Sixteen days.
That’s all that’s left until Eli turns nineteen. The day he becomes mine.
He doesn’t know it yet, but he feels it. I see it in the way his eyes drift toward where I sit. The way he slows down in the hallway, like he’s waiting for me to catch up. He’s trying to make me chase him.
Alec reaches under his bed and pulls out a wrapped box. The wrapping paper is matte black with a red satin ribbon.

I got him something. Not something from a store, that would be fake. I made this myself. It's personal. Intimate. Something he'll understand.

*He holds the box to his chest, breathing in slowly like it has a scent*

Eli's Pov
Eli’s bedroom. Same night. Eli is lying on his stomach, sketchbook open. Pencil in hand, headphones in. The room is covered in posters of indie bands and tiny lights strung across the wall. He pauses, looks toward the window.
Eli Whitter
I don’t know why I keep thinking someone’s watching me lately.
It’s probably just stress or maybe I’ve been writing too much dark poetry. *chuckles*
His phone buzzes. Unknown number. A message
"The stars in your lyrics today were beautiful. You should write more about shadows."

*he stares at the message. The color drains slightly from his face. He locks the phone, sets it aside and Laughs nervously*

Okay… definitely creepy. Probably just someone from school messing with me.
Eli Whitter
*He glances back at the window. Pauses. Then gets up and locks it*
Outside Eli’s house. Across the street, behind a tree, Alec stands with a hood up, phone in hand. He watches Eli turn off the lights and pull the blinds. He doesn’t move.
