“What have you done, Arjun?” Veer asked, his voice filled with frustration. “You just pushed her away. Do you even realize the depth of your actions?”
“She shouldn’t have come here,” he muttered darkly, running a hand through his hair in agitation. “I don’t want—”
“You don’t want someone to care? You’re scared of letting anyone in?” Veer confrontedhim, the heat of friendship and frustration boiling close to the surface. “Every time someone tries, you turn them away. Do you understand how deeply that will hurt you in the end?”
“Pain is inevitable, Veer. It’s a part of life.” Arjun’s voice was a low rumble that sent shivers through the air, making those nearby shift uncomfortably.
“Then don’t inflict it on others!” Veer snapped back. “You’re dragging Meera down a dark road that she’s not equipped to handle!”
Arjun turned sharply, his eyes narrowing. “You think she’s better off without me? She’s too kind—too innocent. Innocence gets people killed in this world.”
“No, Arjun. The lack of it kills people like you,” Veer replied, venom lacing his tone. “You’re the one who’s lost in darkness, thinking it makes you stronger. Being strong means knowing when to let others close. You’re afraid of love because you don’t want to lose more.”
“Love? Is that what this is?” Arjun scoffed, his voice incredulous. “Love is weakness, and weakness is something I cannot afford.”
“But you need it!” Veer insisted. “Without connections, you’re nothing but a shell rotting in silence. You have the chance to change this, but you keep pushing her away—”
“Enough!” Arjun hissed, his facade breaking just a little. Veer had struck a nerve; anger flared in him, an emotion he couldn’t easily rein in. “Do you think I enjoy this? Do you think I want to hurt her?”
Sanjana, lingering nearby, leaned in with a sultry whisper, “Sometimes, the thrill comes with its own pain, doesn’t it, Arjun?” She knew how to play on his emotions, stoking the fires of his inner chaos. “Together, we could create something dangerous and thrilling. It’s clear you thrive on it.”
“Stay out of this!” he shot back at her, controlling his temper with grit. “I won’t let you drag Meera into whatever twisted fantasy you have in mind. She’s not a game.”
Sanjana raised an eyebrow, seemingly unimpressed. “But she’s precisely what you need. Someone to break the monotony of your dark existence. Think about it, Arjun. The pleasure of molding her innocence into something wild… it would be intoxicating.”
“Don’t talk about her as if she’s a toy to be played with,” Veer interjected, fury boiling over. “If you keep this up, you’ll ruin her life. If you can’t see the light in her, then you’ll never know what true power is.”
Arjun’s expression shifted, a momentary flicker of uncertainty betrayed his calm facade. “I can’t protect her! I can’t protect anyone!”
“Then stop trying to be the monster in your own story,” Veer urged, grabbing Arjun’s arm, forcing him to face the truth. “Accept that you’re haunted by your past, but acknowledge that not everyone is an enemy. Some of us genuinely care.”
The chaos in Arjun's mind was a whirlwind as Veer’s words began to echo louder. Could he dare let someone—especially Meera—stand alongside him in this tumultuous world? He squeezed his eyes shut, frustration boiling over.
“Promise me,” Veer finally pleaded, “that you won’t chase Meera away if she dares to return. The girl has already seen too much darkness; don’t make her see more.”
“I don’t know if I can,” Arjun whispered, vulnerability cracking through his hardened exterior...
