(Garvita and Vikram are supposed to meet in a cafe near her police station, Vikram arrives a little before the decided time)

He is sitting in a rigid posture, just like the disciplined soldier he is.

After 10 minutes, Garvita walks inside, in her police uniform. Vikram spots her instantly and walks over to her.

Vikram Rana

Hi, Lieutenant Commander, Vikram Rana *he forwards his hand for a handshake*

Garvita Chaudhary

ACP Garvita Chaudhary *she shakes his hand*

They both look into each other's eyes for a while and then settle down at the table.

For the next few minutes, there is awkward silence, both of them looking here and there, sitting disciplined and rigid.

Vikram Rana

*clears his throat* We should talk i guess

Garvita Chaudhary

Yea, I mean that's why we are here, so tell me about yourself?

Vikram Rana

Let's start with the basics, something you might already know, I am a lieutenant commander in Navy.I am 32 years old and I am not sure what to add here to be honest

I am an ACP, well it's pretty obvious (she says this while gesturing to her uniform)

I am 30 years old and let's get straight to the point I guess, we are here for a marriage proposal so we might as well know about what we want in a Marriage.

Vikram relaxes at her words, he prefers straightforwardness as well.

I will be honest with you, I will always be a soldier first, and a husband later on, I would be away for long periods sometimes without communication

I will miss birthdays, anniversaries and what not, I might not even be able to hold you through any problems which might occur, I want someone who can understand that, someone who can stand by my side while I serve my nation.

Garvita stays silent, assessing his words, registering them to her mind.

Vikram Rana

See, I have been through these first talks before and through the rejections afterwards because no matter how the world has progressed, they still want women to serve hot and fresh meals even while working and I won't be able to do that.

I will be working uncertain hours, sometimes days at once, holidays are rare occurrences for me too, You will be away and even when you come back I won't be standing at the door to welcome you, waiting with hot dinner served. I am serving duty, I won't be able to be the "traditional wife" or the "traditional bahu" and that's the fact.

They both stay silent for a while, thinking over each other's words.

I do have to tell you something even before you consider this proposal

My mother, she is conservative, and while I promise, if we say yes that is, that I won't let her demean you or our choices as a couple, but when I am not her, in the sense of deployment you will have to deal with her on your own.

Will we be staying with your parents?

Vikram Rana

No. I myself do not live with them, pretty much not expected of an Indian son. But I want my life to be mine.

For the next few hours, they both practically discuss their marriage aspects.

Somewhere their strategic training taking over their talks, the emotional aspect getting lost and forgotten.

They both part ways at words of getting back to each other with a reply before they tell their families.
