Chapter 4 The Web of Deceit

I tried to push the doubts out of my mind, focusing on the reassurances Alex had given me. But as the day wore on, I found myself becoming increasingly anxious.

I couldn't shake the feeling that Alex was hiding something from me, and the more I thought about it, the more I realized that I didn't really know him at all.

We had met at a charity event a year ago, and from the moment we started talking, I had been swept off my feet. He was charming, handsome, and successful, and I had been blinded by my attraction to him.

But now, as I looked back on our relationship, I realized that I had ignored all the warning signs. Alex had always been secretive about his past, and I had brushed it off as him being private.

But what if it was more than that? What if he was hiding something from me?

I decided to do some digging, starting with Alex's phone records. I knew it was a risk, but I had to know the truth.

As I scrolled through his calls and texts, I noticed something strange. There were several numbers that kept popping up, numbers that Alex had never mentioned to me before.

I decided to investigate further, doing some research on the numbers. What I found shocked me.

One of the numbers belonged to a woman named Sarah, a woman who claimed to be Alex's ex-girlfriend. According to Sarah, Alex had been abusive and controlling during their relationship, and she had finally managed to escape him.

I felt like I had been punched in the gut. Could it be true? Was Alex capable of such things?

I didn't know what to believe, but I knew I had to confront Alex about it. I decided to wait until he got home, my heart racing with anticipation.

As the hours ticked by, I found myself becoming more and more agitated. I couldn't shake the feeling that Alex was hiding something from me, and I was determined to get to the truth.

Finally, I heard the door open, and Alex walked in, a smile on his face.

"Hey, how was your day?" he asked, kissing me on the cheek.

I forced a smile onto my face, trying to play it cool.

"It was fine," I said. "But we need to talk."

Alex's expression changed, a look of concern crossing his face.

"What's wrong?" he asked, taking my hand.

I took a deep breath, steeling myself for what was to come.

"I know about Sarah," I said, my voice shaking. "I know about your past."

Alex's expression changed, a look of shock and then anger crossing his face.

"How did you find out?" he demanded, his voice low and menacing.

I stood my ground, refusing to back down.

"I did some research," I said. "I know all about your ex-girlfriend and the way you treated her."

Alex's face turned red with rage, and for a moment, I thought he was going to hit me.

But then, he seemed to compose himself, a cold calculating look crossing his face.

"You don't know anything," he said, his voice dripping with venom. "You don't know what really happened."

I felt a chill run down my spine as I realized that I was in grave danger. Alex was not the man I thought he was, and I had to get out of there before it was too late.
