That Sender
The Meeting That Was Meant to Happen
Three days.
That was all the time Sana had before November 3rd—before whatever was written in the journal was supposed to happen.
She barely slept that night. Every time she closed her eyes, she saw flashes of memories that didn’t feel like hers. Running through a dimly lit street. The feeling of someone’s hand slipping away from hers. A voice calling her name—Jake’s voice.
She woke up gasping each time.
By the time morning came, she had already made up her mind. She had to meet Jake.
November 2nd – The Day Before
They decided to meet at a small coffee shop in the city. A neutral place. Somewhere public, just in case this entire situation turned out to be something more dangerous than mysterious.
Sana arrived first. She picked a table by the window, her fingers tapping anxiously on her phone. She had no idea what she was going to say when she saw him in person. Hey, we might have known each other in another life? Hey, you might be part of my past, but I don’t remember why?
Nothing made sense.
Then the door opened, and her breath hitched.
Jake.
He looked exactly like he did in the video call, but seeing him in person was… different. He had this presence, like someone she had always known but had somehow forgotten. Their eyes met across the room, and for a moment, the world outside the coffee shop faded.
Then, slowly, Jake walked over and sat across from her.
Neither of them spoke at first. It was as if they were both afraid that if they did, the strange reality they had stepped into would finally become real.
Sana was the first to break the silence.
"So… we finally meet."
Jake let out a soft chuckle, but there was tension in his shoulders. "Yeah. It took a weird path to get here, though."
Sana nodded, studying him. The longer she looked, the more something inside her ached. A pull she didn’t understand.
She hesitated before speaking again. "Jake… do you feel it too? Like we’ve met before?"
Jake leaned forward slightly, his expression serious. "Sana, I don’t just feel it. I know it."
Her breath caught. "What do you mean?"
He pulled the journal out of his bag and slid it across the table to her. "Because it’s not just about you. My name is in here too."
Sana’s hands trembled as she opened the book, flipping through the pages until she saw it.
Jake Carter.
Written in the same elegant handwriting.
She exhaled shakily. "This isn’t possible."
Jake swallowed hard. "It gets worse."
He flipped to another page and pointed.
Her eyes followed his finger, and what she read made her stomach drop.
November 3rd: The day it happens again. The day I lose him. The day I fail to stop it.
Her hands went cold.
"Jake… what does this mean?"
His jaw tightened. "I don’t know. But whatever it is, it happens tomorrow."
November 3rd – The Unfolding Mystery
Sana didn’t want to be alone that day. Neither did Jake. They spent the whole morning together, trying to figure out what they were supposed to stop.
"Maybe it means we shouldn’t meet today," Sana suggested.
Jake shook his head. "Or maybe we have to. What if this already happened before? What if not meeting is what leads to the bad thing?"
That thought made her stomach twist.
They decided to stay together, hoping that whatever was supposed to happen wouldn’t—if they could just change something.
Hours passed. Nothing happened.
Then, as evening fell, Sana’s phone buzzed with a message from an unknown number.
Not Jake’s.
"It’s happening again."
Her blood turned to ice.
She quickly showed Jake the message. His face went pale.
"We need to go," he said immediately.
"Go where?"
But before he could answer, something strange happened.
A memory—one that wasn’t hers—flashed in her mind.
She saw herself standing on a bridge. The city lights glowing around her. The sound of rushing water below. And Jake—Jake reaching for her.
Then a feeling.
A falling sensation.
Her vision snapped back to reality. She gasped, gripping the table.
"Sana?!" Jake’s voice was sharp with concern.
She looked at him, eyes wide. "I think I know what’s going to happen."
"Tell me."
She swallowed hard. "I think someone… falls."
Silence.
Then Jake stood up so fast his chair nearly tipped over. "We need to get to the bridge."
Sana’s pulse raced. "What if it’s not real?"
Jake met her gaze, his voice unwavering. "What if it is?"
The Bridge – The Moment of Truth
They reached the bridge just as the city lights shimmered against the dark sky. The air was cold, and the wind howled past them. Sana’s heart pounded in her chest.
Then they saw him.
A man standing near the edge, his back to them.
Sana’s breath caught. "Is that…?"
Jake didn’t hesitate. He ran toward the figure. "Hey! Stop!"
The man turned.
And that’s when Sana realized—she knew his face.
He was in her dreams.
And suddenly, it all made sense.
Memories crashed into her like a tidal wave.
This had happened before.
She and Jake had been here.
And the man—he had fallen.
Jake had tried to save him before. But he had failed.
And this time…
Sana wouldn’t let it happen again.
She ran forward, shouting, "WAIT!"
The man’s eyes widened. He looked at her, as if recognizing her too.
"You’re not supposed to be here," he whispered.
"Neither are you," Sana shot back.
For a second, everything was frozen in time.
Then Jake lunged forward—just as the man’s foot slipped.
Sana screamed, but Jake was faster this time.
His hand grabbed the man’s arm.
The future was changing.
The Ending That Wasn't Written
The man was safe. He collapsed onto the bridge, shaking, but alive.
Sana and Jake looked at each other, breathless.
And for the first time, the unknown future felt different.
Sana turned to Jake, realization dawning. "We changed it."
Jake let out a shaky breath. "Yeah… I think we did."
And as they stood there, something inside Sana whispered:
This was only the beginning.
What was written in the original version of events? Who is the man they saved? And what else in their past has yet to be uncovered?
