Chapter 5: No Return List
Location: Ludhiana, Punjab
Ludhiana. City of factories. Of noise, smog, and restless roads.
But somewhere in the middle of all this, there was silence. Not peace — the kind of silence that comes before a gunshot.
Inside a broken godown near Jamalpur, rats were running. On the wall, with red spray paint, three words were written:
No Return List
It wasn’t just a name.
It was a rule.
Nobody who was added to that list ever came back. Not to their home. Not to the city. Not to life.
This list was owned by a gang called "Narak Da Parcha" — The Hell Note. Nobody knew who started it. Some said it was run by three brothers. Others said it was just one man who wore a black cloth over his face, even during day.
But everyone knew what happened if your name was written.
This week, three names were added:
Inspector Harwinder Singh
Maninder Bakra (a local loan shark)
Shivani Dhillon (a journalist who asked too many questions)
The godown had no CCTV. No fingerprints. No smell of anything — except rust and petrol.
Police had stopped coming here.
Because the last time they came… five men entered. Only two walked out. Both were silent forever. One had to be taken to Amritsar Mental Hospital. He now draws eyes on every wall. Eyes with no pupils.
People in Ludhiana say:
> "List vich naa aayi, taan theek aa. List ch naam aaya, taan game over."
(If your name is not in the list, you’re fine. If it is — game over.)
The only man who ever escaped the No Return List was Gurpreet "Guri" Khanna, a smuggler who ran phones through train toilets.
He ran to Nepal. Changed his name. Got plastic surgery.
Still, one day — he was found hanging from a railway bridge in Kolkata. Tongue out. Eyes gone.
No note. Just a printed paper in his pocket:
“Name cut from list.”
The list is not online. It’s not written in a book. It’s passed by whispers. In the backrooms of clubs. Inside the back pockets of torn jeans. On broken mobile screens.
You don’t know you’re on it…
Until someone lights a cigarette next to your door at midnight.
And then?
Boom. No second chance. No talk. No police. No god.
In Chandigarh, ACP Bhullar got the news. Another list. Another gang. Another city.
He looked out his window again.
Punjab was burning from inside.
And nobody was ready to speak.
