Episode 5

As soon as the inept police officers left and Zoila notified her of the eviction, Angelica left the boarding house as quickly as possible towards her second job. She was running late, but not like this morning, but late in the afternoon. So she said to herself: "whatever God wants."

She entered the restaurant where she works as a kitchen assistant and it is the job where she has been the longest, but where she receives the most abuse. She arrives at the locker room and, when opening her locker, it has no lock.

"What the hell happened here?" Angelica exclaims loudly. "Damn rats, don't tell me they stole from me here too?"

"Looking for this?" A voice was heard behind her and Angelica already knew it was her boss's, the pervert.

He was standing at the door, with everything that was inside Angelica's locker in a box.

"Don Calixto, and why do you have my things in that box?" Angelica already imagined it, but she was playing dumb.

"Because you, Mrs. Sosa, no longer work in this prestigious restaurant. I had warned you that another arrival late and you: kick to the curb." With that said, the man abruptly handed her the box and pointed to the door for her to leave.

She left that place under the gaze of pity and disbelief of her colleagues and some customers.

Angelica walked along the sidewalk with her box in her hands and thinking about what will become of her life now that she is without her oldest job. She must get a room by the end of the month and it was already the twentieth, and in addition, she must start from scratch to get her money to pay for the semester at the Complutense. It's already June, and classes start in August.

She arrived at a park and sat on one of the benches staring into space while thinking.

"I'm more jinxed than a body button. It's not like I killed a priest!"

Then she remembers when she left home before turning fifteen, where a drunken stepfather beat her mother almost daily and her along the way for defending her. But her foolish mother, the day he didn't give her her share of beatings, said that if he didn't hit her it was because he had another woman.

Tired of those scenes, she went to live with the first idiot who crossed her path. Paco was the neighborhood thug, ten years older than her and he made her fall in love so she would be his personal servant and also raise Belen, a five-year-old brat more evil than the devil. The little brat was so annoying that not even her own mother could stand her and that is why she stuck her with the dad.

Angelica felt in glory, because there were no physical or verbal abuses there, but what she didn't know is that there are other types of abuses.

Forced to work by her husband, she had to finish her studies at night and that barely, because there were days that Paco manipulated her so that she would not go to classes. Even so, she finished her high school and the rest of her life was working and taking care of an ungrateful girl who is not even her daughter.

Life passed her by in the blink of an eye, and although at first she wanted to be a mother, the day she dared to propose it to Paco, he came out with the fact that he had had a vasectomy, because he did not want to be burdened with more children. Angelica resigned herself to having a life like that, working, helping her husband pay for the house and taking care of a daughter who was not hers.

The hours meditating in the park passed and Angelica was hungry. So she went to the fast food stand "Las Pollitas" where her friends, the Cruz sisters: Mary and Lissy, worked, to eat something and go to her night job.

"What do you mean, friend, that they fired you from work? Damn Calixto, since he could never take you to bed, he's taking revenge," her friend Mary told her. "And to top it all off, that melancholy Zoila pretends to be offended and kicks you out of her filthy boardinghouse!"

"And what do you mean Belen robbed you? That little girl is a pain in the ass..." Lissy was quickly interrupted by her boss Sandra.

"Lissy, foul-mouthed! When are you going to learn to be a girl with an appropriate vocabulary?" Sandra scolds her.

"Sorry, misia Sandra. It's just that I'm outraged by everything that happens to Angelica. When will the poor thing be able to live a peaceful life, like a queen, without problems, without hardships, as she deserves?" They all nodded looking sadly at poor Angelica.

"Yes, it's just that she's become old and alone. Not even the cat that she had settled in with her. That kitty Botero left with Paco and Belen," Mary reminded Angelica of the ingrate cat.

But Angelica only thought that old and all, she popped a collagen more good than getting up late.

After eating, she said goodbye to her friends and went to her job at the Darko Luxure emporium.

Miraculously she arrived fifteen minutes earlier than her entry time; it was also a miracle that the fingerprint reader emitted its pass sound without having to battle with it. But it was not a miracle to come face to face with the old woman Ramona.

"Sosa, give me your badge." Ramona stretched out her hand asking for her badge and didn't even let her enter the employees' locker room.

"Good evening, dona Ramona. And what do you want my badge for, are you going to renew it?" she asks with feigned innocence, but the truth is that she suspects that they told her about her romp this morning.

"Don't play dumb, Sosa, you know what I'm talking about. I gave you an opportunity not to fire you." Yes, Ramona knows. What does it matter to lie?

"Are you saying that because of the romp? Let me explain..." The flustered supervisor didn't even let her speak.

"Sarah, the presidency secretary, told me." Angelica thought: "damn gossip. I wish the romp had been for her and they gave it to me."

"Envious!" Angelica spoke aloud what she thought.

"What? Why would Miss Sarah be envious? Because she informed me that you didn't clean the presidency office? She stated that the carpet was stained and the desk dirty, that indicates that you didn't go in there to clean, that's why you're fired!" Ramona said this last part raising her voice.

"Uff, what a relief, I thought they were firing me for something else." This statement disconcerted Ramona; she didn't understand what Angelica meant.

Angelica handed over her badge and left with her head held high and thanking the Iberian gods that they didn't fire her for being lustful and a fornicator. Because it is true, she with the work she gave herself with the boss, did not clean the office and on the contrary left it dirtier than it was. So her dismissal was justified.

Today has been a Wednesday day; if it weren't for the morning romp and the class with maestra Estelita, it would be a lost day.
