone," I reply.
"That's what people who have nothing have to do, like you. No parents, no boyfriend, nothing. Luna, you are an ignorant person who nobody cares about. If you die, nobody will notice," she shouts at me, and I don't stop. Reaching where she is, I slap her, which silences her.
"Estrella, you know perfectly well that you don't even have friends. These are vipers who only enjoy your misfortune. Your father didn't even care about them when he abandoned them, and now I understand why. What he got rid of," I tell her, and she looks at me with hatred. What she says makes me lose control, and I pounce on her, hitting her.
"You should have died with your mother," she shouts at me, and they try to pull me away. I'm on top of Estrella, hitting her without measuring the consequences, until I feel someone pull my hair and pull me away from her, who screams crying non-stop.
"Damn you," her mother shouts at me, helping her daughter. She is so angry that she runs the friends away.
"You are a damn disgrace," she tells me.
"She had earned it for a long time," I reply.
She gets up and walks towards me. I get up, determined not to be intimidated.
"Get out of my house," she says through gritted teeth.
"The ones who are leaving are you. I will look for a lawyer and get you out of here just as you arrived, without anything."
"Poor stupid, with what money?"
"That's none of your business, aunt," I say the last with hatred, and she looks at me angry because I had never spoken to her like that.
I pick up my bag and walk towards the exit. I fix my hair along the way, and I've thought it over well. With that money, I will pay a lawyer. Something can be done. Maybe I can make them go somewhere else or who knows. I wait for the bus, and I get off in front of the bank.
I sit waiting for my turn until it arrives.
"I'm here to cash this check and put it into my account. I want to have all the money available as soon as possible. I put it in savings and, therefore, it doubled. Something like that was explained to me."
"Indeed, miss. But it appears that you have already made a withdrawal of a large amount. In fact, the only amount you have is what you just deposited. To be exact, the only money you have is from this check."
I feel like I've been thrown a bucket of cold water with what they tell me.
"There must be a mistake. I haven't withdrawn anything. Check again, please," I ask, begging it's a misunderstanding. But he denies it, looking at me, which makes me dizzy.
"Miss, indeed your money was withdrawn."
"No, how is that possible? That can't be. When was it? What time?" I ask, and he sighs, typing.
"It was two days ago," he tells me, giving me a sheet where my signature is, and I don't understand anything. I see the time, and at that time, I was at school. I feel like crying, and my hands tremble.
"I didn't even go, at that time, I was at school."
"Miss, I'm sorry, but the person who did it had your information very well."
He gets up, and I dry my tears. He returns with a glass of water and offers it to me.
"I remember now, she came with her mother."
"With my mother?" I ask, and he nods, describing my supposed mother. That's all I need to know who it was.
I leave the cubicle, and I see flashes of colors. I don't hear anything, I just walk by inertia without stopping. My feet get tired; it's been hours walking until I get to the cemetery where my parents are buried.
"They, they ruined me!" I shout at my father's grave, crying.
