Chapter 5: Scars from the Past

Taehyung stared at Jungkook’s phone.

The words on the screen felt like betrayal carved into his skin:

> “Phase 2 initiated. Does the prince suspect yet?”

His pulse pounded. “Answer me.”

Jungkook took a step forward, hands raised. “Tae… please. Let me explain.”

“Explain? That message—was it about me? Are you fu*king playing me like the rest of them?”

“No! God, no. It was supposed to be a trap for Hyunsoo, not you.”

“You could’ve told me.”

“I couldn’t risk the plan. You’re too—”

“What?” Taehyung snapped. “Too emotional? Too fragile? Or maybe too in love to see clearly?”

Jungkook’s silence said everything.

Taehyung stepped back, heart in pieces. “I killed for you, Jungkook. I chose you over my blood. And you still chose secrets.”

Before Jungkook could stop him, Taehyung was gone.

Two days later – The Black Gala

Hosted once a year, the Black Gala was where alliances were made, threats were delivered in designer suits, and killers wore diamonds.

Taehyung arrived late.

Dressed in deep red velvet, hair slicked back, skin glowing like sin. But behind his perfect smile? Rage. Confusion. Pain.

He ignored everyone until a voice—his voice—froze him.

“Taehyung.”

Taehyung turned slowly.

There he was.

Min Jae.

His ex.

The man who taught him love could be a weapon—and heartbreak, a lesson.

“I didn’t expect to see you here,” Jae said, sipping champagne. “But you look... lethal.”

Taehyung forced a smile. “Jae.”

Min Jae leaned in. “Still as beautiful as the night you left me bleeding.”

Taehyung’s jaw clenched.

“I didn’t come to reminisce.”

“No?” Jae smirked. “Then why are your eyes screaming?”

Just then, Jungkook entered the ballroom—black suit, sharp jaw, predator gaze. And when he spotted Taehyung talking to Jae, he froze.

Their eyes locked.

Taehyung’s expression was unreadable.

And Jungkook’s blood boiled.

He stalked over, gripping Taehyung’s arm. “Can we talk?”

“Not now,” Taehyung said coldly.

Jungkook’s gaze flicked to Jae. “Who’s this?”

Jae smiled slowly. “I’m Min Jae. Taehyung’s ex. You must be the replacement.”

Jungkook’s jaw tensed. “No. I’m the upgrade.”

Taehyung stepped between them, voice sharp. “Stop it. Both of you.”

But it was too late.

Jae placed a hand on Taehyung’s waist.

Jungkook snapped.

He grabbed Jae by the collar and slammed him against the marble pillar. “Touch him again, and I’ll rip your f***ing fingers off.”

Security gasped, people whispered—but Taehyung stood still, eyes dark with emotion.

“Let him go, Jungkook,” he said coldly. “Or I swear I’ll walk out with him instead.”

That broke something in Jungkook.

He let go, stepped back, eyes haunted.

“You wouldn’t.”

“I might.”

And then—Taehyung turned and walked away with Jae.

Later – Rooftop of the Gala

The wind was cold. Champagne was forgotten.

Taehyung leaned on the edge of the building, city lights glowing below.

Min Jae stood beside him, quiet for once.

“I never stopped missing you,” Jae said softly. “Even after everything.”

“You broke me.”

“I only broke what was fake. But he—Jungkook—he’s not right for you.”

“Why? Because he’s not you?”

“No.” Jae’s eyes flashed. “Because he’s hiding something worse than I ever did.”

Taehyung turned sharply. “What do you mean?”

Jae pulled out a phone and handed it over.

“See for yourself.”

Taehyung hesitated.

But curiosity won.

The screen lit up with a video—grainy surveillance footage.

Jungkook. In a dark alley.

Talking to Hyunsoo.

Laughing.

Shaking hands.

Taehyung’s heart stopped.

“What is this…?”

“It’s dated before you two ever met. They knew each other. Jungkook didn’t just fall for you, Tae. He was sent.”

Taehyung dropped the phone, breathing shallow.

It felt like drowning.

Back inside – Jungkook’s POV

Jungkook searched the crowd like a wolf on the hunt.

He found them by the bar—Taehyung staring at the floor, Jae whispering in his ear.

He walked up, grabbed Taehyung’s wrist.

“Enough.”

Taehyung turned, face pale. “Is it true?”

“What?”

“You knew Hyunsoo. Before me. You worked with him.”

Jungkook’s face went blank.

Taehyung shoved him. “TELL ME THE F***ING TRUTH.”

“Yes,” Jungkook finally said. “But it’s not what you think.”

“Then what is it? Were you planning to use me from the beginning? Was every kiss a lie?!”

“No!” Jungkook stepped closer. “It started as a mission. But it became real. You became everything.”

Taehyung laughed bitterly, tears in his eyes. “And what if Jae hadn’t shown me? Would you ever tell me?”

“I was going to—”

“Bullshit.”

Then—another twist.

Gunfire.

People screamed.

Hyunsoo’s men had infiltrated the Gala.

Chaos exploded.

Jungkook pushed Taehyung down behind a table just as bullets shattered the bar.

Min Jae fired back, protecting Taehyung too.

It was madness.

Bodies fell. Screams rang out. And in the center of it all—Jungkook, Taehyung, and Min Jae.

Side by side. Enemies. Lovers. Liars.

Minutes later – After the gunfire

Jungkook was bleeding again.

Shot in the shoulder.

Min Jae had a cut above his eye.

Taehyung stood in the middle of the destroyed ballroom, heart broken, blood on his skin, torn between two men.

Jae whispered, “Come with me. I’ll keep you safe.”

Jungkook held his side, panting. “Don’t you dare walk away from me.”

Taehyung looked at them both.

His past.

His pain.

His poison.

And he whispered:

“I need time.”

Then he walked away—leaving both of them behind.
