Chapter One: Lipstick, Lies, and Lattes
If Jeon Jungkook had a dollar for every time his older sister got him into a mess, he’d be a millionaire by now. A broke millionaire, somehow, because she’d find a way to borrow all his dollars too.
Jeon Jieun
You look like me anyway, and the café manager never pays attention!
Jungkook adjusted his chest pads uncomfortably and stared at his reflection in the café’s employee bathroom. A long brown wig framed his face, and his sister’s makeup was a bit too heavy on the blush. He looked... like someone’s confused K-drama character in mid-transition.
Jeon Jungkook
This is a new low
From behind the door, his sister’s voice chirped:
Jeon Jieun
You owe me! Remember when I bailed you out during your little scooter accident?
Jeon Jieun
You dented a police car!
Jeon Jungkook
That was five years ago!
Jeon Jieun
And I still have emotional trauma.
Jeon Jieun
Now put on some lip gloss and get out there.
Groaning, Jungkook smacked on a strawberry-flavored gloss, nearly gagging on the synthetic fruitiness. His sneakers had been swapped for ankle boots — with a heel. Every step was a balancing act between grace and a face plant.
He took a deep breath and stepped out into the café.
It was a cute little place, popular with university students and hopeless romantics. It had pastel walls, hanging plants, and a chalkboard menu that said: “Today’s Special – Love at First Sip.”
Jungkook rolled his eyes so hard he nearly lost a contact lens.
The place was quiet — just a few girls giggling in a corner booth, and a guy with glasses writing furiously into a notebook. Jungkook relaxed slightly and started wiping down tables, avoiding his reflection in every shiny surface.
Then the bell above the door chimed.
He didn’t look up at first. Just another customer. No big deal.
Until he felt the silence.
The giggling stopped. Even the guy with the notebook paused mid-sentence.
Jungkook looked up — and there he was.
Kim Taehyung. CEO of Taehyung Enterprises. His boss. His literal boss.
Why was he in this café? Why today? Why now, when Jungkook looked like a backup dancer in a girl group comeback?
Jeon Jungkook
Will he recognize me? ( whispered to himself ) gosh this will be so embarrassing
Taehyung was devastatingly handsome in an effortless way. His dark hair curled slightly at the ends, his suit looked like it belonged on a Vogue cover, and his presence filled the room like he owned it — which, honestly, he probably did
He turned around so fast he nearly slipped, muttered something like “Espresso machine! Broken!” and hid behind the counter.
Taehyung approached slowly, like a lion stalking confused prey.
Kim Taehyung
Are you new here?
Jungkook cleared his throat, scrambling for a fake voice.
Jungkook
Uh, yes! Just... just helping out for the day!
Kim Taehyung
You have a very familiar face
Abort mission. Evacuate café. Fake your own death if necessary
Jungkook
People say I look like my brother
Jungkook Cursing his life decisions
Kim Taehyung
Well, I’d love a cappuccino. And... what’s your name?
Jungkook might’ve passed out for half a second.
As he fumbled through the coffee machine settings
Jeon Jungkook
(how does steam work again?!)
He heard Taehyung sigh behind him.
Kim Taehyung
You know, Jieun
Kim Taehyung
you seem different. Refreshing. Most girls I meet don’t look like they’re trying to run away mid-conversation.
Jeon Jungkook
( Never saw boss talking to someone this much)
Jeon Jungkook
( what's wrong with him?)
Jungkook
Oh! Haha! Nerves. I’m... not used to attractive men talking to me.
Jeon Jungkook
(Why did I say that. Why did I say that out loud.????)
Kim Taehyung
That’s a shame. You’ll have to get used to it.
Jungkook almost poured hot milk on his own hand.
Taehyung sat by the window, sipping his cappuccino and throwing glances Jungkook’s way every few minutes. He stayed for an hour.
An hour of near panic attacks, dropped trays, and one small incident involving whipped cream and a nose.
He was almost free. Just five more minutes, and Taehyung would leave and never recognize him in the office again. Maybe. Hopefully.
But fate, as always, had other plans
The door burst open with unnecessary drama, and a tall, lanky guy stormed in, wild-eyed and fuming.
Gerik
There you are, you lying cheat!
Gerik
You disappeared for two days, blocked my number, and now you’re here flirting with another guy?
Jungkook
I... I think you have the wrong—
Gerik
Don’t even start! You said you loved me!
Jungkook
Sorry but I really don't know you
The man was about to hit Jungkook but Taehyung grabbed his hand from behind
Kim Taehyung
Excuse me. Jieun is my girlfriend.
Gerik
YOU LEFT ME FOR HIM, DIDN'T YOU?
Taehyung placed a protective arm around Jungkook’s shoulders.
Jungkook
I really don't know you Mister
Jungkook
I think you've got the wrong person
Kim Taehyung
We’ve been dating for months. So unless you’re hallucinating entire relationships, I suggest you leave.
The guy stammered, looked between the two of them, then slowly backed away, mumbling something about "mistaken identity" and "bad lighting." He fled
Jungkook exhaled for the first time in a full minute.
Kim Taehyung
Didn’t like the way he was yelling at you
Taehyung replied, brushing imaginary dust off his sleeve.
Kim Taehyung
Besides, Have I told you. You’re interesting?
Jeon Jungkook
( Boss find me interesting?)
Jeon Jungkook
(What the hell???)
And just like that, he smiled, handed Jungkook his card, and left
Jeon Jungkook
( am I hallucinating from wig glue?)
